....to make better Modern ships, please!!

Destroyers looks like tugboats next to Frigates, and Battleships look like a Destroyer that's just an 1/8 of an inch longer. :thumbdown
Both need to be bigger and look stronger.

Not to mention you cannot see Transports when in cities, they blend in with the city too much to be seen.

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\Art

Civ4ArtDefines_Unit XML

Make a backup copy of that original XML file. Edit it, find the destroyer and battleship section.

change the scale. It's the first number that apears after each name. I'm unable to use civ4 right now but if you increase it from the number it is originally it should just increase the size of the ship.

fool around with it. You can see the results simply by going ingame and using the the world editor to plop down a few ships.

Good luck.

I played Kay-el's Double Your Pleasure mod for a long time. Does anyone know if he'll do another one for CIV4?

Okay, Mod the scale of the Destroyer to 1.0 and the Battleship to 1.2

The are MUCH better. If you want you can increase the size of the sub a bit too as it looks much smaller in comparison. The transport is fine as is. It's very smaller than the other two but it looks fine. Makes sense.

Only problem I notice is that if you ride Towards the land and stop, the front your ship will glitch into the landscape. Not a big problem really.

Everything else is go.

Try it out and see how it looks.

Does anybody know if editing these XML files will affect multiplayer ?

Does editing any one of the XML files cause a problem with sync or is it just certain XML files ?

For example, I edited some of the characteristics of one of the civs (just testing :p ) to start with 2 settlers and an extra strong unique unit.

Understandably, in multiplayer all the players got a warning on their screens (SYNC ERROR or something, and telling them that their XML files were different from the host). Which is good, otherwise multiplayer would be a farce.

So, this leads to my question:

Q : Does changing minor things like the scale of the graphics cause SYNC ERRORS, or not ?

Just change it and save it into customassets.

Edit: Can someone post the default values for battleship and destroyer scale? Was the destroyer .6 and the battleship 1?

the desyroyer is .6 and the battleship was .7
