Hi, I am experiancing Error 5004:0x80041f42 Which occured after deleting my civ IV file before uninstalling. now my comp can't seem to uninstall it because the file can't be found.... I think .... any answers please?

Oh, and after that text appears, the program (which didnt even starts) shuts down (message comes that tells me Civ had to be closed)

There are a few possible reasons why this could occur, the first ones I can think of are:
1) the install could be corrupted and you need to do a reinstall
2) you are using a user account that has limited access rights to the required files

If you have full access rights (i.e. the error occurs when logged in as administrator as well) I would recommend uninstalling. After uninstalling you should delete the following folders IF they exist after the uninstall:
users\<name>\my games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
and
users\<name>\application data\my games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
On a German language Windows install those paths are:
\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<name>\Eigene Dateien\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
and
\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<name>\Anwendungsdaten\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
Then reinstall and patch to 1.74.

the problem occurs while uninstalling.
i wanted to uninstall and delete the files but i deleted them before uninstalling
but i want to reinstall it.

usually deleted files should still be in the bin so you might be able to just undelete them. If not:
you could delete the entry of civ4 in the registry:

Start -> Run... -> regedit

Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4

you should always make a backup copy of your registry even when making such straightforward changes (set a system recovery point in windows)...

I've just installed the game, and I have a problem.
I cannot read any fonts in the game. Can somebody help me ?

Well, I got exactly the same problem as u. N my comp is only a year old, never had problems w anything before. Got a laptop, a comopq nc 6000 w ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 (128mb) videocard n 1500mb RAM. And I cant see the videos when the game starts, and when I get to the menu, it simply isn't there. If u guys know this problem, or if it is part of a bigger problem, plz tell us what to do.

Same problem here, just the background is there and music but no menu..
2.2ghz 512mb gfx 5500 256mb, guys solve this please, im very frustrated customer, i rarely buy games and after this probably wont do it again if this is when u buy the game.

When I tried to re-download 1.74 it said I already had it. When I tried to uninstall it said setup wasn't complete and I couldn't uninstall. When I tried to run setup.exe from the disc it said I couldn't go back to an earlier version b/c 1.74 was already installed.

Since then I've deleted everything Firaxis related but it is still somehow recognizing 1.74 installed somewhere on the compy. Where can I delete this information so I can reinstall from the disc?

When I try to uninstall now it says to empty the temp folder, close other programs & check internet connection, all of which have been done following the robot advice from 2K.

Since the registry edit at least the disc now gives me the option to install before it recognizes that 1.74 is already "installed" even though all game files are gone.

Thanks again ori, I'll check when I get home. I'm fairly sure when I tried to delete that folder in InstallShield as per tech support's instructions (along with renaming them with OLD at the end) that it wasn't there. Maybe b/c of the power outage during install? But I'll check again tonight and if not maybe the regedit will work.

Hello everybody, I just registared here becouse I boughted Civ 4 yesterday and not only I began interested in Civ4 communities, but I need some help with my new patch. Now at loading it sais "Error loading shade libraries" Or something, I got my graphig card up on date and this has now only happened after I installed new patch.

Can anyone help poor soul ?

When i try to load a scenario like After World or somthing, it loads normaly at first then after turning black and making beeping sounds at me, a error pops up. It says: "Failed to Initialize Renderer, please check dricetx and screen resolutions." then it shows me a bunch of numbers and blah. People talk about the only way to fix it is to update your Graphic driver, and from past experiences that just messes up my computer. Any suggestions on how to fix this besides graphic driver update would be appreciated.

I got it... I just had to do a "Find" of Firaxis in the registry. There was a place where the current version and the add/remove programs entry was I forget exactly where. But had to delete a good number of files and it worked! Huzzah!

I did get an error during the 1.74 patch though... something about not being able to find source code I think. But the game works fine now. Thanks for the help.

This is a Safedisk problem - try updating your cd drive driver/firmware, uninstall any virtual drive and make sure the cd is in the drive
There are quite a few more things that may cause this but those are the most common ones...

Is this a custom szenario? maybe something is wrong with that particular one - does it work with the standard game?
what are the numbers?
