I don't have a big problem with them but do most people agree the biggest problem about them is that your units disappear? I propose that in the expansion pack they alter it so that all your units go to the nearest place out of the enemies territory. Would this make it less annoying to you guys? That really is my only problem with it.:D

slighlty less but in RL resistance fighters arnt going to pick the most heavily guarded city toflip in are they

The problem is that you could simply take it back the next turn easily, and that would ruin the point of culture-flipping... slowing down agressive advances, especially near the enemy capital. 'Partisan'-like units while also expelling would be a much better way of doing it... I wish Firaxis had carried that part of Civ 2 over.

You wont be able to take back that city next turn, because your units are send into you capital city or forbiden palace, i like the idea.

IMO, culture flipping is a nice part of the game, adds another challenge to deal with, but disappearing units can be fixed either:

1) They go to nearest city (but you can retake it then)
2) They go to your capital (but too far sometimes)
3) They go just outside enemy territory, but partisans are re-introduced
4) Also possibly add an option to quell the rebels, keep the city to yourself, but at the expense of some units killed AND unhappiness in your other cities.

The fourth option is a decent one -

The assumption behind the culture flip is that these citizens want to throw of the national yoke of Civ A and join Civ B. In order for that to happen they must overcome the local controls (read units) in the city.

I'd like to see the city devolve 1 city size and spawn a regular ground unit controlled by Civ B. But your variation is basically the same but skipping the combat portion of the program. It may be more beneficial to Civ B to have the option of not just blindly attacking, but taking the unit to nearby hills to pillage, harass, or simply await their chance to exact revenge.

This would mean you'd have to deal with a REAL resistance, which IS historical and utterly sensical. Rather than having Paris flip to the Allies, the resistance made it harder for the Germans to operate, tied down troops dealing with them, sabotaged rear areas, etc. All is PERFECTLY simulated by devolving the city 1 size and creating the regular ground unit (can be a new 'partisan' unit, or simply the basic ground unit of the era).

I think we should take Culture Flipping Topics and stab them to death. They are taking over this forum.

Sorry, got banned for being a big meanie on that outhouse Apolyton, gonna have to bring my special brand of friendly banter over here...

Culture flipping is so hot a topic because it's one of the few areas that Firaxis has REFUSED to give us, the players, any ability to modify or control. Think the combat system is flawed? I do, so I changed it, and don't ***** too much about it anymore (besides minor bugs like the 8 space air range bug).

But Culture flipping? No control. A simply SLIDER to influence it's prevalence? Nope. An on/off button? Nope. Why? I can change nearly EVERYTHING else about the game. But not this. Not very smart...
