Took my ipad mini for repair for a cracked digitizer (the glass screen). Three days after picking it up from being fixed, the LCD screen is all screwed up. The repair store said they couldn't possibly been at fault for the LCD screen going bad right after they repaired the digitizer. They are not an Apple authorized dealer, but they do claim they repair all ipads for area school districts so they know what they are doing.

I owned the ipad mini for 1.5 years. seems too short of time for the LCD screen to go bad, but then again I did have some of my kids playing with it, and with the glass screen cracking, obviously it was not taken care of perfectly.

Is it just bad luck/timing that the LCD screen goes bad after having the digitizer replaced, or did the repair store likely screw something up?

Various thoughts:

I wouldn't expect 1.5 years too be too short of a time for the LCD in an Apple product to go bad - they only warranty any of their products for a single year. If longer hardware reliability is a priority, I recommend purchasing hardware from companies with longer support periods.

Going rate for ipad minis is only around $150 now anyway, don't know how worthwhile repairs are when ifixit is selling the digitizer assembly alone for $100.

I'd be very skeptical of the shop - ifixit rates the digitizer repair as "very hard", and looking through the repair steps it includes numerous opportunities to damage the lcd.
