Fix-It List

Okay I think something is wrong with my _Civ4Config file. It doesn't even have the option to turn off in-game movies, which is bad because my system often stalls or crashes.

Both the one in the normal Civ4 folder and Warlords folder are the same.
 
After patch 1.61, turning off in-game movies is no longer an ini file option. Movies can be switched off under graphic settings in-game.
 
I'm afraid I am going to have to get a new video card. Please tell me I don't.Please.

I installed Civ 4 and Warlords(I got them together). I installed it, and started the game. As it was loading the XML/Engine, it gave me an error message that says Creation Failed:Invalid 3D Device Type. Althoguh I cant be sure exactly what graphics card I have, its from the Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family(w/e is standard for a dimension E310). I have the most updated drivers, and I just got this computer. Is there anything more I can do?
 
I Bought Civ IV Maybe A Year Or Two Back And Now I Lost 2 Of my cd and was wondering if it was a way to down load the game to my computer i still have the cd keycode but no cds so if its a way can some one message me at Ogkilla16@msn.com thanks:)

Yeah. You should follow these steps to enable logging: http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_logging.htm. Note: the link applies to Civ4 (not warlords). You'll have go to a different folder for warlords ini file. Then post the init.log.

Your card should run Civ. Not great, but still.
 
I NEED HELP CLEARING MY GAME CACHE!!! I can't seem to find where the game cache exists! I tried following the path listed on the first page but that hits a dead end at the "My Games" folder because that folder doesn't exist for me. I am running Windows XP SP2. Please help b/c I think this may help me fix my game crahing problem. If this doesn't work then I have no hope left because I've tried EVERYTHING else (downloaded and installed the 4.12 driver, defragmented my drive, my ATI 9000 is operating at 128 MB now, ....)!
 
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I recently bought Warlords and I'm using that now, but i'm still having same exact problems as in Civ 4.

Like I said before, the path listed on the first page didn't work because I don't have a "My Games" folder like he lists. I didn't find any other remedies either.
 
Game will not load because d3dx9_26.dll is missing

I found and downloaded this...all you have to do is find the file on their site (easy), download it, unstuff it, and copy and paste it into your Windows/System folder!

If you get the message "Please load correct dvd/cd", just remember that you need to start the game from the location that you installed it.

@Galactus - No version of Civ 4 requires a serial number, cd key, or anything similar. It relies on having the original disk in the drive for security.
 
i cant install civ4 anymore!

i first encountered this error when i tried to install warlords:

showed up 0.5s after installation started.
fine, i think and try to reinstall civ4 and warlords afterwards. civ4 deinstalled (really everything), reinstall and BAM: exactly the same error.

this is really freaking me out! i already installed civ4 successfully, cant think of a reason why it doesnt work anymore. some got a fix for this (i already searched the forum...).


edit: found solution... kinda embarassing
i had still had daemon tools installed. didnt notice for a long time because it was deactivated, no entry in start menu and so on. well, deinstalled and voila: everything was fine.
but i think they couldve done a proper error message which says no emulating stuff allowed or sth...
anyway, im happy now ^^

i have tried to install civ 4 now a few times and just at the end of the install i keep getting an error message it reads

error: data error (cyclic redundancy check)

can anyone help please

Hi all, i dont know if anyone else has had this problem installing Warlords.

I bought Civ IV from direct2drive so i have the digital version. I got the boxed Warlords at ebgames. When i try and install warlords it says Civ IV is out of date and needs to be updated but it doesnt recognize the digital version on my system and says it cant install. But the thing is, i've installed patch 1.61 from d2d (you cant use the regular patch; you have to download a special one from d2d) I've tried reinstalling the patch twice. Anyone have any ideas?
 
I hope someone still monitors this thread.

I recently bought Civ IV boxed, downloaded the v. 1.61 patch from Firaxis, and loaded both. My application Properties Version is 1.6.1.1841, so the patch seems to have installed. I haven't messed with Warlords at all.

However, the patch notes indicate that v. 1.61 had reduced the resource yield of clearing a Forest to 20 hammers, but I get 60. Others on this forum have indicated that it really should be 20. I dowloaded a new patch, and re-installed both the game and the patch, but still I get 60 hammers.

Does anyone have any idea why the change for that isn't working for me, and what I can do about it? Thanks.
 
If the hammers are going to a city which is building a wonder for which you have the appropriate resource, and you're playing an industrious civ, you should get 60 hammers under patch 1.61. You should also get at least 60 hammers for all chops if you're playing a marathon speed game, since everything takes three times as many hammers to build.
 
A lot of factors influence hammer yield. Civ 1.61 patch indeed reduced the base yield to 20, but researching Mathematics increases it by 50 % (to 30). Other factors include:
- organized religion increases production (and yield as well)
- forges, factories
- industrious trait for wonders
- various traits have a bonus like "double production speed of forges" for industrious trait, temples for spiritual (I think), etc.
Of course, game speed also modifies the hammer yield.

can anyone help, i can install civ4 and when i load it all i can see is my desktop and nothing seems to load. Please help! :sad:
