Howdy y'all, just got my first win on Deity. I started as Augustus of Rome. Expanded too hard against Himiko's Khmer and Techmseh's Mississippians, then lost a few cities to rebellions during the Crisis (which was genuinely awesome, IMO). Completed the military/expansion tree, then transitioned into Spain and immediately set about exploring the new world.
Completely bungled it! I think one whole treasure fleet got home despite my best intentions, but I put my main new world city one tile inland and they couldn't walk the spices over to a boat I guess.
And I couldn't let my old rebel cities languish under foreign rule, so I spent most of this era warring to get them back, and maybe take a little extra, just because...
Transitioned into the modern era as America having gotten about zero(!) era quest points whatsoever, let alone any golden eras. Took an Economic Dark Age bonus to push as hard as I could towards my planned economic victory.
With about a third of the industrialized world under the American banner, this was truly our century to shine. No need for war when you are the very avatar of industry and liberalism. Didn't realize that my settlements, not my cities, were going to be the main driver for factory goods, but once I did I completed the 500 req. very quickly.
Adam Smith then went on a would tour, establishing BoAs in every major capitol, and making the dollar king.
All in all, pretty damn fun! The first two eras were challenging, but with so much land under our control at the start of the modern era, America had no competitors who could stop or even slow our economic victory. I think history ended around 1882, and it would've been faster if I had known where the last two capitols were.
And now I'm already thinking about my next run. Any advice for how to win on Deity going Tall instead of Wide? I'm picturing maybe Han/King/Qing stacking science? Thanks!
