Which am I again?

Is this correct? If so, why? Can't you just build stone walls without building wooden ones first?

I had designed the walls being like 'levels', one adds to the other. Think of the pallisade as 'scaffolding' to build the stone wall around. Since there are already players with the stone walls improvement, i'm going to keep with this system.
I think i based it on this system after playing medievel total war (bad reason i know- but that was why it was designed like that).

I.

Medieval's a sweet game. First or second?

I guess I can see why people wouldn't want to have to spend the cash for palisades before stone walls, but as long as the stone walls are worth the total cost I can't take issue.

Okay, so i know i said i would keep the system, but i thought that about the granaries too and i ended up replacing them even though it had already been implemented by some players.

As the players all know this game is full of small design flaws; its partially because i specifically got into the 'nitty-gritty' of improvments and units (instead of using abstract levels or generic units).

So, having said that, those design flaws CAN be fixed.

Hbar, others,
if you are unhappy with the present state of the pallisade and city wall improvements please provide an alternative suggestion.
I think pallisades have been useful for those who have bought them and had to defend a city in which they are built (if ANY disagree- please say so).

immy, can you please go on MSN? i have a small question to ask, but not one worth Emailing you about.

To me, it is a matter of what resources you have available. If someone didn't have hard stone, they can always build wooden palisades. If someone does not have iron, they can make stone or bronze weapons. Either way, there is an always-available base and an upgrade dependent on available resources. Both types of walls are good at stopping armies, but one is more resistant to damage.

To me, the current palisade implementation is like requiring bronze weapons before upgrading to iron.

That said, stone walls are significantly more difficult to erect, so I think they should be more expensive (it is currently a 5g difference) and/or have a greater production capacity requirement.

good points...
does anyone else have anything to add?

Despite the set backs of the second ritual, for many in Amure, it was a hopeful moment. From the Plantations of Nimirail, to the Nicer sections of Cevedes, and even unto hippus settlements, a song was heard, rising from the hearts of the people.

Grak Gorson he could sing
He could whistle, he could dance
He went out early in the morning
Just to hear his voice ring, lady, lady
Just to hear his voice ring
Just to hear his voice ring, lady, lady
Just to hear his voice ring

When Grak Gorson was a little boy
Sittin on his daddy’s knee
He opened his mouth, and out came a song
Said this singin gonna be the death of me, lady, lady
Said this singin gonna be the death of me
Said this singin gonna be the death of me, lady, lady
Said this singin gonna be the death of me

When Grak Gorson’s Family was eaten
Eaten by the hungry dead
He picked up his daddy’s head
Said I’m gonna get me revenge, lady, lady
Said I’m gonna get me revenge
Said I’m gonna get me revenge, lady, lady
Said I’m gonna get me revenge

Well Grak Gorson went went to the scholars
Said the scholar, what can you do
I can sing, I can dance
I can hum and whistle too, lady, lady
I can hum and whistle too
I can hum and whistle too, lady, lady
I can hum and whistle too

Well the Scholar said to Grak Gorson
Gonna bring you to the tomb
Gonna make you sing and dance
Gonna whup them dead on down, lady, lady
Gonna whup them dead on down
Gonna whup them dead on down, lady, lady
Gonna whup them dead on down

Well, Grak Gorson said to the scholar
I aint nothing but an orc
But ‘for I let them dead beat me down
I’ll die with a song on my lips, lady, lady
I’ll die with a song on my lips
I’ll die with a song on my lips, lady, lady
I’ll die with a song on my lips

Well Grak Gorson said to the scholar
Looka yonder what I see
Dead breaking through, Elves dyin
And you can’t sing like me, lady, lady
can’t sing like me
oh no, you can’t sing like me, lady, lady
can’t sing like me

Well Grak Gorson open his mouth and sang
His voice was sweeter than honey
He sang so loud he broke his poor heart
And he closed his mouth and died, lady, lady
Closed his mouth and died
He closed his mouth and died, lady, lady
Closed his mouth and died

Well before he died, Grak Gorson Sang
And his song it woke the God
And he looked around, round at the gatherin dead
And he put them dead to sleep, lady, lady,
He put them dead to sleep
And he put them dead to sleep, lady, lady,
He put them dead to sleep

And they took Grak Gorson to the Tomb
And they buried him in it
Buried him next to the dead god
And every one that comes by
Says there lies a singin man, lady, lady
There lies a singin man
Says there lies a singin man, lady, lady
There lies a singin man

OOC: based on Harry Belafonte's John Henry. which is a damn good song. This was written first sung by some poor orcs who got one of thier own into the scholars, and just know he died heroically to save them all.

Hopefully this solves the problem. Pallisades are cheaper; walls are more expensive. Walls don't require pallisades and those with stone walls get a gold refund.

Wooden Palisade
Classification: Defensive Structure
Required Population: 1
Required Workforce: none required
Required Production Capacity: 0
Required Technology: none
Cost: 30 gold
Game Effect: provides a defensive advantage to troops stationed in that city or outpost.
A simple wooden structure behind which a city/outpost’s population can hide when attacked. These are the absolute simplest of defensive structures and do not extend beyond the city or outpost. Base price reduced to 20 gold if you are in possession (either domestically or via import) of hardwood lumber.

Small Stone Walls
Classification: Defensive Structure
Required Population: 1
Required Workforce: none
Required Production Capacity: 2
Required Technology: masonry
Cost: 45 gold
Game Effect: Better defense then a simple wooden palisade. May be upgraded from a wooden pallisade. Requires hard stone or brick resource.

Each of you who has small stone walls, give yourself 10 gold per small stone walls in your next set of orders and also write in your orders why you got the bonus gold (because i know myself and i'll forget if you don't remind me).

Immac.

Well I don't think you could really build stone walls without the stone source, but you can build a palisade without a "hard lumber source" - you just use more regular wood instead. That's why I think the walls have a resource requirement instead of a discount.

That said, I really like the new rules on them. Walls rule! :goodjob:

So the Eekin joined the Axis of Evil?

Oh come one, that's no fair. ;)

We're great people - we've saved hunted slaves (Hallowed), defended the weak civilizations of Erebus (more Hallowed), and even accepted political refugees into our ranks (Sisters of Sirona). It can't all be that bad.

Besides, Axis seems to imply 3, and well ... :mischief:

The next bard's competition will be for thom yorke
up-1yorke.jpg

Thom will be going to live with the nation who produces the best story about either religion or culture between the last update and update 19. His residence will be determined on update 20. Only stories written since the last update are eligible.
voting will take place after update 19 and is open to both players and to lurkers.
Orange gets a -1 vote because he won Bjork but is still eligible for this competition. the prize is the same.

For the update:

if you are trying to tech up a particular line (say culture) and its impossible to go any further without pre-requisites from other lines (say scholarship), your researchers will apply themselves to learning the pre-requisite knowledge first.

So... if you were expecting 'nationalism' and got 'apprenticeship' instead, you know why (that was an example that doesn't make sense but you get the idea)....

This is going to happen to someone this turn... so sorry.

So far yes (i think so anyway)
but there are cases (like trade and writing) where an additional tech is required beyond what is shown on the 'line map' because adding those arrows would make the map too cluttered.

so once the tech is revealed it should be evident but occassionally it is not.

If there is a particular tech you are curious about please feel free to e-mail or PM me and perhaps i can be of greater assistance

Maybe palisades should be able to upgrade to walls still, with a discount, like cottages -> hamlets?

Also, could you get on msn, I have a quick question.
