Does anybody have any favorite war movies? You know the ones I mean; the movies that you have to stop and watch every time you see it on the tube, no matter how many times you have seen it, or how well you have it memorized.

A bit of my have to watch list:

Midway
Operation Petticoat
The Longest Day
A Bridge To Far
Stalag 17

There are lots more, what do you guys like best?

Zulu! well, thats would be my dads anyway ;)

Wow, you guys really took me seriously on the "old" part didn't you. Some good movies here, though I do agree that Casablanca is a bit of a stretch.

How about Bridge over the river Kwai?

@Wildfire - are you talking about the original or the John-boy version?

Apocalyps Now; the sceneries are beautifull & the whole atmosphere....what can i say? Thumps up!

the gunnes of Navarro is another movie, but i can only vagely remember it so i can't say if it was good or not.

(now i hope that nobody's going to mention Pearl Harbour :nono: )

Patton <-------- definitely my all time favorite
A Bridge too Far
Bridge over the River Kwai
Castle Keep <----------- Great movie, hard to find but worth it
The Longest Day
Tora! Tora! Tora!

seems like stalag 17 , patton and the great escape are on at least once a week, every week--always manage to stop and watch for a like while to see a favorite sence or 2--like patton slapping that kid in sicily:lol:

There was a sequal to Patton called The Last Days of Patton. It didn't get much attention but is a good flick too. Sad end to a brilliant career.

A Bridge Too Far is the triumph of military moviemaking history

Zulu is, well, a great African dance flick

But for old and good good, take a run at "Run Silent, Run Deep," an intense sub flick that's truly hardcore.

"I'm sorry but we don't have the proper facilities to take you all prisoner!"

A bridge to far and Das boot are my 2 chocies

this could be my list (except Castle Keep, which I have not seen). Also I would add Porkchop Hill, but maybe that's just because I have fond childhood memories of that film ;)
