Flynn cops a plea

This is entirely true and I've been predicting that all Trump has to do is invade some country and the liberal establishment will change their minds about him.

It took a LOT of well crafted (and fraudulent) sales pitch for the Bush administration to pull that off. I do not see anyone in the D'ump administration competent enough to pull that off...or competent at all for that matter.

I don't know if I agree with that. The American public seems to have a sort of muscle memory for supporting war (ie, they are extremely bloodthirsty and pretty racist to boot)...I don't think it would take as much work as you think.

Here ya go:

Iraq War Resolution... AKA "The authorization for the Use of Force in Iraq"

So looking at what Wikipedia has to say... It wasn't the full throated endorsement that I remembered... but plenty of Democrats (a majority of Democratic Senators in-fact) did go along with it.

What was the full-throated, frothing-at-the-mouth, foot-stomppin' war-cryin, falling-all-over-themselves to "drop me some bombs" was:
The Afghanistan War vote" AKA "The Authorization for the Use of Force Against Terrorists" that thing was damn near unanimous...

Murica!
Eff yeah!

Note that the Afghan war also had broad international support. It didn't really require any well crafted pitch.

So, yeah, if D'ump can incite or engineer a massive terrorist event with a well defined responsible party for him to go to war against that would serve as a valuable distraction. I would advise strongly against attendance at the winter olympics.

The pitch specifically was that Osama Bin Laden was there... which was probably a lie at the time and in any case ultimately turned out to be false, in the sense that we captured and summarily executed him... well technically summarily executed, then captured him, in Pakistan.

Oh and we're still in Afghanistan :ack:

As I recall, the Taliban acknowledged that he was there, claimed that they could turn him over, and refused.

they wanted us to present the evidence against him, Bush didn't want to get into that

Again, as I recall, he had already claimed credit. I don't believe that every claim of credit is true, but I don't hold out a lot of sympathy when someone claims credit and then doesn't get the full benefit of due process.

Assuming we trust and believe the Taliban... which, whatevs... to me its like the killer/robber flees the police and hides in your basement. The police come to your house and say "We know he's in there give him up to us!" You say "Whatever piglets go get a warrant!"... so they go get a warrant and bust down your door trash your house, beat you up... because they're in fear for their lives, or its a fun bonus whatever, ... but while this is going on they realize that the crook got away, he fled to some other house... they track him down, kill him, cause again... fear for their lives... so now hes dead, buried, cremated, tossed in the East River, whatever...

6 years later... Why are they still in your house "supervising" the cleanup?

The Taliban are scum and I dont fault a US Prez for ignoring their request for evidence (much) but they were walking a tightrope with OBL, handing him over would have probably started a civil war within their ranks and I dont know if they could have survived it, this way they lose their war but stay united waiting for the day we leave.

I'm not saying that they had any better choice. I just don't have any more sympathy for "yeah we have him but we won't give him up so come get him" than I have for "yeah I did claim credit but where's my due process?" So I, personally, don't lump the Afghan war into the same bag as the Iraq war.
