Fighting sea monsters 1 - Megalodon

You don't have to kill it. As long as you hurt it a little, it'll probably back off.

Punching a shark in the nose or in the gills is enough for them to break off an attack.

It's snout is probably bigger than you!

A very logical answer to a totally illogical question - this really is the only solution that offers a prayer of surviving.

We'll just not go into the ethical side, though... ;)

Indeed. And then I'll have a renewed appreciation for having a girlfriend. Not for companionship, but from the utility derived from the possibility of such a situation.

This reminds me of a question I was asked back in the day (any British squaddies start nodding here), on one of those courses they make NCOs do to make sure they know something about the theory - the officer comes up to me and says:

Right then, <insert name here>, you think you know this stuff, then. Well, what if I dropped you, with Corporal <insert name here> over there, in the desert, miles from civilization, with nothing but a pistol and two rounds, and injured this man so badly that he couldn't move. What would you do then?

To which I famously replied without hesistation: Well sir, as you walked away I'd slam two rounds between your shoulder-blades!

In this situation, I'd turn the boat around. There's no way I'd be sailing anything that could be outpaced by a fish!

Or use one of those - I've never seen a round that big!
