Traitor!!! I am the one in charge of the Tolkien stuff!!!!!!!! I like Aragorn.

Hmmm, figures, a traitor who passes up multiple opportunities for redemption in order to indulge in spiteful destruction and murder.

I like aragorn, and that is just because that he is part danish:D

I am talking about the movie now!

Mikoyan, why not vote for the grand pooba :satan: - Sauron?

My choice which wasn't on the list, is Tom Bombadil - he's got a beautiful wife and a nice little place by the river - sounds perfect.

And nothing fazes him - not even the Ruling Ring.

Boromir - I think that, since he has lived in the shadow of Mordor and seen the constant troubles and 'war-weariness' that Sauron has engendered, I can totally forgive him for....(oops, should I give away plot details, or do you think some people won't know the plot?)
Anyway, I think he's the one I feel most sympathy for. A brave man, with very human (and possibly relevant to the stuff going on in the world today) problems.

Where's Glorfindel in that list? He's a dude!

i like bombadil. he has a horse named old fatty lumkin! no cooler name than that. he also makes cool poems and songs.

you havent even read the books, spacecow...hmm, why not? how old are you? btw, lefty, what are wizards considered? i forget all the types of gods, etc. arent they the same kind of thing as sauron?

maybe old fatty lumkin can be my favorite character...:D

Pippin.

Why isn't Merry Brandybuck in (if that's what's he's called)

I am 14, and i'm almost finished with The Hobbit i only need to read about 30 pages.

A toss up between Gandalf, Boromir and Aragorn, paying note to Frodo, but I'd have to say Aragorn.

The fact that when I had the boardgame he looked the coolest of all the charcters involved. Sure, Gandalf could turn him into a piole of smoldering ash, but Boromir would go out like a champ.:)

Tom Bombadil

He's simply THE MAN. Or is he? He has such a small part in the story (and none in the movie, from what I've heard), but he is perhaps the biggest mystery of them all. Did Tolkein himself ever tell us who, or what, Bombadil really was?

"Eldest that's what I am .... Tom was here before the river and the trees; Tom remembers the first raindrop and the first acorn. He made paths before the Big People, and saw the Little People arriving..... When Elves passed westward, Tom was here already, before the seas were bent."

Tom was known by different names, to the :

Elves - Iarwain Ben-adar

Dwarves - Forn

Men - Orald

My guess is that Tom Bombadil was a 'Maia'.

most people here dont know who they are. space cow hasnt even read the hobbit, for illuvatars sake?!

but, yes, probably a maia. especially with all that singing... says he can even outsing oldman willow. and i do hope that bombadil is in the movie. his coat is blue and his boots are yellow.

and, tom is never mentioned in the silmarillion. but, lefty, didnt tolkien write a book about tom himself?

and no, he is not a man.

are the wizards maiar too?

Tolkein wrote the 'Adventures of Tom Bombadil' which I have somewhere in my (messy) bookshelves - but have never read.

The Wizards are indeed Maiar, "Olorin I was in my youth in the West (Valinor) that is forgotten" - Gandalf/Mithrandir.

Mithrandir's beard!
This is shocking!

You all call yourselves Tolkien fans
and half of you haven't even read his main works?

Hasn't anyone read:
The Forgotten Books?
The Hobbit?
Farmer Giles of Ham?
The Simaril?
The langauge reference books?
The Middle Earth encyclopedias?

What a gang of sad Harry Potter freaks you lot are!

I banish you all to the Ice Deserts!

The Tom Bombadil side plot is so random it always gets left out of any abridged versions. Anyone ever listen to the BBCs 20hr long radio play of LOTR? I am about 15hrs in at the moment, it is really very good, Frodo is played by Ian Holm the guy who plays Bilbo in the film. Bombadil is left out of the radio version too, someone told me today that Bombadil is God (as in the god, I find that one a bit hard to believe though.

Anyway after listening to the radio play I would have to say that my favourite character has to be Gollum, the guy who plays him really brings the role to life.
