Final Fantasy Mod Progress Updates, Part II

He's coming along slowly... especially with work. It takes almost 3 days to do just one animation. Not to mention that I've recently discovered George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire saga.....

I do have the fortify and victory animations done, and will be starting on the attack soon. I hope to have this unit done by the end of this week. Also, I'd like to include a big thank you to Kinboat for his Poser Chocobo model, with which I will soon start on the various Chocobo units (most likely the Chocobo knight, since I have Kinboat's paperdoll knight figure and all I have to do is put him on the chocobo's back). I'll also be working on the Galbadian Ironclad hovertank soon as well, since I can make that model really easily in Bryce. Somewhere between the units, I'll be working on the Grand Duke Kam'lanaut Leaderhead......

Don't worry, though, work on the mod is still progressing. I also recently incorporated the high-res Shinra logo on the space-race screen, and fixed a minor error with the middle ages science advisor screen.

Hey Hikaro, I went back and started reading this thread again as I'm a big FF fan myself. I saw that you wanted to put the civilization from FF:CC in, but you didn't know what the Princess's name was, so I decided to pop in FF:CC into the GC to investigate. Her name is Fiona (kinda like in Shrek :crazyeye: ). When you go to the city of Alfitaria and talk to the 3 women standing together, the Yuke mentions that the missing princess is named Fiona and she is Half-Lilty and Half-Clavat. It's a pity you can't actually go into the castle and meet the Lilty King or have a closer relationship with the princess, but you do get to meet her a couple of times in a sidequest. I can't remember exactly what she looks like at the moment as I'm not quite up to the sidequest yet and it's been a little while since I've beaten the game all the way through. I do know she looks more like a Clavat than a Lilty. Maybe I'll try to get a picture of her.

I've also corrected your MGL, SGL, and City List for Alfitaria to make it more accurate:

Civilization: Alfitaria
Leader: Princess Fiona
Traits: Agricultural, Religious, Expansionist (No change here as your original traits were dead on)

MGL:
Knocfelna
Sol Racht
Leon Esla
Hana Kohl
Dah Yis
Rolf Wood
Cecil
Tristan

SGL:
Roland
Amidatty
De Nam
Stiltzkin
Hurdy
Rucklier
Chantari

Cities:
Alfitaria
Tipa
River Belle
Marr's Pass
Iron Mine Downs
Shella
Tida
Veo Lu
Fields of Fum
Mine of Cathuriges
Conall Curach
Rebena Te Ra
Rebena Plains
Mushroom Forest
Kilanda
Leuda
Lynari Isle
Mag Mell
Moschet Manor
Kutliema
Jegon River
Selepation Cave
Mount Vellenge

UU's: - I pretty much agree with most of your choices
Lilty Knight - Short armored guy with a big spear/lance
Clavat Mage or Clavat Swordsman - They were pretty equal at both swordfighting and magic
Selkie Thief - Most Selkies were either thieves or merchants
Yuke Wizard - This one is kind of a tough one as Yukes don't look like normal humans, but very powerful with magic

I know a lot more about this civ if you need anymore info for it as I've pretty much have mastered FF:CC. :)

Chris85,

Thanks for the Info, Man!! I'll just see about adding this civ right away. I've already got Aaglo's Hobbit Gaffer downloaded for use as the Lilty Lancer. I've also sorta got something in mind for the CLavat dude as well.... I may end up going with a Selkie theif/Ninja and use something like Kindred's Amazon warrior princess or the C3C assassin/spy from the Medieval conquest. I was going to do some more work on the Shinra SOLDIER, however my cat came down with an upper-respritory infection and I had to go to the vet's after work.

I do, however have a screenshot from the latest game where I was testing one of the more recent civs added to the game; the Sassoons from FF III. This pic was taken after I'd successfully brokered a trade of gems for herbs with Alexandria.

