FFH Editor for Old Excel

I am having problems with the FFH editor because I use an old version of MS Excel. In particular, the version Microsoft Office Excel 2003.

And yes, I do have a converter, even the official one, but witch ever I use the result is always the same. It messes up the macros and controls in it making it useless.

Now obviously, I am not going to buy a new version of office since I am not made of money. Because of this I am asking this.

Does anyone have a working version of the FfH Editor.xlsm converted into an office 2003 friendly format? If so, can you link me to it.

No idea if this would be useful for you at all, perhaps try openoffice? Has MS office compatibility and is totally free. It's what I use since I'm a cheap bastard.

Thank you, but I heard all sorts of bad things about OO. I was kind of hoping that someone with 2007 would simply hit the save as key and attach a 2003 version. Should be trivial.

If the official converter fails I figure the Save As 2003 will fail too. They'll most likely use the same converter.

I have Office 2010 here at work, but no access to the FFH xlsm file from here. You should have my email thanks to the PBEM games. I'll send you back a copy and you can see what happens.

The official converter is essentially an addon to 2003 and the error it spits out says that the file is to large to convert. So save as should work.

Also, should I send you the file first? Because the emails have no connection to forum names and I am confused who is who.

If you have my email addy it should be pretty obvious. PM me if you can't find it.

How about simply doing this.

As far as I know the conversion to Office 2007 was done cause the old office did not have the required column number so you probably wont be able to 'save as' in the old format. That is not a bug in the converter, the files are just incompatible. :/

dam... so it can not be done. Now I have to do all the work manually... dam... just dam....

So I heard there's now people avoiding OO like I avoid MS Office (i.e. the death)? Cool, kinda balances the whole thing.

You have made me rolling on the floor and laughing

PPQ - if there is a choice between doing things manually and trying Open Office, maybe just give it a chance?
I do not LIKE Open Office (I prefer MS Office), but I have to work on it at work, and it is manageable.

Sorry dude, completely forgot. I'll run the converter on Monday (At home saturday arvo now) and upload here. Hopefully it'll work.

If you are using OO, why do you want to convert the FFH editor xlsm back to xls? Anyway, it probably doesn't work because of the greater number of columns in a xlsm file vs. a xls file.

PPQ isn't using OO; I was just trying to do the conversion for his sake. If I were going to try to work with it myself, I'd just use OO.

Personally, I would rather burn in hell than use OO.

Oh, but you will. Just wait and see. It's what happens to people who use M$ products: you make a pact with the (d)evil. What?! Never heard of that? It's all over the place, even the Vatican has conceded it.

As much as I hate MS Office, OO just can't compete feature and usability wise.

Anywho, I opened that file in Office 2010 and attempted to save as an Office 97/03 compatible workbook and it came up with a bunch of errors.

Thankfully it actually told me what the errors were, the spreadsheet contains data in cells beyond the 65536 cell limit, so it will never be successfully converted into the old Excel format.

That said, OpenOffice will probably be able to open and successfully use the file. Give it a shot.

Nah, newer using OO, ever.
Thanks anyway for your effort. It is appreciated.
