It's driving me crazy. When i open it my CPU usage jumps up. Then, very very very very frequently it freezes on me.. Can anybody help me? I'd say it freezes 2-3 times a day on me.
BTW I'm only running Trillian and Winamp in the backround.

Firefox only uses around 35,000KB for me. Are you sure your computer is free of spyware and adware? You see to have a history of freezing and rebooting computers from what I've read.

My freezing happened before I upgraded to XP, but I havn't had a spyware check for months.

I dunno, I have Win98SE and I don´t have any kind of problems. Also, i have FreeRAM XP Pro running -that really helps-.

Firefox varies a lot. For me it's at 20,000KB for me now.

It can't be Firefox. Nobody ever has problems with Firefox. It also can't be spyware/adware, cause Firefox blocks all of that.

Should I be worried that firefox is using only 3000 KB right now?

It can be firefox. I have problems with firefox.
Any time I open it, it ends up "Not Responding". It frequently crashes, and when I view certain pages they screw up.

Yes, it is Firefox's bidding. Bastard browser sometimes sucks up my CPU like crazy. On Firebird 0.7, I took a screenshot of it using 98% of my CPU. Yseterday it was up in the 90% or thereabouts, and i had to shut down the darn browser to free my computer up.

Right now my Firefox use 87 megs or RAM and it rarely ventures below 40 megs. I have noticed that it under cirtain circumstances hogs the CPU, particularily when viewing images.

Well, really, the only problem I´ve got is that some images, and only in CFC, aren´t shown, so that´s a little annoying, but, well, what can you do about it? i open the page again with IE 5.0 and then switch back to Firefox, so I´m none the worse for it.
Still, I´d recommend Firefox to all those using dial-up conncetions. It is much faster. Also, you should download FreeRAMXPPro. It really helps balancing RAM usage and CPU resources. The combo works superbly (at least with 512 MB RAM ;) but I usually also have Winamp -Deep Purple+Sex Pistols, of course-, Steph´s SBB, Flicster, Civ3Edit and Minesweeper running in the background-

With XP, Firefox is kinda slow, but no way in heck am I using Internet Exploder. In Linux, which I am usually in, Firefox works like a dream. No problems in Linux with Firefox, nosiree.

That being said, I use Firefox on Ubuntu 5.04 because, well, I'm not sure if there is a different Web Browser for linux, although I bet there is. But, for Ubuntu 5.10, there is a new Web Browser called Epiphany, which is supposed to be MUCH faster then Firefox, and I have heard raving reviews for. Not sure if it is available for non-Linux though . . .

*waits impatiently for Ubuntu 5.10 release*

Maybe you should run a few checks using various anti-spyware programs. See what they show up.

For me, FF is using about 84k atm, although it only gets closed when I reboot my pc, and that might happen once a week. ;) I run 2 instances of mirc, winamp, firewall, anti-virus, and I manage to play wow for several hours all without ff taking up large chunks of cpu usage or crashing or anything. So yeah, it must be something with the hardware or conflicts somewhere or something in your pc, and not with firefox.

as padma said, epiphany is hardly a new browser. It's based on the Gecko-Engine just as Firefox, so I guess the differences are minimal (I have it installed on my gentoo-installation, but I hardly ever use it).

As for other Browsers under Linux. Apart from the two mentioned there's of course Opera, then there's another Gnome-Browser Galeon, which is based on Gecko as well.

Oh. Figures that Epiphany would be out for a long time. Hrmf, I guess I am still a bit new to all this Linux stuff.

I've never bothered to switch from Firefox, since it is nice and zippy in Ubuntu, but apparently some at the Ubuntu Forums say that Epiphany runs MUCH faster on the newest version of Ubuntu, 5.10, which I've yet to get since the final release has not been released, and I'm not about to spend precious time installing an unstable release that might not work. I'll tell you guys how it runs when I get it going though ;)
