I think Gene Roddenberry modeled most of the original races on the major nations involved in WW2;
Russians= Klingons
Japanese= Romulans
America= take a guess

I voted other; The Crystalline Entity, cause it removed that stoopid Tasha Yarr character [dance]

I read too much in it as well:
The Borg are the negative picture of Communism, the Federation is the positive.
The Cardassians are Fascists.
The Romulans represent ancient systems.
The Klingons (in the newer series') are like Barbarians from a Roman perspective. Organized savages, so to speak.

What's your gosh darn favourite race, then?

I don't really have a 'gosh darn' favourite.

But I do think the Vorta were rather cool.

History ans ST...

Borg are Communists? Rather not.. The "Borg" are stolen of the German non-ending Sci-Fi Series "Perry Rhodan" see http://www.perry-rhodan.us/ for an american version.

I suggest it was back in the 60ties when the Perry-Rhodan writers created the "Posbis". They were roboters with an accumulated intelligence that came of a cellular-bio-material that is like a brain. They flew around in star ships that looked like cubes with manny additional stuff so that the cubes looked rather "unfinished"... They were mankinds heaviest enemy until they could "re-programm" them...

Noticed any parallels yet?

The Borgs are just an modern-derviation of these Posbis.

Back to History related...

The only history-related things I relay noticed were in DS9: Cardassia and Bajor: Nazi-Germany and France...

That could as well be interpreted as Israel and the Palestinians, or in fact any other occupation of land that involves terrorism.

A better parallel than the two above is colonialism, for example in India. After all the Cardassians were there for a long time, exploiting the planet.

I missed the Ferengi in my last post, they are the only really obvious analogy, they are Capitalists.

I think it goes like this:

Borg = Communist
Klingon = Fascist
Human = Socialist
Romulans/Cardassians = Soviets
Vulcans = Swiss
Ferengi = Big business/What America could become.

Nah, the Cardassians are so much like Germany in the first half of the 20th century (okay except the 20s).
The Romulans have alot of the Soviets, that's true, but then the Borg would more specifically be Maoists in the cultural revolution.

And Vulcans = Swiss??? I rather associate them with esoterical people, no matter where from.

Human! what else?

And there is a Bajoran girl I like.

What race is 7 of 9? Human, then Borg, then Human?

These genetically breeded minions?

They were definately not cooler than their masters.

If the Dominion masters are so great, how come they can't manage their own affairs?

I like the Vorta. Big deal!

:D

And you have the honour of having started it.

Actually I've waited for this thread to come for more than a year now. Thanks MrPresident. I love you.

Every great master delegates work. That's the whole point of being the master. :D

I like whichever race has the scantiliest-clad females.

In the old shows, I think most aliens came from rather warm planets.

Methinks thou hast read too much into cheesy US sci-fi!

:lol:

Cardassia and bajor ARE Germany and France:

Why?

The bajoran partisans are called "Marquis" like the French resistance named themselve...

Sci-Fi? Who said I was talking about anything else but the real world? :p
If I'd be someone's master I'd surely make him do the work. :D

Certainly not. Backing away from the computer is according to most oculists increasing your chance of sustaining a good eye sight.
They are both peaceful, neutral and haven't produced anything worthwhile at all.
The Vulcans aren't neutral and the Swiss have produced Gottfried Dienst.
