Well, the Bajoran women were pretty much all hot little cuties....

But overall, the Klingons ROCKED!!! They've got my vote.

The Gorn have always held a special place for me, so I voted "other".

The Klingons for some reason always reminded me of the Vikings--maybe it had to do with Stobokor (sp?), that afterlife paradise for warriors, like Valhalla....

But the Japan analogy seems like the best one... never thought of that one though.

Vulcans: Representing the fufillment of enlightenment. An idealized future of humanity, perhaps?

I think that you should all read the forward to LoTR where JRR describes the difference between Allegory and applicability.

Whilst Gene might have originally written Federation v Klingons as an allegory for USA v USSR, I don't think that it still applies.. Modern Star Trek is not allegorical though it is applicable to many historical and modern political arenas.

I disagree quite strongly with some of the allegorical comparisons being made, though I will keep those particular opinions to myself as I do not wish to cause offence to national pride.

If you are to decide which is the best Star Trek race using the Babe(ness) method then Risans or Risians (Whatever they call people from Risa) (though definately not raisins as they come from California) should win hands down, just don't forget to display your Horgon(Sp?).

Just read the Trek magazine, issue # something. I forgot.

Klingons are Japan????

Japan has a cultre that is compared to the US-culture 1000 times bigger! They have a scientific background! etc...

Compared to feudal Japan? maybe... But in this time there are many races that fit onto the klingons.... (Vikings etc) ...

I do believe that no other earth culture ancient or otherwise fits the Klingons as best as the Japanese.

A scientific background? Are you not thinking about the Chinese?
I don't think you know much about Japanese culture. Japanese modern culture still embraces many elements of its past. Even now the traditions of the past are still visible in every day life. Even in the highly populated, neon light, commercial fest its is still not comparable to the west let alone America. I have been to Japan and I can tell you if your not prepared for it it can be quite a 'culture shock'! Atleast that was how my friend reacted to the country. There is still empahsis on politness, the correct way of doing things, just like in ancient times. People have a real sense of importance right down to the road sweeper. Simply put they are a 'better people'. No other country have I seen such overwhelming politness, where people have a real sense of duty and crime is lower than any other developed country. The people are of strong will and amazing to talk to. I remember seeing a TV show where a man tested the Japanese, he put an expensive camera on a map stand and walked away. The next day it was still there! How many other countries could you do that in? Japan may have modernised but it is certainly not a western style culture. Go there and see for yourself. Anyway back on topic, I appear to have seriously ranted:eek:

No culture has ever had a warrior culture as strong and as great as that of the Japanese. The Samurai (or simply warrior to the Klingon) trained every day past the day of their coming of age ceromony. They are given a sword at birth and learn the disciplines of the warrior. The fear not death and learn of the importance of individual combat even on the battlefield. Then there are the more delicate comparisons. On an episode of TNG Worf perfomed a ceremony of tea drinking! This had to come from the ancient Japanese tea ceromony. I could go on but I am worried that this will turn into a history lesson!

I just had to bring this back.

If only earth had a Picard. Then the world would be a much better place. Picard, defender of morality, warrior of the earl grey.

Nevertheless, I have to vote for the Vulcans. There is just something too exotic about a Vulcan woman. I like the Borg woman for this aspect too.

Someone asked earlier about the Vidians in Voyager and which episodes they were featured.

There are three specific episodes that come to mind:

1. Their introduction which I believe was in the first season.

2. When the holographic Doctor falls in Love.

3. When the ship is caught in the same space as another Voyager in a parallel universe.

I've even seen tribbles have this effect on a lesbian.
Yes, this is a well-known phenomenon (Doo dooooo, de do-doo phenomenon Doo dooooo de-do). There has been a lot of research about the so-called tribbian effect.

Flak,

I was the one curious as to whether or not the Vidians featured more than once in the Voyager series. Thanks for the info.

By the way are there any more organ stealing antics with the Vidians?

No, there was an episode with Jason Alexander from Seinfeld who was part of a think tank, who talked about how they cured the phage in echange for something, I forget what.

I voted Romulans ans humans as all the other groups are either destroyed or immensely stupid.

No more organ stealing! ARGH :aargh: Looks like I will have to do it by myself.
