Fix the 5th trash game

oh my goodness!!!

Spoiler :
i'd played some, then put it away. finishing now. roosevelt just came up to say the peace-loving people of america would like to be in DP with me. i'm at +9/-7 with the guy! he's not at friendly, only pleased, this was most unexpected. i guess he's one of the ones that doesn't wait til friendly. what does he think i'm gonna do, protect him? and wang kon earlier went from annoyed to cautious due to +3 fair/forthright, 2 turns after i met him, when all i did was start selling him cows for 12 gpt or so. i think my game is bugged . i'll be done tonight.

okay. i didn't build apollo yet, but neither did any of the other leaders. winnable from here IMO, but might need someone more skilled at slowing down the other teams via whomping on their heads than i am.

Spoiler :
no new territory. i split up jungle city into two cities, to get the most use out of the tiles that belonged to verl before. verl keeps revolting btw so it doesn't help cyrus much. they're doing nicely, grew fast. dehli was size 9 and on halt growth on turn 0, that made me sad. i wanted to grow it, and all our cities, bigger since our land area wasn't gonna get bigger. i think i did that, and then some. dehli is now size 19 .

i stole a lot more tiles than i'd expected to from persia, and some from germany. got a flood plains near munich in 1900, put the cottage down right away. bombay's a pretty decent fishing village. bombay and frankfurt [edit: and now lahore too] are making odd amounts of food hoping that we steal more tiles. whether we do or not, i like how the tiles are now but they'll need need to be changed at some point. i've been watching arbela's rice, it's down to 58 or 59% persian so yay.

the weirdest thing: 1856 roos offered me a DP. i realized the other day that the -1 "you signed defense pacts with our rivals" doesn't kick in until you sign 2, and obviously DPs with cyrus lead to trouble, and bismarck isn't going to hit friendly to sign one. so, oddly enough, i said yes . we want to see different approaches, right? so completely out of character for me you have no idea!

rocketry came in 1898. i have several techs on various people, but nobody's been willing to trade anything for ages. i need 3GD to get built to get plastics. roos is the tech monster, 2nd in score only to gus and that must be due to power, gus has been off the charts in power for ages. if PAs were on, i bet we could swing my DP into a PA and win that way with roos's help. as it is, i don't think we'll be making a ship from my save unless we manage to slow roos or wang down.

on turn 0 i cancelled all cyrus/brennus trades including OB so that bis couldn't demand that i stop trading. i swapped out of FR back to judaism as soon as i could for political reasons. i did trade with bis for fur and silver, losing FR was gonna hurt my happiness and i could afford -s (for refusing to stop trades) more with cyrus than with bis. but, in 1824 cyrus offered me wine, it's health with a grocer so i accepted it even with my fear. later bis asked me to stop trading with the celts and i said no. he got up to pleased at one point, but then back to cautious since he forgot that i gave him help. he'd asked for communism. cyrus asked for DR the turn after i sold it to brennus, i was thrilled to get the +1. cyrus demanded that i cancel trading with gus, WHILE he was at war with bis, he's crazy.

major resource trade was noticing that brennus had wheat, +2 with granary! i guess he'd been trading it to cyrus, i dunno, but i grabbed it, fear of being asked to cancel or not. wang wouldn't give me sugar for spice when i met him, so i sold him cows for 13 gpt or so. 2 turns later he was up to +3 fair/forthright already?? oh i did buy his world map for 10g, thinking "oh yay cheap maps this must be monarch." maybe that helped? i dunno. anyway at +3 f/f he was up to cautious and offered me the sugar/spice trade, i grabbed it. he later cancelled it, and then offered it again. fickle.

in 1830 bis took ergili, i think we ought to be able to keep those clams now. brennus decided not to be a vassal in 1834, i think he's still free. no other cities changed hands. the three did not sign peace until 1892. 1848 cyrus fell to bottom half of scoreboard below wang, not good, he's friendly we want him in the top since WFYABTA doesn't count anyway. in 1892 he was below us in score even.

i moved our entire army into bombay starting at turn 0 to make sure it didn't flip (chance of revolt was more than 7.5%). in 1900 i wanted to check again, kept moving troops out, now even with only one infantry in there i'm showing no chance at all. i don't truly believe that, maybe we have to hit enter, altho it always goes up and down during the turn when i try it. in any case, everything except that one infantryman is now standing outside of bombay, so that if there's still 0 chance when you hit enter (if we go with mine haha i hope someone has better), you can figure out where you'd rather station them.

made a jewish missionary at some point when i meant to make a hindu one to get us a gold, so he's scouting around germany. the GE that was there before is still there, i got a GP on my turn and he's napping too.

IW went to vienne. it's making west point now, mostly by throwing in overflow after hospital/market/etc since i'm not in a rush.

scotland yard is in gergovia. one spy arrived overseas, learned that gus is 4 turns from learning robotics, wang gets satellites in 2. that spy is on her way to new york, another is on a sub to go between antium and pyongyang in the same turn to watch gus and wang's research. or we can hunt around for apollo and all that stuff. using spy overflow to make a hospital in between. i didn't know MAs work on spies, that's nifty.

i think i forgot to take off my signs to myself about which tiles needed to do chain irrigation; i'd kept the signs so that i'd not cottage over them and ruin everything. sorry. i ran irrigation to gerg's rice, ends up being a wash for calcutta once the tiles that were irrigated before grow up to be towns to replace the hammer from the one town i farmed over (the other was only a village still).

