FFH and BtS 3.17

Hi there,

I noticed earlier today on Steam that they've released an update to the Steam version of BtS, so I went to check if the retail version's auto-updater finds something new... and he does.
BtS patch 3.17 is out now, and apparently, it doesn't play nice with FfH - Civ4 crashes while trying to start a FfH game.

I'll see if I can find error logs or something and be back with an update, just wanted you guys to know that you should be careful updating right now.

Yes, it is well known that 3.17 breaks FfH. It was a fairly significant patch, and FfH's custom DLL needs to be updated to be compatible. Unfortunately, Kael is away in Utah for his job and doesn't have his Civ computer or the FfH source code with him. He said he will begin making it compatible with 3.17 just about as soon as he gets home.

I'm guessing that the 3.17 compatible version will be released as FfH II 0.33 instead of a 0.32 patch, since Kael was planning to release 0.33 fairly soon anyway. It is quite possible that he has already added a lot to his 0.33 version in progress, so this may be quite a bit more than just adding compatibility.




You could probably install the old 3.13 patch on top of you 3.17 version if you want to play FfH again while waiting for Kael to get back.

Ah, I must have missed that in the bug thread then. Sorry about that, I hate double-posting bug reports.

Anyways, I didn't think there was a quick fix for the problems, I expected needing to downgrade. Just wanted to post a thread that people could see skipping over the forums.

Well then... looks like I'll downgrade to 3.13 tomorrow.

I'm having trouble downgrading my BtS from 3.17 on Steam to 3.13. I downloaded the 3.13 patch but it won't recognize my BtS. I think it may have to do with the fact that the game is inside the Steam folder.

As I only play FFH, I even did not know patch 3.17/BTS was released!
- And I learn also in this thread that 0.33 is on the way
- Kael as a job... I would not like to be his employer as FFH should take so much of his mind!!!

By the way, the new patch for BtS 3.17 is in the bug thread.
Kael's job has him on call often, meaning some days he has lots of uninterupted time for modding, to our benefit.

Are you sure? I just checked, and the latest version is 0.32 patch h.

Will 3.17 compatability be 0.33 or a new patch?

Wouldn't it make sense to make a new version number when changing to 3.17 rather than a patch letter?

There are reasons to stick with 3.13 (HOF entries for example) a bit longer. Some players might not want to update to 3.17 and be disappointed when the best mod out there is broken because they didn't read the fine print on the latest patch.

Just my 2 cents.

edit: I see the note on 3.17 in patch g now. I'm glad that I didn't get around to downloading it yet.

Well, then uninstall BTS. Than install it and install patch 3.13.

Nothing against Solver, but I am accustomed the all of Bhruic's fixes and I'm hoping to see a patch from him before I upgrade to 3.17 myself. Also, Wolfshanze hasn't updated his mod to 3.17 yet and I play that over normal civ. It's way more fleshed out if you haven't tried it yet.

Most of Bhurics fixes were incorported in 3.17 by Firaxis. In fact I had checked a lot of Bhuric's fixes in FfH and I got to remove those exceptions in the merge since 3.17 already had them all.
