Generally a few turns into a game (this happens with all versions of the Rhyse and Fall mod and the Fall from Heaven 2 mod, but not in normal games) I get a CtD with this message:

FATAL_ERROR

Memory allocation failure - exiting program.
Reason:bad allocation

I have Vista 32 bit.

The weird thing is all of these mods used to run perfectly well (same computer) but now they all crash a few turns in.

Have you installed Civ 4 as per my thread in the top of this forum ?

yeah, but if it worked before, why would install folder be a factor now?

grab a memtest86 boot-cd and let it have a quick look at your computers memory.. just to make sure that's still ok..

Did you install updated or new mods - install folder is an issue then.

What's a memtest86 boot-cd?

What exactly would be the issue? I installed the game years ago, though I probably didn't follow a special procedure to do so. I can't reinstall now because I lost my BTS CD.

"c:\Program files" have different access rights on Vista / Win 7 to when Civ 4 was written for Win XP. see my thread for details.

MAF errors occur when the game runs out of memory and this happens more often in 32 bit Windows.

Have a look at this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=225205
and the thread linked to in the first post: I fixed the MAF error and here's how.

Both concentrate on XP x32 but there is info in there for Vista x32.

Reinstalling will not make any difference.

I meant what could I fix there without reinstalling?

Thanks, I'll try that.
