My favorite is the Hittites the Three-Man-Chariot is incredibly fast. Nice stuff to bully your immediate neighbours. Even some distant ones. Good start for conquering the fertile crescent.

The Greeks come in second. It's just one of the stronger peaceful Civs. Short way too UU and Hero + You start with TOOL. So I can play my worker first strat without compromise.

Egyt is a nice one too. Industrial wonder splash deeply satisfies my builder's heart, but poor land to expand after 3rd city.

(Play still on Warlord level for the fun and to get the feel of it.)

I played only 10 civs on pre-made normal med map untill now.
I'm planning to play the remain civs soon. The next will be Dacians.

My two cents:

Agamenon rocks! Quick oplites, strong 4/4 biremes and 50% fast GW building push greeks on the top.

Romans have free units promotion as major advantage. Warmonger-style players should enjoy them, but Legions come too late, and onagro is useless.

Lydian is the civ that better fits my builder-style of play. 5 hammers hills and 4 gold square (with wonders or improvements) made me crazy!

Hittites are too much crowed beetwen rival civs, so you need war soon and often. Not good for my style of play.

Germans have extremely poor starting location. Dense forests, mountains and no sea access are absolutely frustrating. You need wars soon, so Berserker + WoodHunting are very nice UU.

Teuta has all belligerent neighbors and Kimbsors are the right answer for them.

Gauls reserved me a ugly surprise. I started to build cities like a crazy due the wide open space and the fast border growth (creative traits), untill I found myself in the mid-game with no money and set on 10% research, crippling my brilliant initial development.

Viriato was an easy game. I played it under TAM 1.96, when javelineer came immediately. I wiped out Argantonio ruling the whole iberian peninsula.

Phoenicians let me uncertain. They have merchant and naval UU but haven't sea resources. Land development is hard because they suffer strong neighbors like Egyptians and Babylon. Very challenging.

I just finished yesterday my Partatua game. No wheat, no cows, no iron in the Scythians area, so no granary needs and no iron promoted units also. I fought strong and funny naval battles in the black sea, but I built later and never used mounted archer UUs, because in the tech-tree I dislike the archery and mounted combat paths.

On the contrary, I been very succesfull with the phoenicians. I play on Noble - Prince and usually I end up grabing a lot of wonders and being an early naval power, which leads me to the conquer of most islands in the med.. Also the merchant boat it's quite useful when you're not in need of extra units, extra money to mantain science rushes helps.
