Animal House. Epic food fights are as good as any other epic fight scene.
Mad Max 2
Kenneth Brannagh's version of Richard III was pretty good from memory
Braveheart

last samuria is great and so is mad max and the patriot!

only thing is i dont think the samuria shold have done as good as thay did in the movie :S plus whear are the wemen that fought on thear side?*the samuris*

And for awesome fight scenes that might not qualify under the heading of 'epic battles', there's plenty from Asia.

Kung Fu Hustle
Once Upon A Time In China

Just watching the local news, fairly decent epic battle in there too.

Heh, Kung Fu Hustle was excellent.

The battle for Minas Tirith is probably the best I've seen. I love the Ride of the Rohirrim scene. I just wish that they had kept it accurate to the book (Gandalf confronting the Witch King after Grond broke the gates, the humans winning the battle themselves) instead of the magic "ghosts kill 100,000 orcs in 5 minutes" movie junk. Still, it isn't all that bad.

Battle of the Crater in Cold Mountain. (though really short)

Siege of the English bridge in The Messenger: Story of Joan d'Arc

Siege of Jerusalem in Kingdom of Heaven.

Storming of the Alamo (The Alamo, 2003)

Siege of Fire Base Gloria.:D

Sieges are just plain awsome.

Some that I was going to list are already listed above, so I'll go straight for the obscure reference. If any of you all have seen the old Soviet movie, Alexander Nevsky, I think you'll agree it's got a great battle scene when then invading Teutonic Knights fall through the ice while fighting on the frozen lake.

Does "The Ten Commandments" count when the Red Sea drowns Pharoah's army? If so, a classic.

The opening scene of Gladiator, only 10 mins long but fantastic none-the-less.

I was very disappointed with Alexander, one of the greatest battles history has know reduced to Oliver Stone's Crazy Camera and a blood soaked sandstorm :nono:

D-Day landings on Omaha in "Saving Private Ryan" - I know, it was very Hollywood style, but I liked the raw scenes of war.

Then fighting in Stalingrad in "Enemy at the Gates".

I like the opening of Gladiator myself, but I'm sure most of the vets around here knew that already ;)

The first two movies I watched after we won a 50" flat screen plazma TV were Alexander and Kingdom of Heaven. Absolutely awesome!!! Did I say how awesome it was?! Need to see the other ones on this screen to compare.

My favorite by far is the Battle of Pelennor Fields in Return of the King. I absolutely love the part when the Rohirrim arive and King Theoden gives his rousing speach. The movie did a fantastic job. I love that cavalry charge, what appears to be many horsemen is just a small wedge heading into this massive ocean of Orcs. Then you watch the Rohirrim just overrun this massive army of Orcs. Awesome graphics, amazing visuals, really exciting.

The matrix trilogy.

I know it's not a 'battle scene' but the fight between Neo and Seraph is awesome. The only film fight I've seen where no one lands a punch.

They Live has a blinder of a fight scene.
