WTH Scotland beat Espaiñ!!one

Also, Argentina beat Panama to win its first match since a Tuesday afternoon against Croatia in a stadium that doesn't exist anymore. Tonight they shall attempt to make it 2 out of 2.

Mmkay, jokes aside, Argentina playing here a couple of games means a lot in terms of social value. Unlike other times, Argentina's national (male) football team is both a respected institution (the FA itself isn't) and a successful one. And it's getting the chance to prove itself and to build some social cohesion in this country. The World Cup win was a strange thing in that it showed people something to unite behind.
Weird, innit?

(Sidenote: GEORGIA? Are you kidding me?)

I… notice that a certain @Henri Christophe is not cheering for ‘Moroccos’ anymore.

Oh hey, there's a new match-fixing scandal in Brazil.

Also, it turns out that the under-20 men's World Cup has been reassigned to be hosted here in Argentina next month. :faint:

It's on! A sad, completely avoidable death.

Eight healthcare professionals to stand trial in Diego Maradona’s death

  • Maradona’s medical team on trial in former great’s death
  • Legendary footballer died in November 2020 at age of 60
Spoiler :
Eight healthcare professionals will stand trial over the death of football great Diego Maradona in 2020, an Argentinian court has ruled.
The date of the proceedings has yet to be set, but they are unlikely to begin before next year, the court said Tuesday.

A medical board’s report previously given to prosecutors concluded that Maradona was in agony for more than 12 hours, did not receive adequate treatment and could still be alive if he had been properly hospitalized.
Three judges from an appeals court in San Isidro, outside Buenos Aires, confirmed the charges brought by prosecutors of homicide by negligence against the members of Maradona’s medical team.
Neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov are accused of failing in their care for Maradona. Maradona’s medical team also included psychologist Carlos Díaz, doctors Nancy Forlini and Pedro Di Spagna, nursing coordinator Mariano Perroni and nurses Ricardo Almirón and Dahiana Madrid.
Maradona, who won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986, died of a heart attack on 25 November 2020, at a rented residence outside Buenos Aires following brain surgery two weeks earlier. He was 60.
Maradona’s autopsy showed he died of natural causes.
One of Maradona’s daughters, Dalma, wrote on Instagram in Spanish: “Many times the process is painful and slow, but here we are and we will not stop until justice is done! Each one who stopped doing their job (at someone’s request or because of ineffectiveness) will be judged for that!”

Hmph. Paris Saint-Germain has decided not to renew Lionel Messi's contract.

Given how Ronaldinho moved to PSG and won the World Cup, Mbappé signed for PSG and won the World Cup, and then Messi and Di María signed for PSG and (guess what?) won the World Cup, I think that PSG is trying to jinx Argentina at football. *theatrical sigh*

Aaah, news surfaces that Ole Gunnar Solskjær offered Manchester United the chance to sign up his fellow Snorwegian Erling Haaland for 5 million dollars in 2018. (spoiler alert: they passed on it)

:lmao:

The English league title race has become quite boring. City set out to price everybody out of the market over a decade ago and they've managed it. Sportswashing for everyone!

Speaking of which, the four semifinalists in the Champions League are just disgusting. Play as well as their teams might, the clubs are still a festering sore and an example of all that's killing football.

So City wins even though they did not play today. Gooners imploded once more.
It was wonderful while it lasted. And I think this was a young team with many players competing for their first-ever league title, and so they would not be used to the pressure of keeping up momentum in the last few matches. Hopefully they can take this experience to come back even better next time.

I was really hoping Arsenal wouldn't choke this time around. Sad to see City take it. Nonetheless I'm still impressed. Nobody was expecting this from Arsenal.

Also nice to see Liverpool eventually get their act together. Bumping out ManUtd for a CL place would have been so nice but EL it is. Too many bad games overall.

So that's my Leeds about dead :(
It seems that the only way to get a League title these days is to win the second division one, which, funnily enough, is called ‘League Championship’. :crazyeye:
But don't forget that you're counting upon Everton to win a league match, so your title aspirations for 2023-24 might be postponed.

That's oddly specific...

I stopped following Bundesliga some years ago (bar Haaland's time at Dortmund when it seemed the league would be a tad more competitive) and was pleasantly surprised to find BvB may finally break Bayern's 10-championship streak. Have they a standout player this season, or is the team as a collective just gelling well? I don't think that, besides Bellingham (and possibly Marco Reus), they have any world-class players in their squad this season.

Bayern sabotaged themselved by firing Nagelsmann when things were going smoothly (in the few weeks after that they were eliminated from the cup and the champion's league while losing enough games to become 2nd in the league). Dortmund's got some good players overall, with Bellingham being the most promising. Haller coming back from his cancer treatment also helps.
