I want to meet someone who's last name is Cheese. That sounds like a cool last name.

John Cleese's (the british comedian) family name was Cheese, but his father changed it to Cleese since he thought it sounded silly.

These statistics are for the US. Do you know a site for the entire world? or europe?

For what its worth, here's one for Denmark. (choose 'Names')
Doesn't give rankings though, only absolute numbers.

@Lord_Vetinari: Is that true about Cleese?

That's me, George Drumer. Used to be von Drumer, but my family on my dad's side dropped the 'von' when they came to the UK after WWII. Not a good idea to be a 'von' at that time ;)

I'm named after my father Jerzy, which is Polish for George.

We think Drumer is originally Swedish, we also think that way back when, we had a Swedish mercenary great-great-something who must have moved around a bit. But we are not too sure. He may just as well have been a travelling Tunisian sock merchant.

Also, if you try and Google it, you mainly get people who can't spell 'drummer' so not much help there!

So when you post, tell us about your name and how you came by it. Makes it a little more interesting. :)

Peter is the #43 most common male name.
0.381% of men in the US are named Peter.
Around 466725 US men are named Peter!

I get the feeling that the bottom statistics (i.e., "Around 1275 US females are named Peter!") is just a way of covering their butts in case some female named Peter gets ticked when the website says "There are no females named Peter! Obviously, your parents either wanted a boy, or need professional help."
