Hey guys, I have experiencing flickering graphics since yesterday.(I have played BTS for months without seeing that problem)

Seems to be general, happened with play now, charlemagne and RFC.

not getting any error message, am not aware of any changes on my computer.

video card is GeForce 6100 with latest driver
I attached two screenshots... Those bars appear for a second then graphic goes back to normal... also the banner of my unit flick in & out.

Any help on this?

I'm getting the same kind of thing only even more pronounced. I'm running a Nvidia 8600 GT with the latest drivers. run dxdiag and on the display tab run the DirectDraw test and see if it fails the full screen bouncing box test. If it does reinstall your video driver, and set detail levels to low, turn anti-aliasing off, ect... And don't play on anything bigger than a standard map. I don't know if it's a screwed up driver or something in the game itself, but I never had this problem with the game when I was running a 6800 GT. It's a pity I love playing the game on large to huge maps with many civ's but can't
without having the video driver getting corrupted when the save games get up in 300kb turf.

I've been having the same issues.
a temporary fix is to change the hertz setting on the monitor. that tends to fix it for me for 15 - 30 mins, and then i have to do it again.
it sucks, but at least it clears it.

btw - running lates drivers - 7900 GS SLI

I get the same problem. I'd been playing Civ IV for years with no problems until I started playing BTS. I have a 6800 GT. I've downloaded the latest patches for the game and the latest drivers for my graphics card but no change.

I find I can play for around 30 mins as long as I don't zoom in and out on the screen at all. If I start doing that then the problem starts happening straight away and a hang of the game (and therefore my computer) is not far away.

It always seems to be centred around a city or unit so I've tried playing with the various in game options but still without any change.

Tried dxdiag but that's fine.

I guess at least it means it stops me playing for too long at a time

There's good news and bad news:

The good news is I found a 'solution'.

The bad news it that it was because my HD crashed and I had to buy a new one and reinstall everything. BTS now works fine though!

So, is the work of re-formatting your hard drive and reinstalling everything worth the chance that it might make BTS work?

First I would like to describe my troubleshooting situation and then relay the solution. I had been out of the Civ world for a while and when i returned (same specs and same installation) I began experiencing screen flicking that i had not previously experienced in any game. I determined through reading others' posts that my problem probably lay in my monitor settings. I have an HP w2207 Wide LCD Monitor on GeForce 7600 GS. My monitor (probably because it is LCD?) has only one setting for refresh, 60 Hz. That was the first place i looked to try and solve the flicking. As i could not change my refresh setting i moved on to screen resolution. Taking the advice of several postings i changed my resolution to a lower setting. Still the flicking persisted. Somewhat stumped, i looked in vain for a solution on the various Civ troubleshooting forums. Finally i went back to the resolution. As i looked over the list of possible resolutions something occurred to me: maybe a simple change in resolution is not sufficient, perhaps some resolutions caused flicking and some didn't. So i changed 1152x864 and just like that i was looking at a smooth screen of Civ goodness, no more flicking. I decided that the onus to share this solution had fallen to me and i should register on the forum and post. I really hope this helps anyone who is experiencing this problem and perhaps someone with more expertise in computers can re-post my solution in terms that are clear and accurate so that no more screens have to flicker. :D

Big John:

Thank you so much. This same thing happened to me starting just last night! Nothing had changed, to my knowledge...what the heck? I figured my graphics card was on its way out. But no! I had just, for the first time ever, gone to a huge map size. Had no idea that would affect things so dramatically. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to register and report. Your solution--quite a simple one, as it turns out, at least compared to what I thought might be necessary--worked perfectly.