Okay, I've added Alfatiria to the game, as well as its three UU's; the Clavat Red Mage (5,6,1 w/bombardment) which upgrades to the Selkie Thief (8.8.1, bombardment and stealth attack), and the Liltie Dragoon (18.16.2, Blitz and Lethal Bombardment). These units replace the Gladiator (5.5.1), Lancer (8.8.1, bombarment) and Dragoon (16.16.1, blitz and lethal bombarment) respectively. I'm also posting a preview of the Princess Fiona LH I'm working on to see if anyone has any objections before I animate and render it.

Believe it or not, I actually found a picture of Princess Fiona. Even though you can't see it in the picture, she has one of those flower petal things on the top of her head that the Lilties have. I must say Hikaro's version wasn't bad for not knowing what she looked like.

Well, the Beehive hairdo is the closest thing I've got, but I've changed the color of the hair and her eyes to match, and am re-rendering the LH.

EDIT: turns out I DO have a hair prop that's almost perfect, and I'll release the new version tomorrow:

Hikaro Takayama, you are my hero. Your work is phenomenal. That is the only way to explain your dedication and talent.
I have booked marked this thread, and will now eagerly await your updates.
It has been awhile since you have asked for any help; personally, I know just about every detail in FF6 and FFT. If I can help this project in any way, don't hesitate to ask.
Keep up the incredible work, and make sure you get some rest....

I too know most everything from ff 1-6, including the jap-only ones. Ask, if you want, and ye shall recieve.

I do want to say that, having read this thread from the beginning, your latest garnet is 100x better than it was before. Keep up the good work.

Well, I'll be needing some help with FF II here soon. I've already got plans for FF I, with the civs being based on 8-bit theater (with Thief leading the Light Warriors and Garland leading the Dark Warriors), and will be using Kinboat's Paper doll Man to come up with the ultimate in weaponology: SWORD-CHUCKS, YO! I've started working on the attack animation for the Shinra SOLDIER, and may include a magic attack animation as well. Hopefully I can get that guy done this weekend, if not earlier. I've also started work on the Al Bhed Machina Hunter (or should I call the unit a Scavenger), which is based on the Al Bhed salvage crews. The Scavenger (or Machina Hunter, can't decide what to call it yet) will replace the Marine for the Al Bhed and have the ability to stealth attack mechanized units and "salvage" (enslave) said units into Death Machines (normally only heavy mech units have this ability), as well as a slightly increased defense.

here's a quick preview of the current working version (Blue is the civ colored areas, which, since the Al Bhed use color #3 (gold), will make her look like a typical Al Bhed from FF X).

No, just Civ III Conquests; My internet connection is too fuggin' slow to download the latest patch. :gripe:

BTW, I've already re-named the ICBM to Meteor, and now that I've got the graphics done, I've added them to the game.

nooooooooooooo i dot have conquests i only have the original civ3

Wow, I just noticed this, but man, I want it BAD!

Just some opinions and suggestions:

1. The Cloud leaderhead looks a bit young. Personally, I think he looks a lot more like Marche from FFTA, rather than Cloud.
2. If you're building a civ from 8-bit theater, maybe the Light Warriors ought to have a 'Hadoken Black Mage' UU.

I own Dawn of Souls, I can get info for FFII, if you need it.

Well, Seig, I was working on a Black Mage color conversion of Kindred's Wizard, however, I may just use Kinboat's Paperdoll man with this morphing witch/wizard hat I found on Renderosity to make my own Black Mage unit, and just C&P the fireball attack from MRTN's mage unit. As for CLoud, I like him the way he is, and won't be changing him. I've carefully analyzed the model I used and the concept art from the game/FMV shots, and aside from the hair, there is less than a 2% difference in the faces.

As for the FF II info, Bring it on! I'll be adding II civs once I get my current unit and LH projects done. I'll also be working on the Industrial tech tree soon.

