"Extracting" other units animations/Textures

Hi, Im new here.. and I hope I don't get in trouble for this, but what is the policy on borrowing animations and graphics from other games? like I was planning on somehow "extracting" the Russian Infantry sprites from Hearts of Iron for C3C.. am I allowed to post it here or will I get in trouble? its just.. one post I saw that your NOT allowed, and another post was a big post about someone converting Cossacks into Civ3..

Also, how would I go about extracting the animations and graphics from Hearts of Iron?

Steph has converted units from Cossacks and its AddOns, but I think he has permission from the creators of that game. You could try to get one from the "Hearts of Iron" team too.

Generally, I´m not sure what the legal position in such cases is. Some say as long you do such thing for non-profit use it is ok, or at least accepted, but as said, I´m not sure if this is right....
