it's hard to say what the error is exactly. Everything works fine until I load a saved file and begin playing. Then after completing one turn the game minimizes and a window appears on the desktop. For whatever reason the window doesn't display anything, it's just an error message without anything on it (the blue bar at the top where the minimize, maximize and close buttons are located isn't there, probably due to some display error). So I click 'okay' and a larger window appears directly after this with the same kind of display problem, only that I can read a single line that says "runtime error". I wish I could be more precise.

please open your civilizationIV.ini (located in my games\<gamename>\) and change all settings with log in their name from 0 to 1 - then start a game, when it crashes post the contents of my games\<gamename>\logs as a zip file here (use go advanced -> manage attachments under the reply box to attach files).

when i try to load it it says this game has known compatability issues would you like to check for solutions online or run the programme anyway.

ive done everything it says to on this site so i went onto run programme anyway and when it gets to the loading screen it comes up with "sid meier's civilization has stopped working, a problem caused the program to stop working correctly"

What operating system? what game exactly (Civ4 or an expansion)? what patches did you apply?

Im on vista, and its normal civ 4, i downloaded the patches 1.61 and 1.74 and direct x 9 which in an earlier post you mentionsed should help to sort out most vista problems

does this error message contain any more information? Its hard to tell what happens since there are a lot of potential causes for crashes not all due to the game If in doubt a screenshot of the error message may help.

I have seen this before but cannot quite remember where. What kind of graphics card do you have?

My graphics card is ATI’s Mobility Radeon X1400. Also, I use Windows XP Professional with SP 2 and my computer is a Dell Inspiron 9400 notebook.

i watched it a few times and the error always comes up when the loading bar is at checking xml

the exact wording of the error is "a problem caused the programme to stop working correctly windows will close the program and notify you if a soulution is available" it comes up with no solution

I have always been having problem with this civ IV. I m using Vista ultimate version. I have just install my Civ IV which i had bought last year. After dealing with the 1.74 patch problem and D3Dx9_32.dll problem, I've just found a new problem that stop me from loading the game.

It shows that "error loading shader libraries".

Can anyone pls tell me what is that about and what should i do with it?

Im having the exact same problem, no patches have worked for....neither has editing the fullscreen info. begging for help

Try looking up the 'virtual memory' section on this post at the beginning and follow those directions

I know this is probably very boring for most people now but, ive just bought civ4 formy laptop and i have vista, so in a nut shell could anyone tell me what exactly i need to do to get it to work 100% except for downloading the latest patch as im already doing this. i bought civ4 the original btw.

I resolved the d3dx9_32.dll / "error loading shader libraries" issue by downloading the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from microsoft It can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en

So my problem with the game is on how the units work. First I'd like to know how 3 worriers 2 axemen and 2 archers can walk throw an army of 14 higher level swordsmen and 6 crossbowmen, when i'm on the defence? sure theres bugs like seeing cavalry take out an chopper, but really 7 week guys taking out 20 tugh guys? Can we have some more bull s**t please? Perhaps you can make the monks better then my bombers next. or have the fishing boats kill distroyers. Or maby I can shuve my mouse up your a*s and we'll say that were even for me waisting money on this sh*ty game.

I have posted this before about the Windows accessibility "sticky keys." function being disabled when the program starts. Something I want you guys to try is playing the game with one finger and see how limited the game really is.

no problem, its attached. also, I downloaded the update for my ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card off the Dell website for my Dell Inspiron 9400 and now the game won't run. I get a bunch of repeated errors when its starting up about my .xml files not being found or something.
