Hey every one,
Sorry if this isn't the right place for this post...

Just wondering if anyone could help me with Civ 5 SDK,
I downloaded the SDK from steam but when I open the world builder it says (Unable to locate component) then goes on to say (This application has failed to start because zlib1.dll was not found. Re installing might fix this problem.)

I couldn't find a reinstall in steam so i deleted it and re downloaded it but still same problem.

Has anyone experienced this problem and can anyone help me???....

Any help would be awesome Oh and im a noob so could any instructions be simple as possible...

Thanks Guys/Gals

Hi Wonton,

I suggest that you first verify that the error message is accurate. Do you have a file named zlib1.dll in the folder C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v? Make sure that it's on the C: drive and not D: or something else. Please post again with the answer, or let me know if you need help coming up with the answer. We'll take it from there.

Thanks The_J, Petek Thanks for the help, I have checked and found the file zlib1.dll in the folder C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v and it is on the C: drive. Could you enlighten me on the next step? :D

My next suggestion is uninstall/re-install the program, instead of just deleting it and then re-installing. Here's how to do so:

(1) Open the Steam Library.
(2) Select Tools.
(3) Right-click on Sid Meier's Civilization V SDK.
(4) Select Delete Local Content.
(5) Select Delete.
(6) After this last step is complete, I recommend that you close Steam (probably not necessary, but just in case) and reopen it back to the Library.
(7) Select Tools and again right-click on Sid Meier's Civilization V SDK.
(8) Select Install Game and select the appropriate options.

Now try starting the SDK and report what happens.

Dude thanks so much it works. At first it still didn't work and produced a fraxis error report, but I just tried again and its all good.

Once again thank you for your help! :D
