Fix-It List

HI

I updated 1.61 patch. Game crashes after 1900 AD whatever autosave period you give. But, even if i put save turn interval to 0 also, it crashes during 1200 or 1220 AD in Earth map with 1.61 patch. I use 1.61 no cd. Warlords works fine without any issues. But, general Civ 4 does not run properly. I've played until 2137 AD and all during 1.52 patch. I think some issue in 1.61 patch.

I am not sure I agree with the map size. All my games tend to crash around 1200 ad. I have played tiny with 3 civs to huge with 8 civs and it tends to crash around the same time in the game. So my problem at least does not seem to be map sized related. For reference I have 1gb of memory and 256mb on my video card (Radeon x700)

Hiya there, I'm trying to start the game and I get this:

From log files, the init one.

For some reason my dxdiag says I'm only on DX 9.0b at the start which makes no sense as I've updated. Trying to update my 1600xPro drivers atm. If this fails though, any other ideas?

Hi

Having problems starting the game says that the wrong CD is in the drive but i only have one CD can any one help!!!!

Hi

Have finally managed to download patch but now it says cannot locate DVD-rom please insert the correct DVD-rom but i only have one CD any ideas??

Ok, for some odd reason everytime I start up Civ 4 Warlords now, i get a pop-up that says "Cannot locate cd-rom. Please insert disk and restart application." The problem here is that I DO have the proper Warlords disk securly in the drive. I don't know why it won't read the game anymore. I just added 512mb of RAM a couple of days ago and ever since I've had this problem. I don't get it. PLEASE HELP!!

When you navigate to the warlords CD via My Computer, can you see the contents of the disk? When you look on the disk, can you see any scratches, grease...?

And can you run Civ4 successfully?

Yes, when I navigate from My Computer>(C:)>Program Files>Firaxis Games>Civilization 4>Warlords I can see the contents of the folders. No, the disk is clean. No, I cannot run Civilization 4 either.

I've also already tried uninstalling and re-installing both games. It hasn't helped. I just remembered something important though. Just before I started having this problem I had downloaded a NO-CD Keygen from Limewire so I didn't have to use the game disk when playing the game. The keygen was mostly written in French but it had english too. I ran the Keygen through WinRAR. The Keygen added some new files or copied something...I don't know exactly what it did....which I guess it needed to do to work. Problem here was that after doing that I tried running Warlords without the disk in the drive and I started getting the same error pop-up. So the keygen didn't work. Well ever since, the game won't run WITH the disk in the drive. I tried again the next day and still no luck. I searched for hours to try and find the folder that the keygen was in. I deleted everything I could find that had anything to do with that keygen. I even uninstalled winRAR and cleared my temporary internet files and folders. Even after doing all of this the problem remains. What do I do??

Uh-oh :) Uninstall both games once again, this time make sure to manually erase all leftover civ folders. Reinstall, try.

Also look into My Computer - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs, if you find there anything related with keygen.

Think of any other configuration changes / new software you've gotten recently (especially CD-related software) - undo/uninstall it.

If nothing works, check for viruses, spyware.

I tried Everything you listed there and I'm still getting the same error!!!!! There has to be something I can do. Thank you for trying to help though, I really appreciate it.

Desperately looking for help!!! Have just bought the Warlords extension and keep getting an error message. I can't seem to find out what to do, it's probably something very simple but I'm at a loss. Could anyone help?

The message I get reads:
Failed to allocate video memory please try reducing your graphic settings
file:/source/civilisation4/SDKs/Gamebryo2_0/CoreLibs?NiDX9Renderer.NiDX9RenderedTextureData.cpp, Line: 170

Ok folks here is a weird one for you...
I have my game first installed on my GF's dell, it worked fine. Then I switched it over to my PC (AMD AthlonXP 1.8Ghz, 512MB DRAM) due to all the time I was hogging her computer and I installed fine but it wouldn't load. I was using the onboard video and sound at the time. I figured it was time for a new Vid and Sound Card anyways, so I upgraded.
Here is my complete spec's as far as I know.
AMD AthlonXP 2200+ (1.8Ghz)
512MB DDRAM
Jetway V4MDMP Mobo
Asus nVidia N6200 256MB DDRAM Vid Card
Sound Blaster Audigy 24bit Sound Card
WinXP Home (SP2)

Still had problems, so I uninstalled the game, fully. Installed again, this time I walked through the 7 steps at the start of this forum doing each one to ensure I would solve all my graphic problems on the game. Now the game loads correctly, everything looks great except...

The units look like they are on stilts! Its a real buggy glitch. Here is a screen shot for you to see:

I am open to any ideas on this one...

Is there anybody posting on this anymore? I would really like some help in my game... been itching to play it!

Make your own thread and attach a dxdiag.txt to it. It looks like driver behavior, but you mention you worked the points on the front page of this "Fix-it" list, so it may be some other issue.

Hi Guys and Gals...

Seem to have 2 errors.. using a NVidia GeForce 5500 (PC running 4Gig Pro, 512Mb Mem, Augidy2 ZS Platinum, loadsa HDisk space), firstly things like villages, towns, farms etc dont show using any settings and secondly the game closes down the turn after 300 AD (325 AD I think?), Any suggestions? (buy a new graphics card?!, hehe)

Sorry if this has already been discussed.. been reading through pages all afternoon, I've tried the NVHardPage option but no luck...

Thanks in advance!

Hi!
My 3d video card broke, so I'll have to buy a new one. However the numbers variations like GeForce2 and GeForce 5200 confuses me, and also I don't know how to compare it with Radeon, so I am asking for your help.
I don't know if this is the proper thread, but I didn't find one that would suit better and didn't want to start a new one either.

This are the video cards I am willing to buy. Just tell if they are compatible with the game and wich one is better (between 1 and 2) please.

1-Radeon Ati 9250se 128MB DDR

2-VGA XFX 128MB Geforce 4 Fx5200 AGP

3-VGA 256MB GeForce FX5200 AGP

4-VGA Geforce 256MB FX 6200 AGP

Thank you

How much memory does the 5500 have? I know a number of people had problems with less than 128MB. I presume you followed the steps at the start of the thread?
