The Gloster Meteor was available before the Me-262 but not used offensively. The Me-262 was also only used as homeland defense against the allied bomber fleets. Problems with both was the relatively small range.
For the Italian biplane, how about the Fiat CR-30, that I tried to mention earlier?
Sorry Lucky, the CR-30 was introduced in 1932, and out of service by 1935, replaced by the model 32.
Neither type was still operational in 1940, when the make of Fiat I'm looking for was Italy's most numerous fighter, even serving in France against England during the battle of Brittain!
Well, then the only other biplane was the CR-42.
But both the CR-30 and CR-32 were used in WW2, too. Mostly as trainers and I thought that was what you were referring to when stating:"sent to war". I interpreted that as prepared for war!
Anyway, the CR-42 must be it then, as it was developed from the CR-32.
Not to be extremely petty (Okay, to be exactly that) but I did get the P-38 Answer first. The bold didn't work (My error) which may have caused it to be overlooked.
Now I think I will launch into a WR/P-like rant about rights, fairness, etc. !!! I may even threaten legal action, and to top it all off, I proclaim that none of you understand!
