Fix-It List

I downloaded the patch v1.61 but an error message comes up saying i have an older version of civ IV and need to uninstall it. So i tried uninstalling the older version and recieved another error...{5004 : 0x80041f42} has occurred while running the setup. Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. I'm not sure what to do since it won't let me uninstall anything so that i can simply reinstall the game from scratch.

Dear guys.
I'm really new to this games (just bought it) and I face a common error:

"Unable to locate CD-Rom Please insert the correct ...."etc
I know this is a common error since I've seen it in the support pages of this game, but since I have a DVD rom version of this game I cannot switch between the two CD roms.

Please Help, othewise I won't experience what made you fsnstics.

Best Regards
Akisjg

How to manually uninstall Civ4 and expansion packs

Step 1
Delete Civ4 files from the hard drive. Go to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games and delete the folder Sid Meier's Civilization 4

Step 2
Delete Civ4 registry entries

First you need to access the registry
- click Start on the taskbar
- select Run...
- type regedit and click OK

I am constantly getting a problem with Civilization 4 popping an error message up usually after a sudden move of the screen(like going out of a city). The error message reads:

(failed to allocate video memory. Please try reducing your graphics settings.) Then it has the file:\Source\main\Civilization4\SDKs\Gamebryo2_0\CoreLibs\NiDX9Renderer\NiDX9VBManager.cpp, line:1019 crap.

As shown in the log below, it has this error on different lines including: 1019, 314, (565 this one is rare), and 170. This is 1/50 of the app log showing that it was out of VRAM. I noticed in the game that certain textures turned black. The scouts textures actually turned black and some furry animals on the playing area were this way also. I have a Radeon Mobility X1400 graphics card with the latest Omega drivers on on it. The drivers from the manufacturer did it this way also. I have a 6400/E1505 Dell laptop. I have the latest drivers for directx and I have 1GB RAM with 1.5GB of virtual memory. I can't play the game because it even does this on the smallest map and I haven't even built my first city yet! Sometimes it gets a little farther, but not to much at all. When I turn off the (no memory allocation) warning all the textures eventually start to disappear and it crashes to the desktop and it then says it couldn't read memory or something like that.

Hey, I don't have the most up-to-date machine, but after I got exactly the same error as you did, I reduced my graphics settings to the lowest possible levels. It did not solve the problem.

Then, I went to windowsupdate.com and installed the latest ATI drivers for my video card. I was able to play my GOTM game(the one with Zara Yaqup) without the video access error for a long time, until again much later I encountered the same error. I thought the driver update install solved it for a while, again it could be that my graphics card does not like to be run on full capacity. It definitely has to do with trying to put too much graphics on the screen.

I got no error messages towards the end of the game where I was waiting for my space ship to be built. If you reload your last save after the crash, you will most likely advance error-free.

I am unable to find those specific uninstall keys in the registry. Are there any others?

My game wont work. I took out the disk so that I could burn another CD and when I put it back in a few weeks later to play the game it gives me an error message stating "This application has failed to start because D3DX9_32.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." But when I try to re-install I get a different message and it wont let me do anything.
Does anyone have an answer so that I can get back to playing the game?
Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry I didn't see the answer in the other thread. It works great now. Thanks again.

is there any way to make it run with Vista? Its saying that the program has "known compatibility issues" and i think its a vista problem

welcome to Civfanatics :band:
I assume you are talking about Civ4 and not one of its expansions. Install the 1.61 patch, then install the 1.74 patch, then install the latest Direct X 9c from Microsoft - this will take care of most Vista problems.

Hi, I have been playing Civ 4 for some time. Recently I uninstalled and installed bts becouse of some problems. Everything works fine now, i can play the game and stuff. But when I try to install the 3.13 patch this errpr appeares:

Error Code: -5006 : 0x8000ffff
Error Information:
>SetupNew\SetupDLL.cpp (814)
PAPP:Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Beyond the Sword
PVENDOR:Firaxis Games (http://www.2kgames.com/civ4)
PGUID:32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989
$12.0.0.49985PAK
@Windows (6000) IE 7.0.6000.16575

I got Vista, 2 gb ram and gf 8600 gs. However thats not the problem as it runs fine unpatched, its just the installfile that doesn't want to work.

I get the message "C:\Documents and Settings......CustomAssets\CvGameCoreDLL.dll isn't a valid Windows image. Check this with the installation diskette".

I've installed Win XP and all necessary drivers and stuff and reinstalled Civ IV on my new disk drive (from the original bought installation-DVD). CIV worked OK on my old disk, except for occasionally shutting down mid-game due to some undefined error.

What is wrong? How can I fix this?

I just purchased and installed Civ 4 Gold. It comes with the Civ 1.7.4 version and Warlords 2.1.3.

I have a Dell Dimension E510, WinXP Pro SP2. Everything has been working great before this install.

After install (which went well), I didn't want background music with my game. This was Civ 4, not Warlords. So, I checked the no sound box under Music on the Options page. I left the other sound boxes alone. I then loaded Warlords and did the same.

It did stop the background music. The problem is that it also stopped ALL sounds in ALL programs. I can't play music, get audio while watching video, etc. No sounds whatsoever.

I uninstalled Civ 4 and Warlords and rebooted. Still no sounds. I went through the Windows troubleshooting guide (for sound problems) and everything appears fine. I have an integrated soundcard - SigmaTel Audio - and I can't see that anything has changed from the defaults that were there before installing Civ 4. I noted the messages about deleting registry keys but those are not there after doing the automated uninstall from Add & Remove.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with Civ 4? Any suggestions at this point? Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper at the moment.

Edit update: after poking around for quite awhile, I discovered the headphone jack *does* still provide sound. Still nothing from the speakers though. I reinstalled the latest soundcard drivers but that didn't change anything.

Hello,

I have the Civilization 4 Gold edition and have been playing the "Warlords" aspect of it. I can load Civ4 up and get it running, but everytime I load a saved game file and begin playing it my game crashes after a few turns stating that there is a "runtime error". So in order to fix this I tried getting installing the patch for Warlords, but when the patch tried to run the setup program I was prompted with a message saying that "The setup has detected that no version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Warlords is installed." Now I know this not to be true, cause I've been playing it. How do I fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

it's hard to say what the error is exactly. Everything works fine until I load a saved file and begin playing. Then after completing one turn the game minimizes and a window appears on the desktop. For whatever reason the window doesn't display anything, it's just an error message without anything on it (the blue bar at the top where the minimize, maximize and close buttons are located isn't there, probably due to some display error). So I click 'okay' and a larger window appears directly after this with the same kind of display problem, only that I can read a single line that says "runtime error". I wish I could be more precise.

Welcome to you as well :)
what exactly happens when you try to start it?

thanks for the welcome

when i try to load it it says this game has known compatability issues would you like to check for solutions online or run the programme anyway.

ive done everything it says to on this site so i went onto run programme anyway and when it gets to the loading screen it comes up with "sid meier's civilization has stopped working, a problem caused the program to stop working correctly"
