Hi there, regular gotm players! I downloaded yesterday the gotm for the first time. I red about it already a few years ago, but I never had time to participate. So it will be my first time. I´m a civ fanatic about 10 years already. I´m getting old! I played it a lot of times and you can imaging I know how to win the game. But I´m quiet impressed with some ending dates I saw in the results. So I played two games trying to end as quickly as possible with the conquest victory (actually the only one I like). I played on the highest level (I think it´s called deity) with 7 civs on a small map. I ended the first game in 1913 and the second in 1856. You think I make a chance to beat anyone of you or I need to practice some years more in solitary!

Greetings.

Welcome to CFC and GOTM, waarzegger! No need to practice in "solitary" (unless you really are behind bars!), we love more participants!

For Early Conquest, you really want Restarts OFF (GOTM #35 has them ON, #34 had them OFF). IF they are on you cannot win before 1500 (some debate on the exact date) even if you wipe out all the civs at the same time.

The "trick" to getting the really early conquest dates is often by exploiting Marco Polo's Embassy. Build it, trade maps with the AI civs, then hunt them down as quickly as possible. Getting to Monarchy and PolyTheism is usually all that is really necessary (plus Trade for MPE and Maps for ships). I've seen conquest dates before 1AD; my personal best is around 200AD. The down side of this is that your Reputation will take a BIG hit...

Welcoms as well.

I think that Smash has posted some early conquest victories even with the restarts on. I think that a civ needs something like 6? open tiles to have enough space for a respawn, but won't start the city if another unit is too near. So one may have to found a few extra cities to stifle the respawning.

(I saw a post where there was a small 6-7 tile island with three different colored settlers standing around.) :rotfl:

Thanks for the tips! But so far I don´t have these problems because my tactic consist of only buying cities and it is imposible to buy their last capital city. And I never passed over to really go into batlle before 1500. So i never really had the problem of restarting civs! End i don´t have them with this gotm because I,m in 16xx ad and I have a lot of conquest ahead. Don´t think I will end before 1900. I now have the big problem that the french and the babylonians are democracies and I can´t buy more cities of them. I usually play small maps. So I´m not very used to the big map. I forgot to built the lighthouse (i had the oportunity)! And I spend to many money on the russians. Should have bought more french cities to stop their progress. I´m facing a long war with the French and Babylonians. It´s been a while, and I needed some training in that, I suppose!

If you are set on conquest, switch to Fundy and attack. Build up your Treasury and wait for the AI civ to feel the pressure. If they have Fundy or Commie they will often switch out of Democracy in order to improve their military. When that happens, send out the Spies...