In other news, I actually played a playtest game to the finish (space race victory), and thoroughly gave the units a shakedown. Problems that I found and subsequently addressed were:

1. I somehow accidently deleted the Attack C animation for the Advanced Airship, so I had to re-render it to fix that problem.
2. The Sassoon Magic Knight had no attack sounds, so I made some for it.
3. Created a full suite of sounds for all of the spider units (which I'll be posting in Kinboat's spider thread) from the Head crab sounds from Half Life.
4. Increased the frequency of Makou Cannon generation of the Weapons dev. program, since I had to wait some 30 turns to get one cannon, and I barely got to use it before the space race victory.
5. I tested the Meteor unit in-game for the first time, and it worked beatifully, however the units_32 pcx had a few civ-color issues that needed addressing.
Boosted the stats for the Marine, and will be changing the graphics for the Industrial Marine, since that particular look fits the FF universe better.

In addition, I've added the following:

Alfitaria, with all of its UU's
The Ragnarok for Estar
The Shinra SOLDIER

Current priority projects for the mod:

1.Finish the Galbadian Ironclad hovertank, and finish the Grand Duke Kam'lanaut LH for Jueno (which will finally get all of my LHs caught up).
2. Start animation work on the Lindblum Aviator and/or AL Bhed Machina Hunter, so that I can have at least one UU for Lindblum/finish up the AL Bhed.
3. Finalize the Industrial era tech tree & work on Modern era tech tree
4. Get BLDG & pedia Icons done for the Alexandria Castle, Dollet Comm Tower, Black Materia and Bugenhagen's Observatory Great Wonders, and all graphics for the Rin's Travel Agency, Zidane's Voyage, Dr. Gast's Laboratory, Dr. Odine's theories, Sorceress Memorial, and Lunatic Pandora Laboratory great wonders.
5. Get graphics done for and/or implement the Bone Village GW, Moogle Forest, White Materia, Citizen's Militia and Shinra Building Small Wonders, and Archaeological dig city improvements as well as remove irrelavent city improvements such as the SAM battery (which has no purpose since FF mod has no actual air units for it to shoot down).

Alright, I'll get you the info. I'll just need some time to... uh... research! *goes to play FFII*

just joined this site and found your thread...i am avid C3C player and have my own clan in cases my league ladder...i look forward to your completion of this mod a few of us are really excited to play it....sometimes the same old thing gets boring...a few of my clan mates are beta testing civ4 maybe u will be able to do this mod in civ4...i have been told the editor is a lot easier to use...if u need anyone to test this mod i would be happy to help...or any questions about the editor i will try to help...btw do you have a target completion date

LRP: I don't pan on doing this mod in Civ IV until A) I can tell if Civ IV is going to suck or not (my gut insticts say it's going to suck almost as bad as Master of Orion III), B) Providing condition A is met, all the expansion packs must be released, C) someone must come up with a user-friendly editor, since me and programming languages don't mix, and D) I must be able to import all the units and stuff directly into Civ IV, since this is far too much work to have to do all over again. I will put you down for beta testing this mod, once It gets to that point, and as for a release date, I'm not setting one, since it is well known that release dates (prior to 95% completion) are bad luck and will most likely not be met. I'm hoping for sometime around Christmas, although this is a rather optimistic estimate.

I am, however about halfway finished with the Galbadian Iron Clad hovertank, and will be working on some other units soon, as well as finishing up the grand duke Kam'lanaut LH in the near future. Things in RL have been kicking my schedule around, though, so I'll just do the best I can.

I've been watching this mod chugging along for a while and I just wanna say
Hikaro Takayama you're doing an absolutely FANTASTIC job. The graphics look gorgeous and the ideas I've read for how it's gonna work sound marvelous. :goodjob: Defintely one to look out for! I've always thought FF would lend itself quite well to a turn based civ style stragey game but you've ran with it. Power to you! I'm no good with graphics but if I can help in any way I will. Keep it up!
