"Fire" Developer Diary

I realize that I'm replying many many pages after the original post, but...

We haven't made a hell victory for two reasons:
1. No way to track which AV civ did the most to help armegeddon.
2. When the counter reaches 100% the AV civs would have to try very hard in order to NOT win.
Wouldn't just Sheiam win if the entire world were covered in hell?

I mean, Hyborem does spread hell, but (as I understand it) spreading hell isn't his goal so much as a consequence of his attempts to accomplish his goal.

Congratulations for your great work. Unfortunatly I am travelling and will play the FfH Fire only in March. But I have some questions:

The Elohim gain any bonus from a low Armaggedon counter as the Sheaim gain from a high counter?

No, the game remains "normal" when the counter is low. At least for now thats the only reward.

How the Armaggedon Spells work with the Armaggedon Counter mechanic?

They are automatically triggered when it gets to a certain number the first time.

There is new Armaggedon Spells?

I dont think so. More may come later.

Why the team discarded the two maps idea? It was great and the with that the scouting could continue in the late game.

Couldnt get it to work in any fashion that was acceptable.

There is any new religion planned for the Fire phase?

I dont know, a religion dedicated to Bhall is in the design doc with a question mark, but i dont know if it will make it or not.

Some months ago someone spoke about a mechanic to banish a religion from the game, i believe there was something about avatar-killing and Holy City raids. There was something like that? If yes, it is still planned?

Probably, The first version wont have this. But I expect as we move forward (assuming the feedback on the good vs evil war is all good) we will add features like this.

Which new spheres will be included in the Fire phase?

The Air sphere is in.

Only fire and ice elemental attacks have any side effects?

Sorta, fire attacks and creatures passing through tiles can start tiles smoking. Ice creatures passing through smoking tiles put them out.

Any news about the flyibg mechanic?

No.

Anything changed in the plans for "Shadow" and "Ice" in the Fire phase development?

Yeah, we brainstorm pretty widely. Some ideas were good for and some got pushed to the feature list for Shadow.

No, there won't be 21 religions in the game, this was already stated. A few more will eventually come some day. I guess the team will try to maintain a parity between good/neutral/evil religions. This would mean btw that the first additional religion should be neutral. There is currently 2 good 2 evil but only 1 neutral religion.

21?! holy snotlings!

Actually.. What if there wasn't a lot of extra techs, but instead when you researched a tech which would give you a religion - the religion you recieved was based upon alignment/othertechs/whatever other factors? Then it wouldn't be hard to come up with 21 Religeons -- without overly increasing the width of the tech-tree.

It's been considered, but as I understand it, it would add unneeded complexity. Kael & Co. are already making it so that discovering a religion tech will get you a disciple, right?

To get 21 holy snotlings, you'll have to be allied with Basium, and have 21 snotlings killed under your command, then they'll be transfered to his ownership as holy snotlings.

Please, someone go tell the team that...

TODAY IS FRIDAY 16th!!!

It is, it is not??? Well well, I didn't know...

Kael,

Quick question on the mechanics of fire. With Basium and Hyborem, can you technically have more than 18 players in the game? Say you set up a game with 18 players and later the requirements are met for Hyborem and Basium to enter the world. Does that effectively give you 20 players plus Barbarians?

Ha!!! that makes two of us already knowing today is friday!

We want Fire!!!

Is it Friday already? But when on Friday??? We need to know what hour on Friday ASAP!!!! How many hours in Fri ...? Please help me!!!!!!!

Is anything going to be done with the Cult of the Dragon? Currently, the only thing it seems to do is kill my Great Prophet tech popping. . . and the AI seems to like it even less than I do.

Also
Archmages and Fellowship priests and high priests. There is a lot of focus on good and evil in "Fire", moving Druids to Neutral only gave neutral players a nice perk.

Does that mean the Harlequin-->Druid unit is dead, even if they convert to Fellowship?

What would be the unique propertys of Bhall religion? Maybe it could be production? When I think fire, I think forges; when I think forges, I think production. Maybe presence in a civ can give you 1 hammer, the temple gives you another maybe? The temple could increase the amount of hammers you receive from chopping wood by say 30%, instead of giving a happness for insence. I think that would be cool, until you acount for the holy site. 1 hammer for each city with Bhall's religion could be a unfare boost, to say the least. I mean the Clan already gets dirt cheap units, a production religion could mean goblins breeding like bunnies.

No. The 18 civ limit is still in place. There is a check that makes sure there is a free slot before hyborem or basium are created, and if their isnt they don't happen (ie: limit yourself to 16 civs in fire).
