Final Fantasy Mod Progress Updates, Part II

Hikaro, When do you think you will have a ..... demo or something of sorts ready. Or even when do you think you will have your project completed? BTW Looking awesome, cant wait to try it. :goodjob:

One more thing, Please tell me you dont have to have one of the expansions to play this (my computer cant support them)

I can continue my work with FF6. A couple can go either way, really, but if there's an E or an R then it's pretty much a fact. Narshe for example eventually allied with the Returners when the Empire became too much of a threat. Just to even it out at 18 you'd probably wanna make two that are questionable go with the Empire.

Narshe R
Mt Kolts R
Castle of Doma R (I would just call "Doma" or "Doma Castle")
Phantom Forest R
Baren Falls R
The Veldt R
Mobliz E
Crescent Mountain E
Nikeah E
Jidoor E
Zozo E
Opera House E
Sealed Gate E
Esperville RE
Thamasa R
The Solitary Island R
Darill's Tomb R
Colosseum RE
Phoenix Cave R
Triangle Island RE
The Ancient Castle R
Eboshi Rock E
Kefka's Tower E

I don't think anyone would be opposed to other RPG's making an appearance, but even if they were you can always release a version without those civs deleted, that's about 30 seconds work! Personally I'd like to see a Skies of Arcadia civ- another RPG that's big on airships there.

Replace Horseback Riding with Chocobo Riding

Mr. Do, thanks for the info. Once I'm done with the YAT-97's attack animation, I'll update my "civs to be added" list as well as start scrounging around for useable leaderheads (I'm half tempted to use the Emperor Palpatine LH for the Empire :D:p:lol: ). If anyone's been wondering where I've been the past few days, I've been "researching" FFX to (1) make sure my YAT-97 animations are accurate (The fortify animation wasn't, so I've updated it), and (2) get some more info for the ol' civilopedia. After "researching" my way through the ruins of Zanarkand, I got more than I bargained for, once I set out on the airship and confronted Grand Maestor Mika at Bevelle.
Spoiler :
It turns out that some things that I'd been suspecting from the beginning were pretty close to the mark. It turns out that Bevelle and Zanarkand fought a huge war 1000 years prior to when the game takes place, and as a result of Bevelles superior Machina, the armies of Zanarkand were wiped out. As a last ditch effort to save their civilization (and avenge their fallen comrades), the survivors of Zanarkand sealed their spirits in stone as Fayths, and Yu Yevon, the last of the summoners used the spirits of the dead to forge an invincible armor, and became Sin. Yevon's Daughter, Yunalesca, using her husband to create a fayth, summoned the Final Aeon and defeated her father, bringing about the first temporary calm period. Of course, she knew that Yu Yevon and Sin would return, but the teachings of Yu Yevon banning Machina and such spread, and would continue to spread as long as Sin existed, thus completing Zanarkand's revenge. Of course, Tidus and Yuna find out about the truth and destroy Yunalesca's false hope, and set out to find a way to completely defeat Yu Yevon and Sin.
I'll of course have to update the Civilopedia entries for Yevon and Al Bhed with this new info once I get around to that.

Bad Brett: I've already replaced Horseback Riding With Chocobo Riding, but haven't updated the Icons yet.

Double_j: Right now, I'm working on a Conquests only version (especially since many of the advanced features I'm using are only available in the Conquests Expasion), but if there's enough demand, I'll release a Vanilla Civ III version. There won't be any kind of demo for a while yet. I've only got about half of the tech tree finished and just over half of the civilizations accounted for. Many of the civs I've already added are missing UU's, and I always feel a bit reluctant to release a half-finished project to the public. If I can make some major progress over the next month or so, I'll see about releasing an Alpha version, but that also depends on many factors.

I'm sure you have thought about this as well, but the barbarians could easily be replaced by monsters. If it's possible to create barbarian units from the beginning you could use more than two of them, including tonberries and cactuars! Would be awesome!

By the way, I've done a lot of 3D-graphics in my life, maybe I'll learn have to transfer them into Civ III. Then I'd gladly design some more FF-units if needed.

Will you be including the awesome Weapons in this mod, or create unique units to represent some of the main characters?

I can just imagine attacking the Sister Ray in Midgar with a whole army of Diamond Weapons!

Erm, If I were to include the weapons, they'd be extremely powerful barbs. As for units, with the exception of the summoned creatures (which will be horrendously expensive to build), the Makou cannon, Advanced Airship (and UU variants), and Heavy Tank (and its UU variants) will be the upper limit for offensive power. Of course, If (a) I could figure out how to make the barbarians change with each era and (b) could find somebody willing to make Tonberries, Malboros (I might use Kinboats Gazer/Beholder), etc, I would add them to the mod.

