Pardon me for making the thousandth thread on this, but I finally managed a pre-1700 sushi win - with Willem. Turn 675, or t225 on normal speed, for comparison; 1560AD. Marathon, monarch, archipelago, snaky continents. I knocked out Gandhi and Friedrice (on the other continent) pretty early, and later Lincoln with cannons. GLH and Colossus were downright broken on this map while they lasted, especially with such a powerful leader as Willem...
Sushi founded ~760AD with research to corps after libbed medicine, railroad ~905AD to found Mining immediately. At first I completely crashed my economy spreading with execs, and wondered whether it was even worth it, but it soon paid dividends as 20+ extra food and production in every city meant I could whip every 10 turns at most and hard-build things in a time that would've been standard for normal speed. At the end, despite the ridiculous maintenance, I was raking in well over 5000 bpt and still stayed with positive GPT - though Forbidden Palace and Versailles did help.
Now I'm no @WastinTime , but this is still the fastest I've ever gotten a space win, including even the Ethiopia game that I played just before, and I'm pretty darn proud of it. I really think corps instead of SPs were the right call here - the game speed meant execs could move anywhere near instantaneously in comparison, there were enough corp resources to make them worth it, there wasn't enough food to sustain a pure caste+SP workshop hammer economy, and corps literally enabled me to grow and build up infrastructure three times as fast - sushi whipping and mining building made industrializing feel like, again, normal speed.
If anyone feels like taking a look at my save...what can I improve on? I know I could've conquered more but by 1000AD I no longer wanted to spend the effort moving my units around, and at any rate wasn't sure if the extra maintenance would've been worth it, as well as also not wanting to go over the dom limit.
Overall: very fun, and a super welcome change from the SP drudgery I'm used to. The micro wasn't as bad as I thought; I lost myself in it at one point. Fish/10 would play again
. On the other hand, I can finally get some rest now...
