FfH2 0.22 Cometic Issues

I seem to have got away with
- Installing FFH 0.21
- Installing the update to 0.22
Copying the art files across

Surely this is how it works? I wouldn't like to think all the art needs to be re downloaded every time an update is released?

The following is after clearing the cache, with Civ 4 installed into C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
The user account is an administrator account, and the only one on the computer.
I tried installing (from the installer, not a copy-paste) FFH 2 022 into C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods\Fall from Heaven 2 022 , and changing CivilizationIV.ini to read
; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none
Mod = C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods\Fall from Heaven 2 022
so that it will actually load the mod from there.

I am running a no-CD crack (do own a copy, though), as I think the last few lines may make obvious.

Upon starting a game, there is no interface. There are my python errors. The errors are the same with or without cache-clearing. I had the same interface problem before putting the FFH2 mod into the Program Files folder, though did not take python debugging screenshots. They would, presumably, read the same. Furthermore, my Civ4 install is fully updated, and I have installed FFH2022 patch H. The problem persists.

Just hoping another screenshot or two will help make solving it easier. Are we sure that uninstalling Civ4 (and warlords, if applicable), FFH2, and then reinstalling in C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 will solve the problem? I haven't done it yet as it's difficult to do with my aunt having the CD.

Have you installed the 1.61 patch for vanilla civ?

But were did you get the new arts from? :> A major release change is something more than just update of the python scripts, those are the patches.

Do you have the intro movie for instance?

I have a movie... (haven't even watched it yet)

Sure I have some pink units, but I can't really d/load such large files all the time, so this seems to work for me

Yes, 1.61 is my Civ4 vanilla version.

I seem to have found a workaround.

Following my trail of errors from the python error report, I found that in CvAppInterface, line 73, it looked like it was trying to say "Now run showMainInterface in CvScreensInterface".

And then in CvScreensInterface, line 86, where my next error was, it looked like it was trying to say "Now run interfaceScreen in CvMainInterface".

And then in CvMainInterface, line 2036, where my next error was, it looked like it was trying to say "Now run init in Trophies".

And then in Trophies, line 70...well, I didn't know what it was trying to say. But I saw the pattern of one error to another error to another, and thought that with my lack of programming knowledge, it might be the other way around; an error at the end causes problems in the chain of things calling on it.

For example, part of program A is to run a certain part of program B. Part of that part of program B is to run a certain part of program C. This continues on through D,E, and F, until we get to G, where the actual error is. But since G can't do its job, F can't do the part of its job that requires that bit of program from G, thus screwing up everything back up the chain through E,D,C,B, and finally to A.

Now if I understand this right, the problem at the end of the chain is that there is no such file or directory "C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\Application Data\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods\Fall from Heaven 2 022\Trophies.dat"

So I moved the entire mod to "C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\Application Data\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods\Fall from Heaven 2 022" and it worked! Also, this is where Civ4 keeps its non-downloaded mods - the scenarios that came with either it or a patch: American Revolution, Desert War, Greek World, and Tutorial.

So I think the best solution is to find out where those modules are and put FFH2 in the same folder.

Now, my install has some stuff in "C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4" and some stuff in "C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\Application Data\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4", and some of the stuff in the the latter is shortcuts to the former. The interface disappears with the mod installed into ""C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\Application Data\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\MODS", but reappears if installed into "C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\MODS" alongside American Revolution etc,

Now I'm just glad I've got it working, so now I'm done messing with it. But I wonder if moving only trophy.dat to "C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\MODS" would have solved the problem without having to move the whole mod. Oh well, I have the mod all together in one place anyhow, and it works, so I'm happy.

Civilization 4 certainly is installed strangely. Why not just put it all together? Anyhow, I hope how I managed to figure it out helps anyone who is still having problems, as well as the wonderful programmers who fix errors such as these.

The default install path for Civ 4 is under Program Files, isn't it? Anything in My Games does tend to behave a bit weirdly - stuff under Custom Assets overrides the main installation and so on.

It sounds to me like installing everything under Program Files will get round not having an interface some of the time.

is the texture for the hell terrain seamless? because the border around hell tiles seems a bit cut off from the rest of the texture...

Actually, it seems to have seems running strait through the middle of most hell terrain. The boarders of each tile blend well.

Elephants are big but a bit too big in FFh for me. I scaled them a bit down and they are looking really nice now. Just a suggestion.

Talking about elephants. They are not just really big, but also very common. Didn't see a tiger or an ape for ages now in comparison. Considering that elephants are soo strong they survive until they are merely border markers I think it would be no problem to reduce their numbers a bit. Don't get me wrong, I love elephants but there are too many of them atm.

I agree, decrease elephants a bit, and increase Tigers and Gorillas a bit.

Can we decrease wolves a bit to? :/ I see them in huge numbers every game (right now I'm making an army of them with a Ranger, there's too many ><). Maybe bump up the number of bears or spiders, I don't see those often.

Edit: I think this may be a bug issue rather than cosmetic coincidence. Posted it in more detail in the bug thread.

I haven't seen many wolves since the patches...

The number of wolves is ok for me with the last patches. Just in the subpolar regions you are still able to find plenty of them.
It's only my current game with the ridiculous amount, although in all my games thus far there have been plentiful wolves and few other creatures, although the wolves were at an okay amount. I was just disappointed at the lack of spiders/bears/tigers/etc.

Edit: Also, unless my memory decieves me, Typhoid Mary has a male voice =/

I'm still waited to try Snarko's animal frenzy idea, where animals will attach anything, even other animals or barbarians. I think that is the best solution to the animal problems, and would be a nice addition to the main mod

Dont run the mod out of the my documents directory. Run it out of program files/firaxis games/civilization iv/mods/

Cand you decrease the size of the nodes, for the earth religion? when build they are bigger than my cities.
When I turn of the animations of units, the old vannilla civ graphics of civ4 shows up.

Frozen animations are not supported in FfH. They probably never will be (its a ton of work to do it that would be better spent making new units).

I will put in brackets things that should be added:

Arendel Phaedra's welcome text: You (would) do well to pay homage to the Summer throne.
Hippus peace accepted text: Well, we're always up for a raid(, with the 'D' in do no longer capital, or .) Do you know any other good targets?
Hyborem refuse to talk message: Do I look like (one who is) that friendly to you? Be gone, lest my flames do the 'talking'!
Alternative:
Do I look so friendly to you? Be gone, lest my flames do the 'talking'!

Also, while the Calabim description on the web site suggests that the other races are not aware, at least beyond suspicion, of the Calabim's true agenda, the speech of the Calabim leaders in diplomacy does nothing whatsoever to hide it.