Bad Brett, if you could make a model of the Ragnarok spaceship, and export it as either DXF, Wavefront .OBJ or 3DS format, that would be wonderful. Also on my list of stuff to make (that would be a real pain in the butt to model in Bryce) are the Highwind and the Hilda Garde III (from FF IX).

Still, I really wish I could have the Weapons or Sin as Barb units (maybe I could, but the problem with that is noone would make it past the Ancient era). I could just see the scene at the Al Bhed capitol of Home:

Al Bhed Technician: Sin! Sin ec lusehk!!
Rikku: E Druikrd cu... Shinra! Bnabyna dra Makou Cannon du vena!

(translation: Tech: Sin! Sin is coming!! Rikku: I thought so.... Shinra! Prepare the Makou Cannon to fire!)

Yes, I know, I've been spending a little bit too much time playing FF X lately.... :p

3DS is no problem. I'll see what I can do next week.

Thanks man, I apreciate it.

BTW, I've been neglecting to mention one thing that I've been working on for months: the Muzic. I've finally figured out how to add total custom music to mods/scenarios (and will post a tutorial in the tutorials section later), and here's a list of the music as it stands right now:

Ancient era:

AncECFull: Ahead on our Way (FF VII)
AncGRFull: Forested Temple (FF VII, the music played in the Temple of the Ancients)
AncMEFull: Someday the Dream Will End (FF X, played at various points in the game, most notably in the Zanarkand Ruins)
AncORFull: Cosmo Canyon Theme (FF VII)
AncNAFull: Final Fantasy VII Opening Theme (really awesome, since if you play as Shinra, this is the first music you hear)

Middle Ages:

MidECFull: Rufus' Welcome March (FF VII)
MidGRFull: Alexandria Theme (FF IX)
MidMEFull: Highwind Takes Flight (FF VII)
MidORFull: Wutai Village Theme (FF VII)
MidNAFull: Fighting (FF VII)

Industrial Age:

IndECFull: Makou Reactor Theme (FF VII)
IndGRFull: Tantalus Theme (FF IX)
IndMEFull: Suteke Da Ne (FF X, the music played during the scene with Yuna and Tidus in the pool in Macalania Woods)
IndORFull: Weapon Raid (FF VII)

Modern Era:

Techno MixFull: Prelude (FF-ALL This could be considered THE Final Fantasy theme, since this song, with very little change, has appeared in EVERY FF game. Also note, this particular choice was deliberate, since the CivIII song it replaces is the first song played upon reaching the Modern Era, and is also the end-game song that's played once you've won or lost the game).
SmashFull: One Winged Angel (FF VII, and IMO teh bestest FF music evar!)
StarsFull: Shinra Army Wages a Full Scale Attack (FF VII)

Also, there are at least two songs from C3C that are played during the modern age. The ones that I've verified (and changed) are:

ModernFull: Still More Fighting (FF VII, the boss fight theme with the funky guitar riff)
NightengaleFull: FF IX Battle Theme

Note that this list is not final, and if you have any suggestions for changes/replacements, feel free to make them (I'll most definitely be replacing some of the songs with FF VIII music when I get around to it).

if you are still looking for more ff civs, then i would consider some of the ancient and dead civs that dont directly appear in the games (as they are usually wiped out) (i.e. Ancients(VII), Centra(FFVIII)...ect). These civs usually have little information about them regarding leaders and such, but info on units, structures, and technology is abundant.

figured it might be a better idea than going cross game, also, there are 2 or 3 civs in tactics alone, might be worth exploring (unless you plan on making them all one civ)

In the case of the Centra and the Cetra, I've kind of merged them with the civs from those games. As a matter of fact, the Cetra archietecture is used for the Ancient era graphics for Shinra and the FF VIII civs (since judging from the Centra Ruins and the Centra Shelters/Gardens, they were fairly similar).

As to Final Fantasy Tactics, I've added the Kindom of Ivalice and Ordallia, but if you've got more info, then bring it on down, the more the merrier. I need, at the bare minimum, cities, towns, other locations that aren't necesarily cities but could be used for city names, leaders, VIP's, and unique unit ideas. I'll be updating the mod here soon, and post all the preview goodies as usual.

All you have is later game music... you neglect the early games!

It's been a while, but I've been busy.

