Fix-It List

No. It does not show any errors. Kinda figured it out myself haha. Has the information thing that says it was configured successfully

:hmm:
there is a newer driver for your graphics card out there:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...2301&OSFullName=&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!

I doubt that does it though... This just happens when starting an MP session? after you attempt to login? Does the computer have internet access? (yes I know its a dumb question ;)) Are you sure your firewall and/or antivir program allows civ4 to call the internet?

Ok so when I click Multiplayer, then type in my name and password (which i have previously registered and it works) as soon as i click Login. Bam, freezes. Yea it has internet and worked on the previous version i could see people chattin n . .. .. .. . when it wanted me to upgrade the patch. My firewall is closed and my antivirus isnt keeping it from accessing the internet but ill try to disable my AV.

you might get some more help in the multiplayer section of this forum - I don't know too mach about the login mechanism used....

Oh btw that driver isnt for my computer.
weird - it definitely is for the graphics card your computer uses and for winxp - but then again intel sometimes sells chips to the vendors and they change them to fit in their computers - so the correct driver might be found on your vendor's site. As I said I doubt that it has something to do with your problem though  :dunno:

Can't (re)install BTS because of patching problems.

Had installed and successfully run Vanilla and BTS, plus patches. After doing some disk cleanup, started getting error messages about Python not working and decided to reinstall. Reinstalled Vanilla, no prob. But BTS stops installing after attempting to install a patch (doesn't say which one) to Vanilla, and saying it fails.
So I tried installing patch manually. If I use the "Advanced" menu from Vanilla, it detects a new version but fails when it attempts to install it. I then downloaded Patch v1.74. But when I attempt to run it, I'm told that it cannot be run with the 1.009.000 version of Civ IV installed and I should uninstall this first. Of course, when I attempt to uninstall Civ IV and then the patch, it tells me that I have to have a Civ IV installed.

Help appreciated!

hi i'm having a problem which seemed to be very similar to the first couple pages of this thread a few years ago and i tried to follow some of those fixes with no luck. i have civ 4 and both expansions and i can't get very far with any of them. the furthest i've gotten is for the game to go through it's loading bar, watch the intro movie, click to get through all the advertising/brand screens, and then try to set up a game. i have actually made it into a game at one point but couldn't do anything because it would freeze so much.

my problem is this, the game glitches out where the graphics freeze but the audio keeps playing in the background but will occasionally glitch as in the audio gets stuck and sputters on that stuck part for a second or 2 but then is fine. during this my cursor is locked up also. i've tried changing the max frame thing in the ini file and a few other things which helped but not much. once i did the fixes from the first few pages on this thread i was actually able to open the program and select the settings for a game and get into the game but thats where it started freezing. since then i've tried a few other things with no more luck.

i tried the nvhardpage thing which helped but not enough. this problem also happened a few weeks ago when i tried to install and play and since then i have done a completely fresh install of everything on the computer including up to date drivers for sound, video, mobo, directx, etc.

i'm running windows xp sp3
athlon 2600 @2.050ghz
1.5gb ddr 205mhz
plenty of hd space
geforce fx 5200 128mg

let me know if i need to provide anything else so someone can point me in the right direction. i really wanted to get this working because this is something my little brother and i like to do to spend time together on the weekend. thanks!

yes i have updated to the latest patches and still the same problem. earlier today i removed them all and did a fresh install of just civ 4 and updated and still no luck.

so far this is what i've tried since the last post.

un-installed all civ 4 stuff, un-installed video drivers, re-installed civ 4 without expansions, patched to 1.74, installed the drivers that came with the video card

then i went through and changed my settings in nvhardpage and nvidia control so they were optimized for performance and not quality

tried the game

then went and changed 1 or 2 settings in the ini file, each time i changed something i would retry the game to see if it got better, eventually went all the way through the ini file

then upgraded to 91.?? nvidia drivers, tried the game, then upgraded to the 175.19 and tried the game.

the best results i had were with the original drivers, video settings and changes to the ini file. the best results i got were perfect intro video's with no lag, glitching or choppiness and finally getting to the main menu where it took about 2 seconds to freeze. it would freeze for about 4-8 seconds then continue with the animation of the earth spinning in the background and the cursor would be free but that lasted about half a second then back to freezing.

also before all of this i removed my sound card so there weren't any conflicts from it. and as part of the steps changing video settings and the ini file i also reset all defaults in the bios except to changed the clock speed so the processor registered as an athlon 2600 instead of reading 1250mhz at boot.

any ideas on what to try next? i've read entirely too many posts and sites where people were running this game fine with way less than what i have in my computer. i don't have a whole lot but 128mg for video, 1.5gb ddr ram, up to 512mg mapped agp memory, and a 2.1ghz processor should be enough.
thanks for any help, i've spent hours and hours trying to get this to work.

well the problem is not fixed yet but i think i know what is the problem. there is a capacitor on the graphics card that has busted open. weird thing is that i only have problems trying to play civ 4 and recently when i tried installing wow to check out that game. hopefully that is my problem and i can fix it.

so for anyone having problems where you get no errors but things freeze then unfreeze etc and you have more than the sys requirements, take a look at your card.

the link has good pictures of exactly the type of problem on my board but not pictures of my board, the link is about an lcd monitor.

also if anyone finds this useful, i have been reading that replacing the capacitors with higher voltage ones has worked fine. the ones on the board have a printing on them "FZ58 1000 16v" and if anyone goes through with repairing capacitors, there is a + and - side so make sure you put them in correctly.

i'll write back if this fixes it.

Hi There,

I just recently purchased the game, got the new patch to work and now I have another problem, the movies seem to be lagging like crazy. My video card should work the system Nvidia geForce 6120 (or something like that) and I remember reading some quick fix for a problem similar to this but I can't find it. Do you think that you can help?
