Fix the 5th trash game

Mice, one not so trash after one best isn't too bad is it;)?
I'm glad noone is crazy enough to try mine.
I even hesitated to post it, but I thought it had some educationnal value :
"Sue for peace asap if you don't have the troops !".

I suggest we go for a normal best round, I don't think we can win in the next 40/50 turns.
Please all save at 1900AD and submit, ojevind if you manage it, do it.

Mice, you got us here, what's your thinking for our next steps?

... and welcome back Öjevind Lång! :)

this is not a spoiler, i have not played. this is intelligence i gathered while comparing saves!

when i looked at giaur's game and opened his event log, i found out that altho persia owned bombay in the final save, giaur had captured it. bombay flipped to persia due to culture pressure. that surprised me, since it had once been ours. but i suppose it makes sense, since when india lost it, it wasn't "captured in conquest" like the checkbox option thingamabob, so the checkbox doesn't need to be checked for it to be flippable.

in that world, there was no german pressure from the other side. here, there is. i don't know whether that makes a flip more likely (due to more culture pressure overall) or less likely (since there are two rival pressures, so it can't figure out who to flip to).

anyway, mice captured bombay too. it has a 7+% chance of revolt. don't assume that just because it was once ours, we can't lose it in a flip, since apparently we can. keep it full of troops if you want to keep it at all.

It's past midnight so my thinking is.. tired. But I do remember wishing I had defended Vermilion better. I traded it for two culture crushed cities, so the priority is to build up culture in them. Relations are quite good, and if Bismark attacks again we have a reasonable army for now. I hope some one can pull a rabbit out of the hat.

I like the idea of chosing best game next turnset and then playing from that last save to the end.

Oh my! I thought it was going to be a cruise to the end now. My wife is gonna kill me.

Mice, er... Congrats? :D
I must say I thought your game was unwinnable. But it's just to my dumb skills.
The magicians better players around here should get more value from it. :hatsoff:

So, we're due Friday, again? 40 turns should be hard, but I'll try my best to not get divorced... :mischief:

fb, real life comes first of course. after all, it's merely a life or death situation for the indian civilization as me know it. or perhaps just a sense of disappointment at being left behind as someone else reaches alpha centauri. or ... my preference ... a WIN! so, prioritize, marriage vs. the fate of an entire civilization resting in your hands.

now i'm off to furiously knock wood.

Just so I've got this straight.

We're playing fourty turns from mice's save which will take us up to 1900. Best save then on to victory.

We seem to have fallen a bit behind. What's the date for submissions to be in?

friday night as usual, since noone asked for a delay.
Or do we need a delay (I certainly could use one)?

I'd like to stick to the usual format from now on and bowl this baby over if you don't mind. I'm sure enjoying this game though. :)

Got round to looking at the save. There's work to be done but its a long way from hopeless. More workers might be nice for railroads and cottages. Main thing is deciding on city specialisation.

I'm glad you think so.

Off topic, I had my first standard continents, play now settings win on monarch 2.08 the other day. I'm not sure if I applied things learned from this game because this game was so unusual. Good to get the win under my belt.

those two things throw me off every round. it's so weird.

i had this rice by gergovia irrigated! now i have to farm over a town?
wait where did my market go?
looking at saves and wondering what they heck i'll do with X national wonder over here
the best was last time, on turn 30 out of 40 or whatever ... oh man, like half of my cities aren't jewish in this save! hadn't even crossed my mind to check.

that sort of thing. lately i've been opening the save to just stare and think about it twice before i ever open it to actually play, and even then my turn 0 can take more than 15 minutes *giggle*.

i suppose i have to learn that sort of "figure out what happened since others have played" for SGs, altho to the extreme of national wonders changing locations during peacetime . i'm even in another one now, and had signed up for a third, but chickened out when i realized i'd surely lose it for them. look what you've started ...

edit: grats on the win mice!!!!

(a.) 'Yes' - Congratulations on your win Mice! :)

(b.) Well Gandhi's not yet in Space, at least in my game he ain't! ...

Cyrus and Brennus declare on Wang Kon who quickly loses one inland city.
Bismark is now up to Pleased.

End of round summary:

We now have two Great Engineers and a Great Scientist sleeping. The Great Engineer was a good outcome, as it was about 40% odds and it was the Great Person that I was hoping for. Trashy Gandhi didn’t quite get to Fibre Optics in the round. Major cities have Laboratories and Gergovia has the Ironworks up. Three Spies are on their way to Roman turf. No Aluminium throws a ’cat among the pigeons’ - Cyrus has two and is willing to trade it, but not for anything we might have right now.

No Defensive Pact with Bismark as hoped, but he’s at least Pleased for now. War from Persia-Celtia versus Korea was a pleasant surprise, and will hopefully slow Wang’s development down and distract any evil intentions he might have had against India:

To respond to your question a few posts ago Cam, I think i might go on the attack against Bismark again. I'd like to attack Cyrus to get rid of some of that culture pressure, but in fact , Vermillion's tiles are mostly available to us, especially with a new city there. For once the ancient culture effect is working in our favor.

To grab Berlin would take a lot of culture pressure off Frankfurt and Bombay.

It depends on how the Biz/Cyrus war goes. Anyway, that's my plan. All or nothing.

another trash round:
Spoiler :

Techwise got elec(1832) which I traded for communism, fascism and DR. Artillery (1850). Radio (1868). Medicine (1882) to build hospitals in all the unhealthy cities. Traded for Industrialism(1886). Computers (1898). Gus, Roose and Wang all have rocketry and plastics vs our computers and medicine. Fairly standard, some may have satellites as well.
Did lots of trades. Used a fair bit of cash to modernise our army and built some units as well.
Burned GE on Broadway, lost Broadway two turns later  .
GS went on academy in Calcutta.
(should have saved both of them for later).
We have no aluminium. We are however breaking even at 100% research and almost up to 1000 beakers/turn which is a useful benchmark in any game. If we reduce research to 90% cyrus will trade aluminium for bananas and 74gpt.
Bombay flipped to persia in 1862. Peace broke out in 1848. Various DPs on offer, not yet taken. Jungle city got founded in 1824, growing nicely.
We're second in GNP behind Gus. Still last in power despite upgrades.
Wang completed Apollo in 1838.
The game is still wide open.

I'm so sorry, guys. I won't play in time. As I said before, my wife is getting civ-sick and my precious time at night is being given to her.
Yesterday I went home earlier to play both my SG and this game. 10 turns on the SG took me about 2 hours. I can't imagine the time for playing 40 turns in the modern era...

my not so good save.
I didn't note anything during play, but I put a pretty lame summary in the spoiler
Spoiler :

teched to computer and rocketry, trading electricity and radio for artillery and industrialism, communism, divine right ()
started to research satellites when bismarck declared.
WW hit right from the start, and science went down the toilets.
I $rushed a few tanks, upgraded catapults to artillery and took 3 or 4 of his cities. stupid AI.
He's ready to sue for peace for some money. I would raze apach to free the aluminium then settle right on the metal if I had to continue.
For some smoky reason, I switched to police state on the last turn (ww is high!), so maybe keeping up the war a bit longer could be good, don't know.