First of all, I've added the following civs to the game:

AVALANCHE from FF VII. It's in the same Culture Group as Shinra, has Cloud as leader (I still need to make a Cloud LH), and I've added ONE of it's UU's: the Freedom fighter. The Freedom Fighter has the same base stats as the sniper, but can stealth attack enemies and has +1 hp. I've used Kinboat's Angel (female future infantry), because her body armor kinda looked like Jessie's from the original AVALANCHE group. I'll aslo be making the Highwind an AVALANCHE UU, as well as a unit called a Wutai Ninja. Thanks to a Japanese Poser content site, I got the perfect anime type figure, as well as most of the necesarry props for making an almost perfect replica of Yuffie.

I've also added the Returners from FF VI, and as per the poll I posted a couple of weeks ago, Edgar Figaro is the leader. I haven't added any UU's yet, but I'll start work on a Munit of Straczynski's separated german shepard and the asassin unit mad a long time ago for use as a "Shadow Ninja" (based on Shadow), as well as possibly using Flamegrapes Yeti. I still don't have much in the way of Ideas for the third UU, but I'm kind of between a Martial Artist (ala Sabin) or a Samurai of Cyan's style.

I will be adding The Empire from VI, Tycoon from V, Kiltia from FFT:A, and Estar from VIII once I can scrounge up a bit more info on those civs (as well as dig up some kind of UU's)

Here's how the current civ list stands:

100% completed civs (custom LH+all 3 UU's):

The Church of Yevon (Leader: Grand Maester Mika, UU's: Warrior Monk, Yevon Guard, YAT-97)
The Kingdom of San d'Oria (Leader: Prince Royal Trion I, UU's: San d'Orian Gladiator, San d'Orian Lancer and San d'Orian Dragoon)

Semi completed Civs (custom LH+at least one UU):

Shinra Corporation (Leader: President Rufus Shinra, UU's so far: Grosspanzer, plan to add SOLDIER and either Shinra Sub or Shinra Marine/other Shinra Infantry)
Kingdom of Baron (Leader: King Cecil, UU's so far: Red Wing Airship, plan to add Kain's Dragoons and White Ranger based on Kain and Rosa, respectively)
Garden (Leader: Commander Squall Leonhart, UU's so far: SeeD Commando, plan to add SeeD Cruiser/Assault Ship, Forest Owl, based on Rinoa, or something of that sort)
Kingdom of Ordalia (Leader: King Lanrd IV, UU's so far: Firewall elite, plan to add Royal Guard and something I wrote down a while back but seem to have forgotten...)
Republic of Galbadia (Leader: Sorceress Edea Kramer, UU's so far: Galbadian Soldier, currently using placeholder graphics until Sword of Geddon makes a better version, plan to add Galbadian Elite once Muffins finishes it, and the Iron Clad tank, once I get around to making it)
Al Bhed (leader: Chieftess Rikku, UU's so far: Al Bhed Machina and Heavy Machina, plan to add an Al Bhed Machina Jockey as a replacement for the Marine, especially since I now have the figures and props for Poser to create such a unit myself. Either that or the one of the airships from X or X-2)

Incomplete Civs (missing UU's, LH or both):

AVALANCHE (Leader: Commander Cloud Strife, will be making LH as part of current LH production run, UU's so far: Freedom Fighter, plan to add Wutai Ninja and Highwind Airship)
Returners (Leader: King Edgar Figaro, will be making this LH very soon, UU's so far: None, plan to add Shadow Ninja, Yeti, and maybe something else, not sure right now)
Kingdom of Alexandria (Leader: Queen Garnet til Alexandros 17th, UU's so far: None, plan to add Blue Narcissus, Knight of Pluto, and Alexandiran soldier)
Regency of Lindblum (Leader: Regent Cid, UU's so far: None, will start making Hilda Garde III airship in about a week from now, requested Burmecian Dragon Knight from Dease, but it's still two or three down on his pikeman project list, and also have plans for a Lindblum Aviator to replace the Paratrooper).
Kingdom of Ivalice (Leader: King Ramuza, will be making LH very soon, UU's so far: Hokuten Knight, plan to add Chemist and Nanten Knight)
Federation of Windhurst (Leader, The Star Sybil, nearly finished, all I'll be googling Windhurst Pics for BG and animating as soon as I post this, UU's so far: None, plan to add KB's hobbit for use as some kind of taru-taru, and if I can find some cat-girl props, I plan to make some Mithra units)
Republic of Bastok (Leader: President Karst, plan to make LH fairly soon, especially since he'd make a good middle age Itallian leader, UU's so far: Bastok Paladin, Bastok Swordmaster and Bastok Samurai, making this the only civ with a complete UU lineup but no LH)
Grand Duchy of Jueno (Leader Grand Duke Kam'lanaut, will start on this LH when Grandraem finally gets to 4th rank missions and can grab a screenshot when he meets the guy for his assignment, UU's so far: None, but plan on adding a goblin Inventor, Duchal Guard and Tenshodo knights)