I didnt take Berlin after all...
Spoiler :

Played it safe as Cyrus made peace with Bismark. I didn't want to antagonize him and get DoWed again.

Built factories and teched to computers.

Founded Karachi to claim some of the tiles that used to belong to Vermillon.

Bombay flipped, butI don't mind. It didn't hold many tiles for us.

Met Wang finally and traded only resources for gold/turn

Then traded radio to Wang for industrialism. No aluminum. Dodgy move to trade away a space race tech, but I thought I needed the trade more than he did.

No aluminium is a big blow.

Building Laboratories, and at last Wang declares on Cyrus/Brennus, but will it be enough to slow them down, as the war will be inter-continental. Roosevelt is now probably the contender.

Spoiler :
you popped aluminum!!!!! that's priceless!!!!

you forgot to turn off disable growth in dehli :(. i think you forgot last time too. it's been stuck at size 9 all this timei, dang.

Did I pop aluminium ? I must have been really sleepy when I played. I didn't notice. And I don't think I did mention the avoid growth button. How did that get on? I never use it.

So, I don't think aluminium is going to out do the advantages of the other saves.

omg i saw dehli at 9 at turn 0 and was like ACK!!! *giggle*. but yup, aluminum at calcutta baybee! i never use avoid growth but somebody had turned it on way back when. i grew the crap out of dehli in mine

All righty then.

Öjevind Lång seems to be the last possible contributor, but he's not posted for a while and it's past the deadline :undecide: so I guess it's down to five;
  • Cabert,
  • KMad,
  • Mice,
  • Pigswill, and
  • Cam.
Giaur should have been doing the votes this round, but he's in Civ rehab until September
yuck.gif
. Cabert - if you could nominate a Returning Officer or take on this most arduous task yourself, it would be great! :)

I do apologize. I thought I would have the time. I know you don't want to wait another 12 hours, so please go ahead! (As if I had a say - duh!)

I would like to participate, but it is too late, isn't it?

^ No no - not at all!

It's just you said; "I believe I will have the time to play the upcoming round" and it sounded a bit on the 'uncertain side'.

I look forward to your submission. :)

... and good work by the rest of the participants this round - big differences again, but all with strengths.

i was describing this SG to hubby again today, how it's so fun to see the same world played out so differently. i told him how poor cabert seems to end up with "we hate the monarch day" every single time. at least we love you, even if your citizens get angry.

Ojevind the more choices the better :)

and cam you crack me up! in some ways we're so different (i trade much more like cabert than you, from seeing you two in other games, different tech paths), but in some core ways we think very alike (the DP last round, making two cities this round rather than just one). kind of spooky! i went round and round with myself about where to put IW, came close to putting it in gerg like you did :crazyeye:. if this keeps up i'll be telling you what i tell my girlfriends in situations like when we say the same thing at the same time: "get out of my head!" *giggle*.

Man, I feel terrible. Why can't I join in??? :(
I just got no time to play this week, besides Wednesday. I thought getting home earlier would do it, but I miscalculated. I hope you guys will still have me in future games... :please:

As I didn't play, if someone needs a returning officer to replace Giaur, count me in. :mischief:

I'm off to see the spoilers...

well, it's a matter of timing, and having to factor in those diplomatic modifiers with your wife. in life and in games, you can't always get what you want, and can't get always along with everybody. you have to set priorities and pick sides, because someone will ask you to cancel trades, guaranteed. and in that situation, it's likely best to side with the one you married ;).

this has been your moment of stating the obvious, courtesy of KMad.

we know how it is.

Fbel,

Hopefully we'll get the voting done by Wednesday so you can join in for the final surge to the stars.

KMad,

Thanks for your thoughts, and I'm glad I crack you up!

you're it!
please send your votes to FB asap.
next round will be a go for the win (because I finished 2 of the saves already :mischief: )

omg cabert you sploiter!!! did you win??? was one your own?

i played one last night that i wasn't sure was winnable. i sabotaged roosevelt right and left and was gonna beat him by 6 turns. and then gus launched! the F8 screen only shows how far one person is, and it had shown roos all along. i knew gus had the tech (i'd gotten most techs from the internet *giggle*) but i didn't know he was making 4 of the big fat parts all at once, then bam bam bam he was up in the sky within 2 turns of when i knew he was done with the life support or whichever one it was. i was not pleased . i wish there was a way to see a list of how they're all doing, i gotta start writing it down i guess. i had 2 turns to go on my engine.

well, i knew it was winnable. i didn't know whether i could win it, is what i mean. and, i couldn't hahahahaha. it was not mine, and it wasn't not giaur's, and that's all i'm gonna say ;).

did I spoil something?
Now I will : I won both, one in 1960, the other in 1970. And since I played before you posted your save, I let you guess which games it was
I told both the players I chose to continue the save the outcome, so both could cry "spoiler". I didn't continue yours yet, nor mine.
Just for fun, I will continue mine but bismarck somehow killed my infra building. Sure, I did well in the war front but switching to police state sure was a mistake that made me  at myself. switching earlier would have been good.

spies move ;)

spies move yeah. but i have a limit of 4 spies. and there were 3 bad guys on one continent and 2 on another and each had at least 3 cities working on parts. how exactly am i supposed around all those places with just 4 units buster? you are insane. :crazyeye:

Its going to be difficult to vote until Ojevind posts his game.
