Fall Further 050 Balance Issues

Yeah, this thread is full of things that aren't problems anymore (PZs for example)

maybe we should have a new balance thread for each patch

Yeah, this thread is full of things that aren't problems anymore (PZs for example)

Doesn't stop me from reading the end of it to find the latest issues. Remember that the whole thing was run in a single thread for the first 9 months or so...

Basically anywhere other than the bug thread is fine by me. It's much easier to scan that thread for things that need fixing if it doesn't get cluttered with things that aren't actually bugs.

Doesn't stop me from reading the end of it to find the latest issues.

But it DOES discourage others.

A lot of people, especially those new to FF, don't want to wade through a 50 page thread to find out where they should start commenting. And along the way, they pass by hundreds of scary bugs and such that aren't there anymore.

I find that big threads in general, are very confusing. And somewhat contrary to the general nature of threaded discussion. The longer a thread grows, the higher the barrier of entry to newcomers wanting to post in it, without making themselves look silly for mentioning things that have already been said.

Personally, I'd welcome a new bug AND balance thread for each patch. Or at least, each patch that's worthy. Minor bugfixes probably don't need discussion

No chance with the bug thread as we don't have stickying privileges - we just have to ask nicely and the mods sort it out. Per-patch would be too much to ask in that case.

It also means that bug and balance issues would be spread across multiple threads - a thread made for patch E won't necessarily be exhausted by patches F, G or H. The whole point is to concentrate them in one place, making it easier for us to find reports/discussions.

At the end of the day the threads are a reporting tool for us to get feedback. It's not expected that everyone that posts will have read the whole thing, and with balance it's actually good to see the same point brought up at different times by different people (if one person posts it once and it's never mentioned again, it'll get little attention). The opposite is true for the bug thead (one post should be enough) - but all that requires is a brief skim of the last few posts for recent versions provided the thread has been kept on topic.

perhaps every 3-4 patches would be good, then.

The point is, this thread is 15 pages long. It's good to get a fresh start every now and then

Egrass the Founder just got eaten by a giant spider out of nowhere.
He's str5 and has Combat V, plus the Ring of Striking.

I really hate those spiders.

You'd really think you'd be using recon units to escort by now then :D

Perhaps it would be better if we post balance issues for the FF mod, rather than how to balance the balance thread

Really, why Khad does not have the hero promotion?

I'd like to remind all the spider haters about one thing:

Hawks.

What, so I can see just how badly I'm going to get my ass kicked?

Yes, that spider is carrying orthus' axe. IT ATE ORTHUS
No, I didn't set that up with the worldbuilder. It really happened, and it's sitting right next to a spot where I was going to put a city.

As a side note, why, exactly, are animals allowed to carry equipment? 95% of them don't even have prehensile thumbs.

Just to make things a little bit worse, spiders are one of the very few animals that get defensive bonuses.

Oh look, an area full of forested hilltops.

It cost me Seven thralls, one of my best Wild Trolls, and 3 reloads with a highly promoted Troll Hunter, but I finally took that thing down.

And I didn't even get to capture it :(
My hunter had Subdue Animals, but it just died. I thought the point of animals gaining strength in the wild was to make them more worthwhile to capture ?

Now that I think about it, I've never captured something, even with beast masters, unless I had the Command line maxed + crown of command. Ever. And THEN I end up capturing dang near everything and their mother. ;3 <<< Loves spamming Commands. :p

Come to think of it, subdue animal doesn't seem to be working properly. I'm 0/4 in my current game.

It usually works for me EXCEPT in my last game I was at war with the elves and their Priests of Leaves kept spamming Tigers at me. My Rangers with subdue animal killed, but never captured any of the elven Tigers.

LMAO

I read that to my co-worker... We both got a GREAT laugh about it.

We had a spider kill one of his units in a MP game and it got the ring of striking from him. It then proceeded to spend the next 100 turns terrorizing his entire civilization. Everyone was afraid to leave their homes. All non-necessary travel stopped and any that absolutely HAD to happen, was done in LARGE groups.

We never did kill that spider. It simply disappeared. Since that day any time we have a spider start to give us problems we start looking to see if it has that Ring. It is like a Scarlet Letter sort of.

We would like to apologize to you that he has grown tired of ruining our lands and apparently decided to move to greener pastures that happen to be much closer to you.

Thank you for a very good laugh this morning.
