FLICster Suggestions Thread

Moeniir if you can't figure out how to do Alpha Blending against a terain bmp then we don't need it, the unit select circle would be nice though. (if you are just loading the images then I have no idea, if you use PSet the I have some ideas)

If you have a palette editor can it have copy/swap drag, and flip palette.

Also when exporting from FLC can you make it so the new name box it has the original name, like with FXMs.

I'm sure this one will take a while:

I would like FLCster to be able to import/convert simple AVIs into Civ3 flicks. I wanna use particle effects in my animator. :-)
But I could just render 1 frame at a time and do it like everyone else, but I think particles are only done in animation, not still frame. I have to look it up.

Yes, converting standard formats to Civ3 flics would be great

AVI -> Civ3 flc
or
Standard flc -> Civ3 flc

It would be really easier to make units...

I don't know if these has been said before, but I would like 2 buttons.

- A stop botton so I can see frame by frame
- A refresh button so I don't have to close and open the file again everytime I edit something

Could you perhaps put in an option to have a one second interval between animations. Like instead of a continuous loop, have it play the animation once, and then pause for a second, play, pause 1 sec, play, pause 1 sec, play etc..... This doesn't have much to do with animating, but I think it might be useful if one felt inclined to fabricate some unit specific sound effects. Basically I want some time to hit the play button, to time the sound effect, and when the animation is playing in a continuous loop, it is hard sometimes to tell where it starts, and where it ends. This also would be good to gauge how long the sound clip should be.

A second quick, and I would assume easy bell and/or whistle would be a little number that would tell how long the animation took in seconds.....

ie in the lower right corner, for an animation that takes 1.56 seconds, it would say "1.56", or even better, "1.56 sec".

I would like this to help synchronize sound effects with animations.

Thanks.

I'd like to see the abilities to:

-Cut a region of the flic (select a region of one frame and cuts that selection or the opposite selection in ALL frames)
-resize flics with pixel method (without blurring with the magenta background)

i don't make units but I find flicster essential in judging what units to include in a scenario.

this has probably already been suggested but here goes...

pause/play feature (sometimes its nice to just see the unit)
a registry key or something like that, so when we double click a FLC, it opens up in flicster (saves us some time and clicking)
remember where the last file was opened (again more time saving and clicking)

and is there a reason why it creates a folder called flicster in the civ_3/art/units/unix_x folders only? AFAIK if I open up another FLC somewhere else, your program doesnt seem to be creating this folder. Maybe this is subject to personal taste, but I always end up deleting these folders, it's just clutter and junk for me. Maybe it could be a setting (default is on) in a "preference" menu of some sort.

BTW amazing program and thanks for making it! It's been real helpful.

I've bee playing around with using a 3D program to create a new animated unit, but it seems that programs that convert from/to a series of bitmaps/a single bitmap with frames - are rare.

I've found one program that will convert my animation to a single series of images, but I still have to arrange the images for the final .PCX file.

Perhaps the next version of FLICster could allow export to a single file one frame high, and as wide as the total number of frames?

I doubt there will be a "next version of Flicster" as Moeniir has dissappeared, but taking single BMPs and making a framed one is already possible with the Civ3_SBB (look under utilities, unless it hasnt been released, then check Creation & cust.)

Have Flicster support file parameters. What I mean is that in windows if you associate a file type with a program, that program will be executed when you double-click the program. It recieves a parameter from windows containing the path to the file. Read this parameter and open the file upon program initialization. Additionally, it'd be great if the program didn't open up multiple instances of itself if there's already one active (but I don't know how to do that last bit).

:( good bye, ole sticky. We'll miss you. :(
The passing of time is always emotional.
Hail to Moeniir!!!!!
Hail to The Flicster!!!
We indeed benefited from the gracious gift of his time.
Thank you, where ever you went to. :)

As GIDustin has mentioned, Moeniir seems to have left . . .

If we want another version of Flicster, somebody's going to have to write the next version from scratch :(.

Making stuff like this open-source would prevent this from happening in the future, since anybody can continue the project even if it's abandoned by the origional author.

Unfortunatey, Flicster isn't open-source, so it's dead :(.
