football thread No11

Even so, from what I recall Dortmund have shot themselves in the foot on several occasions which is what leads to Bayern winning the league comfortably each season. I think Dortmund have really improved if they're giving Bayern a run for their money this year. There may be more to this than Bayern's troubles.

Ugh, looks like Bayern will be the ones showering in beer today – unless Dortmund can mount a historic comeback this second half

I cannot tell when was the last time I cared about the Bundesliga. At this rate even the newfangled UEFA Conference League will be more interesting than national leagues and people will apply the Dilbert principle and just ‘promote’ a couple of the superclubs somewhither else just to get rid of them.

Lionel Messi will play Unitedstatesian football!

Also, West Ham!? I'm sortof happy for Moyes, who got undeserved flak for not-being-Ferguson after a more than decent spell at Everton.

It was a lot closer than I thought it would be. But I guess the outcome was inevitable.

Haaland didn't score.

Wonder how Haaland will manage to get injured before the Scotland game on Saturday. Perhaps a bad enough hang over will do it?

Oh **ing hell, the Argentine football association is doing its umpteenth ‘reform’ this decade. They're going to make it so that only two teams are relegated instead of three, right when the ‘wrong’ club might be accidentally relegated.

The SAFF Championship underway. Kuwait and Lebanon invited as guest teams.
Kuwait 3 Nepal 1
India 4 Pakistan 0

Here you can see Erich Ribbeck, the most unsuccessful soccer trainer of the German National team of all times. The current trainer of the German soccer National team, Hans Flick at present is the second most unsuccessful soccer trainer of the German National team of all time - and if he can continue, he has a good chance to become the new most unsuccessful soccer trainer of the German National team in the future.

I knew that there had to be some good news this week.

Just barely. With Courtois, Militao and Vinicius out injured and no world-class striker in the squad, Real's dependency on Bellingham won't be good in the long run.
What Real lack is a good capable goalscorer. Joselu is keen and willing, but he has not the technical ability of a striker Real Madrid are accustomed to. Rodrygo seems to be low on confidence, misfiring terribly against Getafe. Bellingham is the one popping up with the killing blows, but only so long as he remains fit and in form.
