What people of international fame have you met? Did that change your life, or did it have no impact whatsoever?

I met Francois Mitterand, Sandy Peterson (chief designer for Age of Empires), and Garry Kasparov. Meeting the latter did have quite an impact in my motivation to learn chess...

Let's see. . . met George Kennedy once. He was pretty nice.

Way back when, about 20 years ago, I met a lot of professional bowlers. I was heavy into bowling then, and the pro's that lived in my area showed up at our All Star banquets and tourney's. I never made it that far (honorable mention a couple of times) but my sister did, and we met Earl Anthony, Marhsall Holman, and a few others I don't recall the names now. Shows you how old I am.

My wife is also friends with two comics here in KC. One was the writer on the Dilbert show, among others, and the wife (who's friends with my wife) is a stand-up comic, soon to be actor. Well, paid actor, that is. Through her my wife has met a couple of the local celebrities as well.

Oh, and my dad works with a lot of politicans in Washington, D.C. His work is rather high up in the tribe, so he's met a lot of people in the government through his work.

I know ther sun of one of the guys from "the godfater" movies, and I know a guirl who used to live a house down from Adam Sandler

I'm not much into famous people, but football coach Otto Rehhagel (now coach of Greece's national team) once lived in the same street.

Let me think... none.
If I ever get the chance to go on a gameshow I could meet one or two...
Alex Trebek?

I've met the Rolling Stones, Mr. T, all of the Kids in the Hall and watched Norm MacDonald as he slugged his way through as a club comic before going on to television. This is all due to working in a small Toronto comedy club.

None of that compares, however, to meeting Bunny Larocque in the parking lot of my local rink!

Cool, what was he like?

Several close calls, but never actually met any celebrities.

Was on hand to witness the filming of "Me, Myself, and Irene" at Ben and Jerry's in Vermont--on my birthday, no less (that's why we went there). But we couldn't get up there (it's on a hill overlooking the road that goes by), as they were shooting and the place was otherwise closed for the day. So I almost got to meet Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger, but didn't.

When I lived in Nebraska, I found out that Harrison Ford liked to stop in Lincoldn and go bar hopping on occasion. Too young to drink back then, so...nope.

Also, back when she was just starting out, Christina Aguilera was on hand to perform at the state fair, but beforehand she decided to have a little fun...she spent most of the day at a popular arcade/entertainment center in Lincoln. But I was at work at the time, and never went to that place anyways, so...nope again.

For those into basketball, Dean Smith, Phil Ford and Michael Jordan should be familiar names. Got to meet all 3 at the same time.

Was at university with

Stephen Hawking
Phil Edmonds - Endland cricketer
Alastair Hignell - England rugby and cricket

Alan Aykebourn - playright - lives in Scarborough.

My wife was a supermodel in the sixties and seventies.

You just love to bring that up, eh col? ;)

edit col : you bet ;)

edit sys: so would I if I were in your shoes! :)

When you all say met, do you mean as in talked to them? Pointed at them and say oh my god it's ....? Walked by them? Or spotted them at circumstances you're not supposed to spot them (theatres, concerts, shows...)?

I haven't met any internationally famous people, and not really any famous swedish people either. I heard someone had seen Nicole Kidman walking downtown though, and at the local swimming pool... My dad also stood behind Martin Dahlin (swedish football player) in a line to an airplane.

I mean 'met' as in knew, talked to, had a cup of tea/beer with.

met the guy (Mal Stamper) that was incharge of designing/building the 747 for boeing. he's one of the founders of the nonprofit i work for.
not sure if he ever got to a CEO/President type position at Boeing but he was at least at the 1nd step down for some time.

not realy a celebrity as such, but still....

I had a beer with Uwe Seeler in Hamburg in may 2001.

Uwe Seeler and Pele are the only two football players that have scored goals on 4 different World Chamionships.

I also had a brief conversation once with our Queen's second son, Prince Johan Friso of Orange Nassau.

I met a really famous person once but I forgot who it was ;)
(I don't care about VIPs)

Went skiing with the King of Sweden by accident once.
