Well, a somewhat different game to the others that have been posted so far (viewed after posting my game!) – essentially went down the technology path and bypassed all warfare. We’ve got three new cities (two fringes and a good one) and closing in on Computers.
Opening
There’s no doubt that under normal playing conditions I would have missed this, but there was a bit of preamble chat in the thread about Bismark having his “hands full” that I felt the best path was to drop the other pact and hide behind the aggressor. I suspected that Bismark was going to try an off-shore invasion of that strange teal-coloured tribe that we’ve yet to meet, but was wary nonetheless that he could attack Persia-Celtia.
Cancel Defensive Pact with Persia;
Workers were sent to clear the jungle in the middle of our empire. Our Settler heads down into the jungle.
The Caravel kept heading west to meet the teal-coloured tribe with Seoul as its capital.
- Madras > Observatory
- Verlamion > Grocer
- Vienne > Theatre
- Gergovia > Observatory
- Delhi > Observatory
- Calcutta > Grocer
… and make the Steel trades …
- Cyrus : Steel + 190 gold <> Democracy
- Roosevelt : Steel <> Scientific Method + Map + 20 gold
- Brennus : Steel <> Military Tradition + Map + 30 gold (optional tech, but may as well)
- Aug Caesar : Steel <> Corporation + Map + 50 gold
I set our technology path pretty well directly to Computers;
- Steam Power (part researched only) > Physics
1655 - 1665
Lahore is founded;
We notice that within a turn Persia has upgraded its siege weaponry to Cannons. Afterwards we cancel the Iron flow to Cyrus.
With the acquisition of Scientific Method, we note we have Oil in the desert to the north!
I opt to send our resident Great Scientist to our second best commercial city in Madras and build an Academy there.
We concede to a request by Cyrus to cancel deals with Roosevelt, and we have a few health problems as a result.
Big Civics switch away from ‘Farm Economy’ to ‘Cottage Economy’;
- Representation > Universal Suffrage
- Bureaucracy > Free Speech
- The Caste System > Emancipation
- Pacifism > Organised Religion
Gergovia had some workers converting Mines to Windmills, but I stop that as I see it as quite a good production base.
1670 – 1700
Caesar demands Scientific Method, and I concede. We meet “Shut up I hate you!” Angry Korea Man. Mission accomplished, the Caravel returns towards our western coast. We drop our science rate and hurry some Observatories.
- Delhi, Madras, Verlamion, Gergovia, Calcutta > Theatre, and then ..
- Delhi > Settler > Settler
- Madras > Jewish Missionary
- Verlamion > Hindu Temple
- Vienne > Mausoleum > Jewish Temple
Bismark switches into Theocracy … hmmm
1710 – 1750
Trumpets! Bismark attacks Cyrus and Brennus gets dragged in. India becomes Switzerland

.
I give in to Wang Kon’s demand for Rice.
We have Uranium!
Madras’s Jewish Missionary succeeds in spreading the faith in Lahore.
We move Delhi’s Settler to Arbela – hopefully it will get razed and we can steal the spot.
- Vienne > Observatory (later rushed) > Market
- Gergovia > Grocer (later rushed) > The Kremlin (after Communism trade)
- Calcutta > Bank
- Madras > Grocer > Bank
- Verlamion > Hermitage
- Delhi > Market
I try to improve our relationship with Augustus Caesar, and gift him the old technology Democracy, and Open Borders. Doesn’t help much – he sits on Cautious.
Arbela is captured by the Germans, but not razed.
- Bismark : Democracy <> 680 gold + Map
- Cyrus : Physics <> Communism + 430 gold + Map
- Free Market > State Property
We are invited by Bismark to join his war against Persia; I think not. No problems, he’s still Friendly.
Eventually Arbela is razed by Brennus, but German culture prevents us from founding on the ruins. I wait to see if Verlamion can push it back so we can pick up the Rice tile in the fat-X.
Karachi is settled to the north to pick up the tasty the Oil-Spice-Rice resources.
Germany takes Ergili – the former Persian city to the north-west above Madras.
1755 – 1800
Electricity > Steam Power (partly completed)
Persia completes The Kremlin and we pick up 95 gold for our effort. A Jewish Missionary spreads the faith in Karachi.
- Gergovia > Ironworks
- Lahore > Granary
- Vienne > Scotland Yard
- Delhi > Bank > Jewish Missionary
- Calcutta and Madras > Market
We connect Horses and cancel Wang Kon’s free Rice.
We have Coal!
- Caesar : Communism + Physics <> Railroad + 20 gold + Map
- Bismark : Communism <> 940 gold + Map
- Cyrus : Rice <> Fish
Workers begin railroading Mines and Lumbermills.
The German battles continue, and Frankfurt looks as though it could fall – lots of Persian Cavalry versus entrenched German Riflemen.
- Lahore > Grocer
- Karachi > Granary
Delhi pops a Silver!
1790 sees a cessation of violence, and peace breaks out amongst our Jewish peers. Frankfurt remains in German hands. All is well again in the world – and regrettably the borders don’t push back far enough away, so Kolhapur is founded in a sub optimal spot;
We make sure there are no further nasty surprises;
1802 - 1820
- Karachi > Forge
- Calcutta > Jewish Missionary > Hindu Temple > Broadway
- Delhi > Machine Gun
- Madras > Drydock
- Verlamion > Observatory
- Kolhapur > Lighthouse
- Gergovia > (Ironworks interrupted) > Harbor > Ironworks
- Cyrus : Dye <> Wine cancelled (one Winery was pillaged in the war)
- Roosevelt : Communism + Physics <> Combustion + Divine Right + Map + 10 gold
Brennus takes one turn as being a free state of Cyrus before again becoming a voluntary vassal of Persia.
- Cyrus : Divine Right <> 380 gold + Map
- Bismark : Dye <> Fur
- Bismark : Divine Right <> 160 gold + Map
- Caesar : Divine Right <> 110 gold + Map
- Roosevelt : Spices <> 6 gold per turn
- Delhi > Machine Gun
- Kolhapur > Granary > Forge
- Madras > Eiffel Tower
- Verlamion > Rock ‘n’ Roll
- Vienne > Spy > Spy > Spy
- Lahore > Observatory
Upgrade Caravel to Submarine.
We pop a Great Artist (Homer; alleged author of The Iliad and The Odyssey) in Delhi.
On the last turn it is reported that Augustus Caesar constructed Broadway.
We have a sleeping Great Artist and 'untouched' Great Engineer from Gaiur's round. One Spy in Germany, and another in “Shut up I hate you!” Korea.

… and Relations;
