Welcome to the rage thread. Inspired partly by this thread, the rage thread is for events that may not be that unusual, but are still truly infuriating, be they ridiculous combat results, AI Mali winning a historical victory, or anything that makes you rage hard. I'll start:

Spoiler :

Pic related: the year is 140 AD. I was just about to attack Greece

Not to sound cruel, but you're way off from the 8% goal since vassals' territories stopped counted several patches ago...

Who doesn't know these classic examples:

- You just/almost finished a wonder and another civ builds it. Okay, you get some gold, but isn't that infuriating?
- You almost get the conquerers-event for Inca's or Aztec's and you find another civ just arrived there with some adventurers.
- You want to conquer Patliputra for the shrines (UHV-related or not) and find it has been already razed. (or had flipped to China)
- You want to settle East-Siberia as Russia and find the Japanese have colonized your precious Sakhalin Island and Vladivostok area.

Just to name a few...

Question: What does FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU stands for?

That meme was never funny to begin with. Least of all when carried over from one website to a dozen others, creating a meme-epidemic.

To contribute to the thread however, I've failed the Babylonian UHV countless times because the Chinese have beat me first to Writing on the very same turn I researched it. This has happened to me every time and I think I've played those games nearly optimally until then. Kinda funny how Babylonians are the last civilization of the first four, seeing how they're supposed to represent Sumeria and the rest of the Fertile Crescent.

And then there's always the diplomatic traps: "allow no European nation in America by date X", and the single nation that still opposes you in the New World has signed Defensive Pacts with like half of the the governed world, leading you to a small scale world war.

FFUU is Russian AFAIK and in English is equivalent more or less to "Bleah". It's an exclamation and isn't an expression of rage at all, if you look at the comics at the link posted by Moshe I think it's pretty clear that the exclamation of the guy sitting on the WC is of dismay and not of rage.

No FFFUUU- is definitely a :):):):):) meme for RAGE. The implication is it ends in -CK.

Back on topic, I have two words: Incan workboat. (Wait that's three words... or one word and a compound word? FFFFFFUUUUUUUU-)

Edit: that's an odd censor... :):):):):) = demented imageboard starting with 4

I just started a game as Russia and started building the leaning tower as soon as I could in Kiev. A few turns after I start building it I see that someone has beaten me to it. I check top 5 cities and see that it's INDEPENDANT CONSTANTINOPLE!!! I go into worldbuilder and see that they are about halfway done with training a military unit, they weren't even working on it! I go back to my last save 3 or 4 turns earlier and go into worldbuilder EVERY turn to see if they ever work on it. They don't. Even on the turn before they complete it it's not being built. If they had a great engineer build it it would've showed up the turn before as having one turn left to build. BUT NOOOOOO! Is this normal? Or is this some kind of bug?

INDEPENDANT CONSTANTINOPLE!!!

Are you sure it wasn't Byzantine Constantinopolis?

Constantinople is the French/English name of the city.
If it's independent it doesn't change names, so it's possible but unlikely.

If it's 600 AD start it was probably Byzantine.

About them Byzantines: They are notorious wonder builders, but mostly they build the Notre Dame from all the wonders. Sometimes the Sistine Chapel.

Because of the Byzantine's wonders, the Turks become extra powerfull after a few turns because they always conquer Constantinopolis (Istanbul) in the 600 AD start.

BTW, I forgot to mention that I've seen this before with other wonders and cities. I've seen the exact same thing happen with Amsterdam and notre dame or the spiral mineret for example. I even saw that egyptian city (old egyptian capital on 600ad start) build the leaning tower ON THE SAME TURN THAT ARABIA CAPTURES IT. And I can't even count how many times I've seen notre dame being built only to not find it in any city in the whole world when I look in worldbuilder. Mabye it got built and razed the next turn, but I checked the whole world and saw no city ruins.

My current game is attempting to win the Arabian UHV. After I conquered Spain, I began to build the Spiral Minaret in Cairo, and it takes 16 or so turns. Someone finished it when I had 1 turn to go. I raged.

You should build it in Mekka with bureaucracy (and slavery of course) after finishing a forge first.

Bureaucracy is a terrible choice for Arabia because of the number of cities. Not worth the penalty.

I'm currently playing Japan (monarch) and I now control (as having all the cities):

- All of Japan, of course, including a city on that 1 tile island east of Taiwan (leaving Taiwan empty of course)
- All of China (including Lasa, Guiyang, Wuhan in the middle and Sanshan)
- Korea
- Manchuria (not just the south, also Qiqihaer)
- Khmer (including Singapore and Pagan)
- India (the 3 indy cities in 600 AD start)
- Philipines (1 city until now)
- Inner Mongolia (Khamul and Jinzhou and Qiqihaer, if you think that's Mongolian)

That's 30 cities total.

And I'm SOLID WITH BUREAUCRACY (and no, I don't have Representation yet)

You should stop playing with the fire. Once the expansion and economy stabilize, you have to carry the accumulated destability from that one civic. Nice empire, though.

Maybe Byzantium shouldn't be allowed to build the early Middle Age wonders. Notre Dame and the Leaning Tower in Constantinople must be a familiar sight to many here. I wonder if Rhye fully took into the account how much having both the Hagia Sofia and Parthenon affects the wonder race in the Byzantines' favor.

Imagine all the money you've wasted with bureaucracy when all your other cities should be paying less maintenance. I bet you that your science slider can go up 10% if you switch to free speech.
