[Feedback needed] AND2 Checker: Easy installation and update v0.3

I just closed and reloaded my V938 game with the launcher. I did not select update, just launch. when the game loaded it asked to recalculate. I said NO. apparently the program ignored my request an downloaded an update. (my HD signaled a download in progress.) the game still says V938 but it is apparently in cheat mode because all cities pop up and everything is one turn. also every city has gg, gp, and a great engineer, great merchant, great artist etc.
not only has this destroyed my game, I SPECIFICLY DO NOT WANT TO UPGRADE PAST v938!!!

Can you help?

EDIT; Please disregard. The game program became corrupted when I reloaded the game and did not recalculate.
to fix this I updated the game and did recalculate. now the game is back to normal.

Cheat mode does not actually give you free production or free great specialists. It just lets you see things that you normally can not see, like AI strategies. It's for debugging and development (and cheating).

Are you sure the download wasn't just the normal update check? The updater has to download the CvModName.py to check if there is a pending update.

Well I am not skilled at knowing what happened I am asking what happened.I do not know how to turn on the cheat code and have never used the debug ever. all I know is what I described.

@oldnoob: I'm not sure to understand your problem there. There is no way the update part of the launcher can launch automatically. It must have been done by your partial update yesterday or something like that, I don't know.

Regarding the recalculation when you load an old savegame, it is "dangerous" to not update as you can use old values with new mechanisms. Maybe this should be recalculated by default. It is quite stable now, isn't it? As Afforess said, the debug mode only allow to check special variables for debugging purpose, but doesn't make you cheat. You have to press some key combinaisons to cheat.

Ok! Fine then!
Did the update still remove your mods? It shouldn't.

I double check my changes after each update. the only one of my changes that are a problem for me is the More Music mod which refuses to play even though I try continuously to adjust the launcher settings and/or reinstall.

Hi,
I have problem with latest version of installer/checker. Terrain textures option doesnt work, I have tried several times change to blue marble but game stays default:(

Could you open the mod folder, then Assets and change textures in the launcher. When you choose a different one, it should extract a file named "terrain_textures_*.fpk" and remove the previous one.
Do you see two "terrain_textures_*.fpk"?

Hi,
I can change textures in launcher and blue marble fpk extracts in assets folder but default ones stays there also. Previous versions this works fine..

Strange. If you remove "terrain_textures_and.fpk" and select Blue Marble in the launcher, it will work.

I may well be being stupid, but I guess some other of your users may be stupid so perhaps my feedback is useful:

I download the installer on the 5th March, and2_full_installer_2015_03_rev901
Today I have finished the game and so want to update before I start the next.
I re-run the installer
1st it seems to do a complete re-install, ie. writes all files to the Mod directory
After this I get a screen with "Start Civ4" and "Update available"
I select "Update available"
I now get 2 Module updater windows, each with a progress bar that appear to be the same process (the same proccess as in the same number of files, they were not doing the same file at the same time)
When these complete the update has been successful.

So my main question is "Is there a way to get to the "Update available" option without doing the complete re-install (if that is indeed what it is doing)". Another is should I download a new version of the installer?

@Samson: Thank you for the feedback. Early march, I've fixed several problems with the updater and released a new full build https://sourceforge.net/projects/anewdawn/files/latest/download (rev915) which fixes several problems. When you use the full installer, you are reinstalling the game (you should uninstall the mod first). When using the updater, it doesn't reinstall everything. However, it check every file on your mod installation and compares it with our server. If the file is different, it redownload the part of the file which has changed to ensure the installation is always "clean".
There should not be 2 updater process, that is why I suggest to redownload the full build.

There is an "and_updater.exe" in the mod directory that will give you the updater w/o a re-install.

Really though, this should be a desktop shortcut if it's not already.

Thanks, I will redownload next time I update.

I do not see and_updater.exe in that directory. Do you mean and2_checker.ext? The other executable is upd_proc.exe and that does not sound like it.

Yes, and2_checker.exe. The other one is the updater but you shouldn't use that manually. Start the launcher and update. You can force update with Menu->Fix->Check files again.

An idea about the checker. Would it be a big job to change the module handling so that the user could enable/disable not only the modules, but also the sub-modules? This way players could easily set-up their list of civs in MCP, without the need of editing xml files.

I just want to say that the new launcher feels amazing to use. Looks very professional! :-)

@Sogroon: It is not as easy as it should, however I can make the MCP to integrate better with the launcher in the future. It is not a priority and my new job require me a lot of time. That said, it is still better to remove the civ folder you don't want!

@Slarki: Thank you for these kind words :)
