Hey everyone, pretty new here, but I am big time civ fan. One of my favorite things about the new Ethiopia pack is the music, it's so good! What are your favorite civ soundtracks?

Here are a few of mine.

Spoiler :

Ethiopia

China

America

I like all the ones you cited, though of those three, China is perhaps my least favorite. It's tough for me to say which I like most, but I am very fond of these three due to their excellent instrumentation and strong melodies:

Spoiler :

I guess other favorites of mine would be the India, Nubia, Turkey, and Zulu themes. The only ones I actively dislike are the Maori themes (the haka music cuts against the melodious rest of the themes, and the use of instruments alongside the haka singing is cacophonous), Netherlands (dull and boring), and Khmer (sounds like a spider climbing up a tree on a children's TV show). Overall the Civ VI music is the best thing about the Civ VI game.

Two words: Thula Baba (though I also adore the Zulu Medieval theme)...

Spoiler :

Another favorite is Rome's Mare Nostrum, something about it I just like...

Spoiler :

Enjoy Poland's themes in general, very peaceful and soothing music:

Spoiler :

Mongolia's music in general I like but esp. their Medieval theme:

Spoiler :

Of course as I play as Egypt a lot I like most of their songs (again, esp. their Medieval theme):

Spoiler :

Would be remiss not to mention the epic Industrial theme for Greece...

One question for everyone's consideration is whether you prefer epic, bombastic music or calmer, more peaceful themes for the main civ themes. Do you think variation in each civ's themes throughout the ages is important, or do you prefer slight changes per era instead? Some civs have more curious changes throughout the ages (like Jasmine Flowers' introduction of some vocals in one version, the Zulu use of auto-tune in Atomic, and the hip dance-club like rhythm of Hungary's Atomic Era theme).

And what is your favorite ambient theme? They are harder to track down than civ themes, so I cannot recall mine (though the Zulu Thula Baba is an excellent example of a great ambient theme; there was another Kongo one I liked which I can't recall the name of).

I am a big fan of the atomic era stuff because of the epic news of it all. Feels like a culmination of all the decisions I made for my civ.

Yes, they certainly have the highest crescendos. But for Atomic Ethiopia, I miss the vocals, and I think in Mongolia’s case their medieval theme is stronger somehow. Do you miss the war themes from Civ V though?

Mongolia, Georgia (specifically "Shen Khar Venakhi"), Norway, and Persia are some of my favorites. I can't say I like any of the Atomic or many of the Industrial themes, though; most of them are too bombastic for my tastes.

like Jasmine Flowers' introduction of some vocals in one version
Are you sure you're not thinking of "Kalinka"? There are no vocals in any version of China's theme.

And what is your favorite ambient theme?
The Gregorian chants that the Netherlands has as ambient: "Vox in Rama" and "Domine, Ne Memineris / Adjuva Nos."

Actually from industrial era forwards you can hear choir in the background of China's theme. It starts around 1:48.

Oh, that. I don't really count a choir singing "Aaaaaaah" as "vocals" per se; they're not actually singing "Molihua" (which is a folk song with actual lyrics).

I like so many of them... I don't know where to start but the one I recently listened to was Suleiman's ottoman. It sounds similar to the song in the warlords from civ4.

As the poster above mentioned, Scythia has an astonishingly haunting theme, but I also love the transition from seriousness to cheerfulness in Hungarian theme (heavy bias here, I'm a tiny part Hungarian) and I think it encompasses the civ (and generally speaking the turbulence of Central Europe as a whole) quite well.
Spoiler :

This Georgian ambient theme (all thier themes are great) is a pure ear candy for me, and has a sad story to it.

And Gran Colombia's theme is, well, gran d.

Here are a few of my faves...
Spoiler :
like Warlords from civ 4 or Star Wars

It has a really catchy tune and reminds of the world cup

It sounded like xmas carolers while it was out in winter.

It does feel like hard time will come no more

This one I like because it reminds me of the she-wolf that appeared in Ancient Rome that used to help out Romulus and Remus

This is actually my problem with the arrangement: it's too perky. "Hard Times" should neither sound upbeat nor dirge-like; it has to hit just the right note of bittersweet.

This one I like because
I honestly thought this was just default industrial era music. Maybe i played rome too much in vanilla...
It does feel like
If I didn't know better i would think it was taken from one of those landscape shots in saving private ryan.

IMO the greatest civ music is specifically this variant of Justinian's theme from civ4 and is the reason i have my profile picture. Organs are my weakness.
But as it stands now, the hungarian industrial theme is my reigning civ6 favorite. It just has so many moods and is very distinct and catchy.
