I picked Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. By far one of my favorite movies of all-time, this classic has a great script and was released just after the cuban missile crisis. This film and Chaplin's The Great Dictator are incredible masterpieces.

Do I need to mention Peter Sellers performance and numerous roles? He truly was a genius actor. So was George C.Scott.
Great, great movie.

Edit: This was meant to be a poll...
The options are:

Paths of Glory (1957)
Spartacus (1960)
Lolita (1962)
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Barry Lyndon (1975)
Shining, The (1980)
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

I've only ever seen two of his films, and I can't say I'm too impressed with his movies. Spartacus was a real yawner, the only good part was the battle scene. I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey after hearing for years how it was the best sci fi film ever. It was bizarre, confusing, and incredibly boring. Honestly, did he really need to show us the entire trip to the moon-- in real time?

I guess his other movies might be better (they ought to be, since he's so popular) but from the two I've seen he seems really overrated.

Without a doubt, Dr. Strangelove.

Bomber gap, missle gap, MINE SHAFT GAP!

i also think he's overrated, but a movie like 'clockwork orange' was way infront of its time...

Here's my ranked order of preference of the ones I have seen:
2001: A Space Odyssey
Full Metal Jacket
A Clockwork Orange
Eyes Wide Shut

Well I've only seen three. And of the three I've seen here's how I rank them for best to worst.

1- Eyes Wide Shut
2- A Clockwork Orange
3- 2001 Space Oddisey

Barry Lyndon. Great adaption of a fascinating story. One of my absolute favourites.
Dr.Strangelove and Clockwork Orange are great too, as is the first part of Full Metal Jacket.
And I also don't like 2001:A Space Odyssey.

full metal jacket is THE BEST vietnam film ever. no doubt.

i recently saw Paths of Glory...it was alright, i guess.

it's about WWI and the high french command and their complete disregard for human life (their own troops, no the enemy).

Dr. Strangelove by far!
"Communists are corrupting out precious boldily fluids."
:rotfl:
As for 2001: I agree that it was slow, boring, bizzare, and pointless.
It's the 2nd Most idiotic movie I have ever watched, after "The Cube 2: Hypercube" (:dubious:)

Dr. Strangelove, by far. One of my favorite movies ever. I loved Full Metal Jacket; The Shining was great; Clockwork Orange was interesting; 2001 I must agree was a bit slow (albeit interesting). Dr. Strangelove though is easily one of the best movies I've ever seen.

GEChallenger, sometime when you've got patience to spare (it's not exactly a fast-paced slapstick), you should consider checking out Dr. Strangelove. It's well worth seeing (IMO).

clockwork orange takes the crown for me, i always feel like i need a glass of milk while watching it ;)

Strangelove
Full Metal Jacket
Clockwork Orange
Paths of Glory.

2001 is not bad, provided you read the book first. But
its pacing is dreadfully slow in places.

:( Im the only shining fan.

Come play with us Danny, forever.......and ever......and ever.....and ever....

I can't vote for The Shining. Had I seen it first at my age, and not at eight years old, I would have loved it. Btw, I just realized I love every movie of his I have ever seen.

So I've heard. I'll have to see if my university library has it.

Of those that I've seen I'd go with Full Metal Jacket.

I must go with Dr. Strangelove. It manages to show the cold war in way that no other movie can.

I don't think I could choose one as my favourite. However I think I read that Kubric did not consider "Spartacus" as one of his films since he was hired to direct it.
If I was going to sit down and watch one now, I think I'd put on Strangelove.

Barry Lyndon (1975) and Eyes Wide Shut (1999) .
The first has a nice mood, the latter has the better story.
Paths of Glory is a no-brainer with nice acting.

Not the only one, although I think the movie's impact has more to do with Nicolson's characterization of Jack Torrance than Kubrick's direction. Nicolson was brillant.

That being said Kubrick's Shining is one of the few successful King adaptations and is far superior to King's own attempt.

Those little girls always creeped me out (evil kids always do), as does the idea of being isolated with a madman for months with no hope of escape.
