Favorite old war movies

Hands down Kelly's Heroes!

paraphrased

"And I don't wanna hear no talk about rapin' nurses and shooting the captain, is that clear!"

"We are holding ourselves in reserve in case Paris or New York is attacked"

It had Don Rickles too!

@Esckey & Whiskey Priest-

I can't believe that I forgot Kelly's Heroes either!! Truly a classic!

I love a good serious war movie, but I especially like one with a dose of humor in it, such as K. H.

Anyone here appreciate Operation Petticoat or Father Goose? Two classic Cary Grant movies.

Except for the scenes where the japanese attacks, no, but I love those scenes.:)

Haven't seen many other war-movies, the ones I can think of are Apocalypse Now and The Guns on Navarone, which were good.

All Quiet on the Western Front
The Dirty Dozen
Kelly's Heroes
Sink The Bismark
Staleg 17

"Kwai" is probably my favorite as well. "Gunga Din" is great old silly war movie that's really good.

*post 100!*

"A Bridge too Far" and "Cannons of Navarrone" are masterpieces !

Yes, further to Ozz's list, Kelly's Heroes has gone way up in my estimation over the years. The bell-ringing scene and the lead-in to the assault on the town are intense, and the flick also has one of my favorite all-time lines of wit:

"So why don't you MAKE A DEEEAAL? Maybe the guy's a Republican!"

Patton -- I own the CD but almost never get to see it (my twin daughters both scream 'Nooooo!' when I so much as hum the theme music, and my wife backs them up.) The ratio of estrogen to testosterone is way too high in my house...

Bridge on the River Kwai, Stalag 17, Saving Private Ryan are also on my favs. list.