Here's how the civs are distributed by Culture Group:

Far East:

Windhurst

Mid-East:

Al Bhed
Yevon

Mediterranean:

Ivalice
Ordalia
Lindblum
Alexandria
Jueno

European:

Baron
Returners
Bastok
San d'Oria

American:

Shinra
AVALANCHE
Galbadia
Garden

Grand total: 16 civs. This mod has finally passed the 50% completion mark, but there's still a ways to go. I am, however, confident that I'll have a workable Beta version ready for when I get out of the Navy and move into my own place sometime late March or early April. I still need a full line (4 eras worth) of Chocobo units, with a Chocobo Rider in the ancient (basically similar to the regular horseman with the spear), a Chocobo Knight for the Middle Ages (something sorta like the regular knight, but on a big yellow bird), a Chocobo Cavalry (with a gun) for the late middle ages/Industrial age, and a Chocobo dragoon for the modern era. Even if someone was kind enough to make a Poser-ready Chocobo figure, I'd be extremely happy. Even though I'll be contributing units to the Steampunk mod, I'll try to overlap them with FF type stuff as much as possible (for example, I'll be making the Hilde Garde III and Highwind, which the Steampunk team also can use), however I've been a fan of steampunk type sci-fi since I was little and watched the Wild Wild West TV show (the show that Will Smith based his 2000 movie on, BTW), so FF mod progress might slow down a bit.

Anyways, here's a preview pic I made with a Who's Who of all the LH's I've added thus far. As it stands, one of the custom LH's is by Sween32, two are by R8XFT, two by Embryodead, Two by Frenchman, and Three I did myself :D It also shows the three completed UU lines, and the SeeD commando. I'll see about doing a full spread of UU's in a future post (after I've added some more, that is).

Lets see If I can remember the Civs of 4 and 6

Final Fantasy 4

1. Baron(Already done)
2. Fabul(Chinese-like Civ to the far east of Baron, where Karate Masters live)
3. Mysidia(City of Wizards)
4. Edge's Civ(I forget the name, but they are a kingdom of Ninjas destroyed by the Fiend of Fire, Rubicant, and forced to relocate underground near an entrance to Golbez' tower of Bab-il)
5. The Dwarfs(one of two nations existing in FF4's underworld, they have Tanks that are extremely high-tech)

Final Fantasy 6

1. Figaro(Part of the Returner's, already in mod)
2. Doma(Kingdom of the East, home of Sir Cyan, Kingdom was destroyed by Kefka's poison)
3. The Vector Empire(Led by Emperior Gestal, The Empire controls the entire southern continent of FF6 with an iron fist, is nearly unstoppable with its armies of Magitech Armor. Gestahl's goal is to become a God and rule the world)

Well, unfortunately for FF IV, there are only enough cities IN TOTAL to realistically add one civ from that game (unless you want a city list of Baron, New Baron, New New Baron....). The same goes for FF VI. There were a grand total of 36 useable location names that I could dig up, so I split them between the Vector Empire, and The Returners, who for the purposes of this mod, are everyone who had a beef with the Empire. Same with AVALANCHE from VII. Basically I threw in everybody openly opposed to Shinra, which is why AVALANCHE has Wutai and Fort Condor on its city list.

One of the UU ideas I had for the Vector Empire is the Magitech airforce and Magitech armor. I've also got a few more ideas for Windhurst UU's while searching through screenshots to find a good Windhurst BG for the Sybil LH. I'm going to make the Cardians (magical warrior/worker automatons that the taru-taru in Windhurst build) myself, using Bryce. They are farily simple in design, but look pretty darn cool. I've even got a pic for ya:

Well, I could create a city-list from scratch. All that is required is a general feel of Baron's culture, which If I remember from the last time I played FF4, had a Germanic-Russian feel to it. I'll try and avoid making it element themed(Baron is an element lol) or nobility themed(Baron is also a title of nobility).

If you need info on FFV, I can dig it up. Also, Delita should be the leader of Ivalice, since
Spoiler :
he ends up becoming king in the end
.

Once I get started on units for the FFT Mod, you should see if you can use any of them. Maybe we could get some sort of unit-swap going; you've got some nice resource graphics and leaderheads.
