FailedReality's Pitboss (1st - Vanilla)

I am hoping that in these current wars people will observe the no double turn rule?

Yep... I Agreed.

why is everybody on war with me????

"Aren't you afraid the Empire's going to find out about this
little operation and shut you down?"

"That's always been a danger looming like a shadow over
everything we've built here. But things have developed that will
insure security. I've just made a deal that will keep the Empire out
of here forever."

I would like to figure out how you killed a unit in 840 oh and also in 860 before I had a chance to move.. Isnt that the double move (dm) rule...

Thats B*llshit..!

If you haven't read the last couple of pages there is allot of discussion about DM in this game and the rules doesn't state anything against it.. Afaik you are the host so you can do what you want though(rollback...).

come on though, common sense says it all.. So I guess I will just set my alarm and when the turn changes, I can DM all I want..

So if we have to move PAST common sense, I'm going to state the DM rule NOW..

Do it again and your gone..
Lets be fair and play right

Didn't want to have to do this but since people are playing like kids..
Then I guess we will treat them that way...

What if someone doesn't login on time? At what point is it ok to double move? Wouldn't there be an advantage to the person who knows they are supposed to move first, but waits until near the end of the timer? (example - I usually login near begining of the turn, but now that I am in a war and I am supposed to act first - what if I decided to wait?)

Isn't that just as bad? How long would you have to wait for someone to move? 9 hours? 12 hours? 17 hours?

yeah that needs to be discussed, but I have had enough.. If I have to take the game down until we all work through the rules issues I will

Just reading over the last page - it looked like it was established in the game that unless you have an agreement for this war - DM is allowed, but not looked well upon (meaning - if you have a history of double moves someone can use it against you).

There seemed to be a number of statements similar to this one:
Just paying back is all. We also had no double move agreement for this war, and it is not stated as a game rule anywhere.

???

From this page - it looks like both Lev and Neo have agreed to a non-dm war.

Sonny, myself, and failed - have not made a public or pm agreement to my knowledge. (He merely asked a question and I put a confusing starwars quote out there - which empire am i talking about - nobody has guessed right).

Now in a war where the Rules of War (RoW) have not been agreed on - seems to me that the first one to do it gets publically shamed (ex: first to use nukes, chemical, biological, double-movers, etc. - c how I slipped that in there? all equally abhorrent!!!) and will face some sort of punishment (either diplomatically or in future wars).

If Sonny wins the war - he will play the rest of the game as a potential DM'r and people will have to take that into acct when doing diplo with him. If he loses the war - he may be in a place where he is simply trying to do as much damage as possible before being wiped off the planet. Would you do the same in the same situation? Fight to the end - in any way possible?

I can definitely see where it is an advantage to people that are online all the time to DM, but unless there is an agreement - why not assume DM's might happen and move your units in a cautious manner (not sending out lone units assuming that someone won't try to pick it off with a DM)

If you make an agreement and someone breaks it - that might be able to be settled at wars end in extra damages in negotiations or something.

This is my first pitboss game.
Before CIV 4 I played mostly RTS where you had to use every possible strategy to survive. The CIV crowd seems to be a hybrid mix of RTS and RPG (Where more attention is paid to the story then just strategy). It would be nice to see future versions of the game where actions are declared in any order but where results are not figured out till the end of the round. That would take care of the DM problem.

I don't think figuring out how to avoid DM should be an issue. You both have a whole day to take the turn. I think what is standard is the second person gives the 1st 8-10 hours to make a move.

If that doesn't work for the 1st person you can always switch order, or extend it past 8-10 hours.
