First great prophet spawn

So in one of my games as Rome I tried to get a religion with God of War and multiple shrines. I did actually get the last great prophet before a turn another Civ would get one. I wanted to get Divine Inheritance and use my cap as the holy city, however my GP spawned in one of my other cities. That means that now I have to walk him all the way to my cap. Except if I do that I miss out on creating a religion. All my cities were creating the same amount of faith (only shrines were available).
I don't know how the current system works but if it just picks a city by random then I think it should be changed. There was no opportunity to play more efficiently or make better decisions in my example.
Maybe let us choose where the first GP spawns, or let us secure a religion just by getting the GP and not actually having to use him.

My recollection is that it's not random, but the city which produced the most faith. This tends to be the capital, which would explain why the capital is the holy city more than 15-25% of the time.

Then why did he spawn in a different city? My cap was the first city to make a shrine as well.

I think its random, but weighted more heavily towards cities with more faith output. One thing you can do is the turn before the prophet spawns, have other cities not work their faith tiles. I remember doing this once when I had a faith natural wonder, and it causes the great prophet to be in my capital. As for not getting your prophet, that's part of the game. You have to adapt to less than ideal circumstances

Side note, Divine Inheritance strikes me as an odd choice for Rome. Its great for tall tradition empires though

Don't have the save. If I recall correctly there were no luxury resources producing faith. That means my only source of faith is killing and shrines. So am I to delete my shrines in my other cities one turn before great prophet?

That's crap. Adapting implies there's a way to make better choices in your games. The current system doesn't allow that in my example.

Sure it does. Get your shrines up faster (and I'll bet that's possible), and you would have had the option of walking the GP over to the capital. Or, as Crazy G noted, pick a better pantheon.

Doesn't change the fact that even if the player were to play in the most optimal way (and God of War could be optimal if you use raging barbarians, then the only source of faith is shrines and killing) there's still no way to control where your GP spawns in my example.
So basically the player is left with deleting his shrines a turn before spawn.

Get your prophet earlier. If you played with raging barbs and God of War, but multiple AI beat you to a religion you sure weren't playing the most optimal way

Why are you even taking Divine Inheritance with Rome? Everything about that civ wants to have a lot of cities, Divine Inheritance only benefits one. Take something else and you'll be better off. Unless you took tradition with Roman God of War, but just why?

What I do with my religion isn't the point.
I don't got much else to say about playing optimally or not. I could also give you an extreme example where you spam cities, invest in shrines and spam archers to farm the barbs and still lose out because your GP didn't spawn where you wanted him to, but I don't think that will satisfy you.
So currently the system to control where your GP spawns is stop working faith producing tiles and deleting your shrines/other faith producing buildings.

The system isn't designed to let you control where great prophets appear. They usually appear wherever the faith production is the highest, which makes complete sense. Appearing in the capital, or in the city of your choosing, don't make sense.

If you want the holy city to be somewhere other than where the GP was born, you move him at your risk. If you tried to walk him over when only 1 religion remained, you made a dumb move, don't try and blame the mechanics.

I hopefully won't be in a situation where I need to move him since I'll probably be deleting my shrines beforehand (bad mechanics IMO).
"They usually appear wherever the faith production is the highest, which makes complete sense. Appearing in the capital, or in the city of your choosing, don't make sense." Explain this? How does the player get opportunities to play better? For example lets say in one of my games the most optimal way to make a religion is to use desert resource tiles to farm faith. Except my cap doesn't have many of those, but I can send out a settler to a nearby area which has plenty. But I want my cap to be my holy city. How does it increase the skill cap of having my GP not spawn where I want him to?

Code:
int iBestWeight = 0;

            int iTempWeight;

            CvCity* pLoopCity;
            int iLoop;
            CvGame& theGame = GC.getGame();
            for(pLoopCity = kPlayer.firstCity(&iLoop); pLoopCity != NULL; pLoopCity = kPlayer.nextCity(&iLoop))
            {
                iTempWeight = pLoopCity->GetFaithPerTurn() * 5;
                iTempWeight += theGame.getJonRandNum(15, "Faith rand weight.");

                if(iTempWeight > iBestWeight)
                {
                    iBestWeight = iTempWeight;
                    pBestCity = pLoopCity;
                }
            }

Thanks for the code. However I'm illiterate with it. I tried reading it over and over again but I don't get it.

Translation. It chooses the city with the most faith production the turn the prophet appears.
Thanks. So how does it choose if all the cities are making the same amount of faith?
Also in my example to control where I want him to spawn I need to delete shrines. Anyone else feels the mechanic needs to be changed somehow or is it just me?

It would choose the earliest city first (assuming they are ordered by founding).
Are you sure? Because then if a tie occurs the capital should always get the great prophet, which isn't the case. I'm also pretty sure I've had a prophet appear in a city which wasn't the highest faith output (though its definitely the more common location)

I hopefully won't be in a situation where I need to move him since I'll probably be deleting my shrines beforehand (bad mechanics IMO).
If you choose to delete shrines in order to change your Holy City's location you are massively overreacting. Just relax and take one of the many founder beliefs where holy city location isn't that important.

That's just it. I've had him spawn in one of my outer cities, even though my cap built shrine first, while using God of War.

So you're saying I should play the rest of my game with a suboptimal founder belief while the one I actually want is potentially available just to not have to build shrines again in my other cities?
