Extra Diplomacy Text

Hello everyone.

I put up a simple mod on the ModBuddy called "Extra Diplomacy Text". It simply adds more responses that the game randomly picks when you are engaged with diplomacy with a leader. Almost every tag that ended with a number "TXT_KEY_WANTS_PEACE_1" for example got extended, in some cases being extended about ten times!

You will also notice some miscellaneous changes such as the Periodic World Rankings - I simply modified the text to be more serious and less immersion breaking. ("People Who Like Shiny Things the Most" -> "The World's Richest Nations"). Also the AI never announces its concern that you are trying to win the game the same way they are - they instead feel annoyed that your interests conflict with each other. It's more ambiguous, but in my opinion makes more sense.

You may also notice some modifications to existing text. This is to make the reasoning behind some DOW's seem more unstable and insane, or to clarify on why they're attacking.

I hope you enjoy. The goal is simply to break up the repetitive diplomacy dialog and hopefully make the game more immersive. Please leave feedback!

I will continue to expand upon these if the mod is popular. Thanks!

Version 2!

  • New "We are about to be destroyed" text.
  • 2-4 more First Greeting text for all non-DLC leaders.
  • New luxury trade text!
  • New "Human DOF so AI Denounce" text
  • Some text which only had 2 available options in V1 was increased to 3 options in V2
  • New AI diplomacy screen greetings (Neutral, Polite, Hostile)
  • Added new trade text (No Deal Possible, Trade Reject - Insulting, Trade Reject - Unacceptable, Trade Accept - Acceptable, Trade Accept - Human Concessions, Trade Accept - Generous)
  • New AI Open Borders and Demand request text.
  • Some hidden references! Try to find them! More to come!
  • Changed Progress Screen - Production text
  • Added new Progress Screen dudes ("Plato has completed his greatest work....!") etc.

Uploaded to civfanatics as well. Let me know if there are errors. Link here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=17406

This looks pretty neat. I just have two questions, stemming from my personal inexperience with mods.

Would I have to start a new game, or could I attach this to a game I'm already partway through?

How likely is the possibility that this mod might conflict with other mods, like Thal's mod?

Thanks!

1. I don't think you can load mods halfway through a game. This is a problem that I cannot think of a solution to fix. And if there was one, it'd be a complicated process that Firaxis would have to implement.

2. It shouldn't conflict with any mods, really, unless these mods directly update/add texts that I have included/changed with this mod. All I have changed are text files, and I doubt Thal's balance mods would touch the ones I've touched.

If you are having problems, open up your other mods and check their text files. If you do a compare between the two, you should be able to find the conflicts (the same text tag would exist on both mods). Simply change the tags (or remove one of the updates) to a different number and you should be good to go. I doubt you'll have this problem, however.

Thanks for your support!

Thanks!

I remember reading in other threads for some mods that they were save compatible, which I think means that they could be applied to preexisting saved games. I could be wrong though (and probably am).

I'll be giving this a try on my next game. Thanks again.:)

I like your other ideas, but this point alone make your mod a must have :D

Much appreciated!

My next focus is to beef up the very limited responses and add some original city-state dialogue. Working on that now.

EDIT: Well original city-state dialogue seems impossible, all of the text strings don't have _1 or so at the end and I don't know if adding one will actually do anything. So I'll probably focus on civ-specific dialogues instead next.

Would it be possible to make it so that when a civ attacks a city state you are at least friends with, it will tell you which city state is being attacked? As it is now, the attacking civ's leader just comes onscreen, and tells you that he's attacked a civ you are linked to, and doesn't give you any clue which one is being attacked, and gives you a choice of saying something along the lines of "You shall pay for this" or "I won't let this come between us."

I'll let you know when I get home later this evening. I haven't been working on this because I have other things at the moment (also working on a scenario), but I'll definitely push another version of this out sometime in the near future. My apologies for the wait.

Many thanks for the praise, leeuw01. :)

you couldn't upload this here could you? i'm having problems downloading mods in-game at the moment.

I have never uploaded to civfanatics before but I will now, in this case. Thank you for showing interest in the mod.

Version 2 is coming up soon. It's not big, but I figured I'd keep a small stream of updates coming.

New in this release are:
  • More "Destruction Looms" quotes
  • New first greetings for all non-DLC civs (DLC civs to come soon)
  • Secret references! Let's see if you can find them!

I know it's small, but I have another scenario that I'm working with at the moment. This mod is pretty easy to update - expect more to come. Also, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to add them.

I don't think this is possible, but to be honest I haven't experimented with this. It may be possible with the CivName tags, but I think that has to be a major civ they're targetting.

Hm, it seems the mod (I don't know why...) but I'm going to see if there's a duplicate text string somewhere. Wierd...

Update: This is going to take a while to fix and I don't have the heart to do it right now. I'll hold this off until the weekend. I apologize.

Well I've split my mod up, and it turns out the problem was in the V2 updates I made. Everything else is working, so I just have to find that error and we're good to go!

Version 2 is up on ModBuddy!

Could you also see if you can add some new advisor messages, if possible? When I click on their window occasionally they always say the same thing, like a broken record player

I'll check. If they're not labeled as "_1" then I don't think I can do it.
